Direcris sits down, facing the direction the other party will travel from. He keeps his dagger in his hand, cracking the fingers of his other hand before settling to wait.
Gavyn and Uri find cover along the mountain a a few yards up the road, the rest set up camp and wait for the travelers. Within a couple minutes, everyone can see their forms emerge from the fog. They get about fifty feet away from the party before they stop. The bald man calls out in a gruff, deep voice. "Who dares use our road?!" He pulls a greataxe off his back, "Are you here to pay tribute, or for me blade?!"
"We shall of course leave the discourse to you, Gadston." Direcris thinks to him, his gaze toward the party almost bored. The dagger returns to twirling over his fingers. The other hand rests on his leg, near his pouch.
Gadston stands and does a slight bow to the oncoming party.
"I am Sir Gadston." he says "I was advised this was a free road and there would be no reason to concern myself with tolls, bandits or threats. May I know who I am addressing?" he asks.
In his hiding place, Uri smiles to himself and clenches his hairy knuckles. This is sport for him - but it wouldn't do to underestimate the enemy, they may wield magic too. One-armed staff man is going to go down fast and hard.
Dench is interested in the distance between members of the group approaching them. He's looking especially for individuals within a twenty foot sphere.
He's watching them, but tries to look interested. Not hostile.
"Ooo 'Sir' Gadston." The bald man turns to give a mocking bow to his companions "Well I'm Duke Wild Fang, and since that makes you my vassal, I'm tellin' you this road ain't free and I'm here to collect my tax." He begins to draw closer. "So, what ya got for your Duke?"
At this point Wild Fang, bear woman and the first wolf are about 25 feet away, while the rest remain at 50 feet.
"Well, he is a disappointment. Hope he fights better than that. Who wants first chance?" Direcris sends to all of them as he stands up. His hand brushes his leg, a smile on his face as he speaks the spell. The slight shimmer of Mage Armor spreads over him.
Gadston frowns. Seeing the intent of this group approaching him is nothing but ill he will shake his head. "Well Duke Wild Fang" Gadston says "I have this sword which i will give you point first and I have this bow that will fire arrows to harm all who want to harm me."
Gadston casts Magic Missile at 4th level. (6 missiles)
Cast: Gadston looks like he pulls an imaginary bow back and fires. 6 arrows of light race out and strike Wild Fang.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
At the point where Gadston utters the words "I have this sword...", Uri makes a beeline for the one-armed bandit. His long arms flail like deadly clubs, intent on beating the man to a bloody pulp before he can utter any words of magic.
Assuming this is feasible. Uri has 50' move and 10' reach. And I couldn't resist the one-armed bandit gag, sorry!
Multiattack: 17 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll., 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. Flurry of blows: 15 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll., 28 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. Surprise attack (racial, assuming at least one of the previous attacks hit): 10
(Don't know what went wrong there, but I also used +9 instead of +10 as the modifier) To hit rolls: 22, 17, 12, 28 Damage rolls: 10, 10, 10, 7 (+4 for Surprise Attack).
Gadston's magic 'arrows' and Gavyn's barrage of covert arrows make quick work of the arrogant Wild Fang, who falls dead with the last shot. Similarly, Buxton sprints along the mountain face and takes out the one-armed bandit with a hail of bugbear fists.
CHA Save v Bane: Bear Woman: 11 Front Wolf: 3 Back Wolf: 9
CON Save v Negative Energy Flood: Back Wolf: 9 (If Bane'd -3)
The front wolf moves forward and unleashes a blast of freezing wind from its mouth at the group in the 'camp'. (Dench, Direcris, and Gadston make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. Take 24 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.)
The bear woman rushes forward in fury to attack Gadston recklessly. (Greataxe v Gadston, 12 to hit, 5 slashing damage, attacks against her have advantage this turn)
The wolf and the mud woman in the back attempt to avenge the one-armed bandit. The wolf tries to bite the monk. (Bite v Uri, 22 to hit, 15 piercing damage, on a hit Uri must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.)
The mud woman positions herself so Uri is between her and the drop into the river before she raises her had and shouts an arcane word, casting thunderwave. (Uri must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, he takes 9 thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away into the ravine. On a successful save, he takes half as much damage and isn't pushed.)

Gavyn will ready an action to send an arrow at the greataxe guy if he gets violent.

Dench will cast Bane on Wild Fang, bear woman, and the first wolf. It's a Char DC16 Save.
Death on the Water and Baldur's Gate Bodyguard
Direcris will cast Negative Energy Flood at the wolf at the back. It's a CON 16 save. On a fail it will get 31 necrotic damage and half on a success.
Gadston's magic 'arrows' and Gavyn's barrage of covert arrows make quick work of the arrogant Wild Fang, who falls dead with the last shot. Similarly, Buxton sprints along the mountain face and takes out the one-armed bandit with a hail of bugbear fists.
