The door to Molo's left appears normal, but the one ahead of him has a wooden bar across it, held in brackets on the frame and the door itself. The word “DANGER” is scrawled on that door in the Common tongue using chalk.
Lucky takes a breath, slow and steadying. What is happening to me? I'm becoming a front line fighter? I'm no Frost Barbarian. What am I doing? This group needs a hefty warrior in armour to take the hits, not me. He pauses whilst he lets his heart rate steady, taking long, slow and deep breaths.
Once calm he takes out his glasses and pops them on his head once more. He hunkers down next to each footlocker in turn, and checks them carefully over for traps or other nastiness.
Assuming he finds none he will then slide his hand into the folds of his old, deep-hooded cloak and from one of the hidden pockets pull out a worn leather pouch. Opening it carefully he selects the right tool for the job and begins to pick and pry at the padlocks.
Thieves' Tools: 10 (+7 with expertise). Thieves' Tools: 27 (+7 with expertise). (This re-roll is in case his glasses give him Advantage on picking locks?)
Lucky examines every footlocker, and determines that they have neither traps nor surprises, at least on the exteriors. He is unable to pick the stubborn locks, however - while primitive, they are quite effective. (The glasses give advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks that rely on sight; not picking locks, alas, which is a dexterity check.) You'll need a key or a crowbar or some other way to get them open.
Molo tries to peer through the frame of the "Danger" door but sees nothing - the door is well-sealed.
Fianna is less patient. She quickly rummages her meager gear and pulls out a crowbar. In truth she’s only kept the thing as an emergency bludgeon she hoped never need use... but she supposes using it for its intended purpose is good too.
As best she can, Fianna will jam the crowbar into the crack of a footlocker and apply all her weight to it. She’s not worried about damaging the footlocker, kind of assuming instead busting that is probably easier than busting the lock.
((kind of guessing strength check? 10 but if prying doesn’t work she can always just go smash smashing...))
Lucky manages to find three keys among the two corpses and one prisoner, and manages to match them up with three lockers. In the meantime, Fianna attempts to pry open the remaining seven, but she's unable to quite manage it. (Somebody stronger can have a turn, or Fianna can start whacking 'em with her staff or other weapon.)
The three Lucky open contain mostly dirty laundry, plus a few personal effects and curios, but also some coin purses. Combined, the three yield 21 gold pieces and 45 silver, but little else of value or use.
The old man begins to groan. The house is quiet. The sounds of the storm are muffled by the thick floorboards above you.
Fianna tries to smash open the remaining lockers, becomes frustrated, and then ties up the semiconscious old man with a length of rope she pulls out of her pack.
The old man is slowly coming to, still bleeding from a mace across his scalp.
Kelnan kneels down in front of the old man and pulls open his ruined bloody shirt revealing fresh pink flesh underneath.
"Well, one of you killed me. Or at least I think that's what happened, the details are a little fuzzy. But since this house seems less haunted and more... infested, maybe you can tell us what we'll find past that door." He points to the door with the ominous warning.
"Ye' don' wanna open that door, trus' me," says the old man, seemingly coming more to his senses. He adds, quietly, "Gimme one-hundred gold and lemme go. I'll tell ya' lotsa things." He looks around, nervously.
Fianna will use her Fey Presence trait ((DC 13) or become charmed)) and tell the old guy "We don't have a hundred gold between us... But please mister? You help us and I promise we'll take care of you!"
After Fiana’s charm (whether or not it works) Molo will scurry a long the ground on all fours towards the old man and climb onto his chest. “You are our prisoner. And if you’d ever wish to see another day of living, you will cooperate with our demands.”
Lucky will go and check out the barred door, checking it over for any traps or surprises, with the aid of his glasses. He will also peer through and see if he can see anything through the cracks.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
You feel an otherworldly presence in the room, as Fianna invites the beguiling presence of her fey patron in to influence the old man tied up before you. (Wisdom Save:14 )
He resists the hair-raising presence, as he does the kobold standing on his chest. (OOC: Moot point, but tough rules call; I think, RAW, only Fianna would have an Intimidation advantage had he been charmed.)
"I see ye' jus' robbed me, so ye' got some money," he growls, looking pointedly at the open lockers. "Talk t' the boss if ye' don' wan' t' work with me. I jus' row boats."
He coughs heavily. "Ye' got anything to drink with ye'?"
Meanwhile, Lucky examines the door with the sign on it. The bar across it is damaged and bent, as if something has tried to push the door open from the other side. But there are no apparent traps, nor any cracks to see through.

Molo tries to peek through the cracks where the door meets the frame to see what’s inside.

The old man is slowly coming to, still bleeding from a mace across his scalp.
"What? Whas'goin'on?" he slurs.
"That's a good question," Fianna answers... "What is going on?"
Raising her voice a level, Fianna calls out to the others "Hey, why aren't we killing this guy who tried to kill us?"
The old man strains against his bonds - Strength check: 3 - still clearly dazed and confused.
The ropes hold. "Who're you guys? What happened t' me?" He wipes blood out of his eye with the back of his hand and looks at it in confusion.
Next he takes in his two comrades, dead on the floor. "Gods! What happened?"
((OOC: When you forget that you need to roll medicine checks to stabilize enemies... oops too late now))
"You attacked us," Katernin says, "we were investigating a haunting here."
