There is another inn, the Wicker Goat. It caters to guards and loyalists and dwarven miners, mostly. No more expensive, but much less fishy, and more dwarf-friendly.
Mafera has a long list of jobs for Dain. She also has a gift: 14 gold pieces for the kite shield he forged.
Dain is definitely going to move to the Wicker Goat. There he will upgrade (if possible) to a 2gp per day "Comfortable" living standard. He will also start talking to the dwarven patrons there and see if there are any blacksmithing commisions he can earn.

Dain finds that the Wicker Goat is a very old tavern and inn, an ancient but well-kept structure cobbled together carefully over the centuries. It's owned and operated by a human man named Lankus Kurrid, although it's currently being run by a pimple-faced teen boy. It's clear this place caters to dwarven miners, town guard, and travelers. A tavern is downstairs, rooms to let upstairs. There's one available for Dain. There's a small day crowd here, drinking and complaining.
"It's been a little too long since an aberration has come this way," continues Kastilar, petting his bullfrog absentmindedly. "I expect it's imminent. I can smell it."
Sounds like just Dain's sort of place. He is very happy to get the smell of fish out of his nostrils and in-fact will buy a new set of clothes and burn his old ones. They smell of death and fish and are covered with blood, guts and other worse things.
Dain will keep his ear open to the complaints of the locals, listening to discover anything he thinks he (and maybe his newfound friends) can help with. He will build up friendships with any regular dwarves here, perhaps reacquainting himself with some of the miners he knows. He will tell all the dwarves about the newly refurbished shrine of Moradin and will tout his business as a smith, looking for a big commission.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gorilla peels a manic kobold off his neck, only to get walloped by a thunderous blast.
Saves: Gorilla: 6 Mustache: 11 Barkeep: 19 Three members of the crowd: 11, 14, and 17
Half the bottles shatter behind the bar, the windows blow out, lanterns shatter spraying flaming oil, and shrapnel flies into the harbor. It's a mess.
Mustache and the three nearby drunks are knocked unconscious. Gorilla and the bartender are still standing (the bartender dove nimbly behind the bar; Gorilla is just pure muscle.)
Gorilla howls with rage, grabs a mace from under a table, and lunges at Molo. Mace attack: 13 Bludgeoning damage: 4
Molo is struck in the chest and receives a painful wound. Molo may act next. (Down to 2 hp?)
The barkeep shrieks and swears a blue streak as he runs around trying to douse the flames rippling across the floor. Drunken patrons shout and scramble, trying to escape the shattered tavern in a chaotic pandemonium; the fight has lost its entertainment value.
Molo's scimitar chops a neat hole in the thug's leather jacket and the slab of meat behind it, but the guy barely registers it. He utters a bitter laugh and spits, then lets fly his mace at the wounded kobold:
"Doom. Doom is coming to Saltmarsh," groans Kastilar. "When the time comes we can't keep it at bay, I reckon I'll go hide in the Marshes. I expect I wouldn't last too long."
A boom of distant thunder rolls through the grove of stunted trees. Kastilar looks up; his bullfrog hops away into the hole under the boulder. "Dunno what that was. You got anything to eat?" he asks, hopefully.
Fianna wanders down the hill from Hoolwatch Tower, looking to kill a couple of hours until sunset (when she has been told to report to Commander Clay.) Suddenly, an explosion echoes across the town. Fianna sees a faint cloud of dust rising from the harbor at the source of the noise.
Across town, Dain shrugs off the noise amongst the cacophony of the Dwarven Forge, where he patiently waits his turn to use the facility.
Kelnan sees the source of the noise clearly from his room where he studies at the inn - it's diagonally across the harbor, in a ramshackle building built over the cold, grey waters.
Fianna will run towards the cloud of dust. Not recklessly, just trying to get there quickly. FinFin takes wing and heads off to the scene as well, likely to get there in at least half the time and be able to report back to her what is going on from a birds eye (pseudo-dragon's eye?) view.
Kelnan spies a flurry of activity through his window, at the distant building across the grey harbor, the source of the blast of thunder. Figures run in and out onto the porch, which rests haphazardly on pilings over the water. They carry and throw large bundles; some of the figures stagger and appear in distress. Thin grey smoke begins to disgorge from the windows.
Finfin sees a similar scene from above. Bodies are being pulled out and onto the street. Other stagger about aimlessly. Humans are running buckets of water in from a well.
Kelnan tries to discern what has caused the interruption. A fire or explosion of some sort? He leaves his work behind, gathers his magical implements, and hurries to the scene.
Fianna will continue heading there, not sure how long that will take.
FinFin will swoop and dive and dodge to get a closer look... it’s a building that exploded? Any indication it was attacked from outside? Like I’d there a nearby ship with smoking canons, a wizard walking innocently away, or a pyromaniac bugbear about with singed fur?
Not much to do done til in area except for having FinFin get as much detail as possible.

8. Slashing damage: 3
The blade connects, leaving a bleeding wound on Molo's back.
Gorilla tries again to break Molo's grapple. Strength check: 9 (Molo should make a contesting Athletics check to hang on.)
The crowd roars with approval.
"Hey! Cut it out!" shouts the wiry barkeep, although it's unclear how earnest he is.
Molo may act (after his Athletics check. Forgot the bane, sorry: Subtract 2 from Gorilla's strength check to contest.)
