(Akra takes a mighty swing with her Greatsword and just cleaves the hell out of the Giant Boar, basically slicing it in half, longways! :O A Surgeon could not have done a cleaner cut.
The last Boar thrashes wildly and takes a shot at Dartor!
Attack: 15 Damage: 5
(The Dwarf's Armor and Shield hold up well under the Boar's ferocious attack.)
DMs note: And, right on queue, Nordan rolls a Critical Fail.
So, when you do that, something bad happens, usually up to the DMs discretion. Here goes. :)
(Weakened by the loss of blood, Nordan is not his usual, nimble self, and makes a mess of his attempt to shoot an arrow. The arrow goes wide by a mile, but, somehow, Nordan breaks the string of his bow in the process! Maybe he can fix it later, but for now his bow is out of commission.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Blade, seeing the bad luck the others are having, decides to take no chances with the boar. With a flick of his wrist, he casts magic missile with all three missiles going directly at the one remaining boar
DMs note: Blade, please remember to roll a d20 any time you cast a spell. (Not a Cantrip) Go ahead and do so and I'll work it in if you roll a 1.
(Blade's Magic Missiles hit the Wild Boar and finish the job. You all are left standing, except for Velexa, who is unconscious. Before you all can do much of anything, Velexa's body begins to glow, starts turning transparent, then disappears as if by some sort of Magic. You stand there mesmerized, unable to believe your eyes. In front of you all you now see the bodies of the wild beasts that attacked you.)
Dartor goes and retrieves his handaxe that he threw earlier, pulling it out of the truck with one half effort tug, "I couldn't hit a boar, but a tree... well at least it never saw it coming". he turns to the others, " 'Tis a shame about Velexa, but we have to push on, she would've wanted us to save Bess".
Akra cuts the tusks of the boars out and takes them, thinking that they may be valuable. She mumbles a short prayer for Velexa, then nods to Dartor. "That sounds good. How about we take a short rest then carry on?"
DMs note: I'll give Blade and Nordan a little bit extra time to respond. Since this is for learning purposes, I'll just let you know I'm suggesting you take a long rest and why.
SInce you didn't have a Ranger in your party, your tracking took longer than normal and it is now late. Moving forward in the dark would be slow, dangerous, and unrealistic as you'd all need time to heal your wounds and rest from traveling all day, as well as eat a meal and get sleep. Make camp, take a long rest, and the journey will continue in the morning.
DMs note: Blade, please remember to roll a d20 any time you cast a spell. (Not a Cantrip) Go ahead and do so and I'll work it in if you roll a 1.
Roll : 12
(Sorry about that. I'll make sure to remember to do this in future)
Blade is definitely fatigued from burning up his spells. He says to the rest, "I wouldn't mind catching a nice rest, if you are all okay with that? I think the party is injured and tired and could do with it?"
While saying that, he stumbles over to where Velexa lay and investigates the area, specifically if there is any signs of the magic that made her body disappear
Investigation : 18
(I wasn't sure if it was an investigation or arcana check, but both are +1)
Dartor nods in agreement with the others, " Aye, with some food in our bellies and a good long rest, we'll be readier than ever to bring Bess home. I can only hope she makes it through the night".
(Thinking quickly, Blade aims his finger at one of the Boars as the fire burns the Boar to a crisp! Its blackened remains smolder as the group is finally able to settle down from the excitement.)
DMs note: In the interest of moving the plot along, I'll just be assuming you all settle in for the night and rest. Also, Nordan, I've made a small adjustment to your character for story purposes. Hope you don't mind. :)
(You all cut up some of the other Boar and have a nice meal over a fire, resting and talking about the battle you all just had. You all make camp for the night, taking turns on watch to make sure nothing sneaks up on you all. Nothing bad happens. You awaken, refreshed, and ready to continue.
You pick up the trail again and walk further into the woods. Around 11am or so, you reach a clearing. You slow down and see this:
(About 100 feet ahead, you see 2 goblins guarding a stone entrance. The goblin on the right looks like a serious little fellow, an intense look on his face as his eyes periodically scan the perimeter on the south side.
The goblin on the left, however, does not seem to be taking his assignment too seriously. He seems to be amusing himself with a dirty goblin magazine, hooting and hollering as he unfolds the centerfold and tries to show it to his more serious compatriot, who is visibly annoyed at his antics.
The two guard goblins start having an animated discussion... in Goblin. )
Spoilers for Nordan (the only one here who knows Goblin):
"Check out the *unclear* on her! Huh? Buddy?"
"Knock it off, Krang! We're supposed to be keeping watch while the boss does his ritual."
(Krang looks like he doesn't give a shit.)
"Dude, you're such a goody two shoes! We've been here for 3 days and haven't seen one single person! Nobody comes here!"
"It doesn't matter. Something happens and the boss will tear into both of us. So do your job."
(mimicking) "So do your job..."
(The rest of you all hear gibberish, but the serious one seems to be angry at the lazy one.)
"What the hell is taking so long, anyways?"
"It'll take as long as it takes. Boss said it might take as long as 24 hours, and they just got started last night."
"Then the kid gets it, right?"
"Yup. Needs to 'spill the blood of the innocent' to make the place all holy for the Goblin God."
"Well, that'll be fun, at least."
(The tension between the two goblins seems to be eased. The serious one almost cracks a smile. The lazy goblin goes back to his post, sits on a stump, gives a quick glance to the area he's supposed to be patrolling, then goes back to his magazine.)
DM's note: Ok, so, just so you're all aware of the situation, you're all about 100 feet away from the guard goblins. If you try to shoot them with arrows from where you are you would have disadvantage if you have a shortbow but if you have a longbow it's a normal roll. If you make it to the forest cover to the north you'd be about 60 feet away from the lazy one and about 80 ft away from the serious one. Also, if you want your damage to be non-lethal please let me know when you roll.
Akra pulls out her greatsword, swinging it with both hands against the giant boar. Attack: 7 Damage: 10
She then disengages and moves 20 ft back.

Well those were both terrible rolls, but I think I now roll for a wild magic surge effect?

27

Blade, roll a ranged spell attack, damage is a d10, and tell me what or who you aim it at.

I guess Blade aims it at one of the boars, to have a nice roast meal. If that works mechanically?
