Seeing the creature practically disolve in his hand, Vigil is looks puzzled at first. Then, he realizes that this provided a very valuable information about these things. He needed to share this discovery with the others. So he began to make his way to the Blue Cask inn, hoping Zack wasn't to far behind.
(to clarify, you still have the sack of meat, but whatever was giving it "form" aside from the torso and talon has faded/relaxed/whatever. You still do have the body.)

Kalgren stifled a yawn. The day had been long and with the adrenaline rush ebbing away, the onset of sleep began to rear its head.
'You might want to conceal that.' He pointed at the limp bag of remains Vigil was holding. 'I know what it is and I'm still offended by it.'
Back at the inn Kalgren bade goodnight to his comrades and retreated to his rented room. He was looking forward to some shuteye but he knew there was something that needed to be done first. Kalgren removed the eyepatch covering his left eye. Where an eye used to be, a yellow topaz sat in the eye socket. There were burn scars around it, small jagged red lines that made the topaz the centre of Kalgren's own personal little sun. He grimaced a bit as he climbed into bed: he might as wel get comfortabel for this.
'Kalystra.'Kalgren muttered with one eye closed and two fingers touching the topaz. 'I've arrived in Drefeld to investigate the missing people case. Turns out we're not the only ones interested in this conundrum as there are three other individuals with the same idea. I'll keep an eye on them for now.' He snickered a bit at his own joke. 'Anyway, it seems some sort of creature is responsible for the disappearances. Serpentine body, hard beak, single talon, no discernible eyes and can open its mouth wide enough to swallow a grown man whole.' He formed a mental image of the creature in his mind's eye. He did not know if the visual was something that could be transferred but it never hurt to try. 'They hunt in packs, are able to burrow through the ground with ease and can pass through small cracks. There also seems to be a variant: bigger and bulkier with more muscle and what seems organic armour.' A second mental image replaced the first, this one of the larger specimen. 'If there is anything that can give me an edge on this critters, let me know. Much obliged.'
Kalgren stared at the ceiling. A pregnant pause filled the room. He touched the topaz again. 'So how are you?'
Back at the inn, Zack sits down in his room and casts Comprehend Languages and begins reading the books he received on the town's history for the next hour. He then retires for the night, thinking over what he just read.
After Vigil returned to the inn, he briefly catched up with the others before retiring to his room. He kept what remains he could carry from the beast in a bag. Once this whole affair was done with, he woud need to bring this story to the attention of his superiors.
To his own surprise, he found himself enjoying the company of these strangers. The tiefling usually liked to work alone better. Maybe it was the change of pace, or maybe their antics amused him. One thing was for sure, this whole investigation was getting interesting.
There was still much to discover. But for now, the tiefling needed to rest up.

Your patron does not respond... Not due to a lack of care, but due to a lack of answers. You get this feeling, and it is unsettling... How would a celestial not have an answer in regards to such creatures?
Back at the inn, Zack sits down in his room and casts Comprehend Languages and begins reading the books he received on the town's history for the next hour. He then retires for the night, thinking over what he just read.
Much of the history of the town is dedicated to the history of the Goliaths of the mountains around. Humans and halflings came to the island and, in a heartwarming twist, allied with the goliaths and all three races agreed to found the town together. There is more, but having only spent an hour on the studies, it will be for another time.
The night went uneventfully, and come the morning, the inn was abuzz with the story of the fight! Folks happily talking amongst themselves how the party were heroes and will save them from this threat!

Zack rises early and heads from his room to get a morning meal. He keeps to himself, nodding in thanks to the townsfolk as they congratulate and thank him for the evening's fight. He finds a quiet corner to sit and eat, hopefully in peace, but awkwardly amongst the morning folk.
Slow to rise from bed, Vigil woke up later than the others and took his time to put on his armor and prepare his gear. There was more investigating to be had and Vigil needed to be ready for anything. Seeing Zack sitting in a corner, he went to sit at the same table and ordered a meal for breakfast.
‘’Morning to you.’’ he saluted. ‘’Got any leads from that book of yours?’’
OOC: well, I wasn't hoping on any immediate information, just that she would pass it along to the church. Also, no small talk? Keeping it professional, I see.
Kalgren woke up from an uneventful sleep. It was rather nice waking up naturally without someone waking him up at the mandatory time. A good stretch and a splash of water later and he was as good as awake. Kalgren made sure his eyepatch was back in place, as well as any of his equipment, before making his way to the common room. He ignored most of the folk already occupying the inn but spared a smile for any of the ladies. Got to keep up appearances, he mused, secretly enjoying the positive attention, as he looked across the room. Spotting Zack and Vigil sitting in the corner, he walked over.
Kalgren waved any of the staff over to order some breakfast. 'Working this early in the morning?' He smirked at the two studying the book.
Zack nods a greeting to Vigil, "Unfortunately I didn't learn too much that would be helpful to our investigation. Just that initially the area was inhabited by goliaths and the settling humans and halflings allied with them to found the town."
"Well, it does seem that way," Zack says as he looks down at his plate and the remains of his breakfast, "But then again, perhaps we do have answers but we've yet to identify them? I agree though, hopefully the guard captain will have something. Though something keeps eating at me about last night... Did we predict the correct house, or were we just lucky? Did Kalgren's self inflicted mark draw them to him, or was it coincidence?"

Did Kalgren's self inflicted mark draw them to him, or was it coincidence?"
'They made the mark when they moved around so I don't believe it holds any significance.' Kalgren weighted in. 'I do hope I'm wrong because else I blemished my arm for nothing. They also went after Grell first but that could just be him being outside and me in the house.'
He reach for a piece of bread from Zack's plate while waiting for his own breakfast. 'Also a bit rude to just talk about someone when they're right next to you, don't you think?' He bit into the bread with a smirk. 'And a top of the morning to you too. So we're hitting the authorities today?'
(ooc: I have a day or so free before shooting off against, so will dip in! :P)
Grell walks into the inn, the front door swinging into the room more forcefully than he had intended. Seeing the others gathered the Dragonborn makes his way through the throng of locals, mostly ignoring their gestures and remarks. Without a word he pulls up a stool and slumps into it, he looked both refreshed and worn at the same time.
(ooc: I don’t want to say that Grell had no sleep and hence no recovery, just that he made sure to sample the towns delights ;) Though he may be a bit fuzzy of the exact details, I’ll leave it to DM to flesh out what may have happened, haha!)
Flagging a passing waitress, or was that the bartender? he wondered, Grell orders some simple bread and a large flaggon of water.
”So... what do you all feel today’s plans are...?” he says as he looks around the table.
"As much as I don't like it, we probably should go see that captain." Vigil says with sigh. "Once that's done with we could pick up the trail in the forest. Any other suggestions?"
"Perhaps looking along the north-western side of town as well? They seem to be coming from that direction, if they are in fact coming from somewhere in town. It seems like the most logical place to start if we think someone in town may be responsible," Zack slides his plate over to Kalgren, having finished all he wanted to eat. "But maybe we should go talk to this captain, hopefully he can shed some light on that which we have missed."
'Sounds good.' Kalgren said in between chews. Having finished his breakfast and part of Zack's, he wiped his mouth clean, stood up and walked over to the counter to ask innkeeper Elandar for directions. And perhaps some juicy gossip if she was up for a little chit-chat.
Elandar smiles as Kalgren comes up. "Ah, you'll find the guard office over by the river, on our side here." She says. "Captain de Mowbray is a bit of a tool, though. Rumors are he doesn't even know how to use his either." The half-elf bartender would give a small snort at her little joke. "I imagine you all have found something big then, hm? A huge fight with some weird creatures nobody's ever seen?"

Vigil stood up after finishing his meal and paying for it. He stretched his back with a groan. "I'll be going to the guard's barracks now. If you still have things to do, you can meet me there."
He went back to his room with a bag containing the creature's remain before heading out of the inn.
Zack nods at Vigil, "I'll join you. I cannot think of anything else that holds more importance right now. I'm interested to see how this guard captain acts towards us coming into his town and effectively taking his job." Zack also stands, leaving coin on the table for his meal, and follows Vigil.
