You roam in front of the trading caravan, on the lookout for any kind of obstruction or hazard. Nothing seems to be blocking the path, but you begin to notice tracks criss-crossing near the road- footprints with three clawed toes, vaguely reptilian in nature. On a 15, you can tell they are probably from last night, or very early morning.
Mobile- While Tristan is examining the tracks running near and across the road, the wagon train begins to reach the farms and homesteads near the edges of the city. Where you might expect to see people outside enjoying the last of the autumn evening, the doors and shutters appear barred shut. Ahead on the road you see a patrol of maybe 20 mounted Righteous Brand soldiers cantering in your direction. The captain, a scarred half-orc raises her visor and shouts to you; “Better get inside before full dark! Theres things roaming around out there- we’ve had more than one merchant attacked.”
Sinsil will instinctually start sending minor Illusion copies of herself milling about. "What kind of things?" She has one of them ask before it returns to a wagon.
The captain starts slightly at the small gnome that appeared near her, but responds with a shrug- "Not really sure. According to the witnesses, they're big, humanoid, scaly, and they stink something awful." She begins to spur her horse back to the head of the mounted column and shouts back over her shoulder. "The guards have orders to bar the gates at sundown. No-one in or out until morning. If you don't want to be stuck outside all night, I'd make sure you were inside before then."
One of the last soldiers, a blue scaled Ravenite Dragonborn, lets out a barking laugh. "Naw, dey know Dragonborn, and dis ain't us. Somethin' different. More like animals" He pats his horse and continues in a low tone "If y'alls are lookin' for work, rumour is the Crown's Guard plannin' to offer a bounty on um. Y'all go see Cap'n Stane at the watch house, say as Villon sent ya."

"Likewise, muh fine tailed frien'. There's more an' more of us around all the time. If it takes yo' fancy, head south a ways to Talonstadt, my home town. Near to two thousand souls these days, mostly dragonkin like us. Though word to the wise, dey don't take kindly to dat old world crap there. We all just folks now." He gives you all a friendly grin, then realises his comrades are leaving him behind. "Shit! Like I said, names Villon. See ya in town mebbe. C'mon Hoss". He sets of at a gallop after the rest of the soldiers.
Villon turns in his saddle and waves, then continues catching up to his friends riding out into the dusk.
Your convoy begins the final ascent up to he slope to the city. The walls of smooth grey stone stand twenty feet high, set at the top with fearsome battlements and tall watchtowers. A spike-filled dry moat surrounds the walls, making you feel sorry for any fool stupid enough to try to attack it. The main gates are at the end of the road, guarded by Crown's Guard, while watchful archers observe from the battlements above. The gates are made of heavy oak timbers, reinforces with iron bands, and a heavy steel portcullis hangs ominously above, ready to be lowered at a moment's notice. More than many cities, this place was built for war.
Hargrim calls out gruffly to you all, "Well done you lot. Alright, let's get ready for the inspection." He begins producing pieces of official looking paper as the crowns guard approach to begin looking in and around the wagons.
The guards finish searching the wagons and begin questioning each of the people with the party, basically asking each of you for your name and reason for visiting Bladegarden. You get the impression that they are being a bit more attentive than guards usually are; something has got the authorities paying attention to everyone entering and leaving the city. You can all choose to answer the questions truthfully or untruthfully, as you prefer.

You think all is quiet on the road behind you, and the patrol of soldiers that passed will probably run into any beasts before they get to your comrades.
Tristan answers the questions truthfully, but in an extremely roundabout way, making it so that it takes ages to get anything out of him (I would say this is a specific situation...but this is pretty much how he interacts all the time- good natured, well spoken, and very private.)

Ashanti leapt up to the top of her wagon and boomed, " Hey! Everyone did you hear that? Drinks are on Brona!"
"Hope your 'bout to inherit a small barony, cause these boys are thirsty" Dexan winks at Brona.
