Broki turns in for the night, asking to be woken at dawn with whatever meats they have. Unfortunately she finds the bed far too soft so opts to move the sheets to the floor. The feeling of hardwood underneath is comforting and she rests through the night to waking to the sound of footsteps heading towards her door. She rises and opens it, startling the waiting staff who to their credit recover quickly and present her with a steaming pile of sausages, bacon and blood pudding. Her tongue flicks out licking the side of her beak subconciously before taking the food from the servant and saying "Thank you." She closes her door and tears into the hot meat, swallowing three fat juicy sausages whole. Her fast broken, she thinks to herself "Time to check this place out" and heads out of her room with her equipment making her way out into the garden.
Breathing deeply Broki moves into the shadows (Stealth : 18) and makes her way to the practice field where she smiles in delight "Time for some training"at the practice targets set up at 150 ft lets loose a volley of arrows (attack : 16). She glances up at the sky and notices the sun has risen further. "Well training was first, next to judge this good company."Broki heads back inside following the sounds of voices to the dining room where she nods at Kyrian and Athelynn before spying the short fellow, Ankin, from the night before and the loud dwarf, Barnabus, consuming enough food for a family of four... each. "I am pleased to see my some of my companions are up and about, this bodes well for us." Spying more sausages she gives into the urge and requests a plate as well taking a seat opposite and listening as Ankin questions the dwarf.
During his walks Kyrian has two encounters, the first a small group of people (staff members) enjoying the evening, having drinks and conversation outside of a quaint cottage with a lovely small garden. As he passes they raise tankards and wave hullo. and a bit later he spies a pair of "young giggling shadows" making their way to a pond, hand in hand, for a nights swim.
Pomenia rises early as usual, the sky only just beginning to lighten. For a second confusion clouds her mind as she looks around, expecting to see a row of beds and chests that furnished the chambers for temple inhabitants where she usually slept. As she rouses, the memory of the past night and week come back to her. Pushing back the covers she pulls on her tunic and cloak, forgoing donning on her armor.
He mentioned gardens, perhaps I could gather some herbs. They may prove useful for what lays ahead.
By the time she found her way to the gardens, the sun was just cresting over the horizon. As her hands ran over various fronds and leaves, she watched the sun rise, finding comfort in the warmth and closes her eyes against the bright light. Glancing down at the plants, she picks a few familiar stems and flowers and places them in a length of cloth, gently folds the fabric, and tucks them into a pocket in her tunic. As the sun continues rising she makes her way back to the house, moving towards the sounds of discussion and the aroma of a morning meal.
Around the second hour after noonday, you all find yourselves summoned to the main floor conference room..
As you all take your seats Sebastian enters, and greets everyone. “Well it seems your first mission is at hand. You all have been tasked with the recovery of a small artifact, a key, it’s said that this key can open any lock into which it is inserted. The key was stolen last night from the man entrusted with it’s care. The victim was severely beaten, but he did manage to see one of his assailants.”
Sebastian goes on. "one of the thieves was a huge orc or half-orc with a scar across the right side of his face.” Sebastian regards the group “It is imperative that the key is retrieved as quickly as possible. There are elements in the Free city government that would use this artifact for their own ends if they were aware of it, which is why you must all work quietly and without arousing the interest of the authorities or any other third parties.”
Sebastian looks down for a moment “Unfortunately your first mission has come a bit sooner than anticipated. We have not been able to secure the paperwork yet for each of you regarding the carrying of weapons in the city, those of you of non-noble birth will only be allowed to carry a dagger, cudgel or staff for protection. Those of you of proven noble birth may carry a rapier or short sword. And none nay wear metal armor within the city walls.” He looks at you all “And of course the standard restrictions against magic use apply within the city limits as well.”
Sebastian glances at the window. “Two coaches are being readied for your journey into the city. Any questions?”
"Well I guess rules is rules but I'm not liking having to give up me axe. I suppose a stout cudgel will have to do. Are ya sure I can't even bring me shield?" grumbles Barnabus already knowing the answer. "Where are we even gonna start? City probably has a boat load of orcs running around. Anyway you all ponder it, I'm gonna go take all this off. I'll meet you at the carts" With that the dwarf trudges off dejectedly to his room grumbling about how it's hard to do a proper job without the proper gear. Once in his room he slowly removes his armor and stacks it neatly next to the door. Finally he leans his axe beside it up against the wall. His fingers tremble as he pauses for a moment just inches from the leather wrapped highly polished handle. Suddenly his fingers snap shut in a tightly gripped fist. A fist that he swiftly raises to his lips to stop them from trembling. With a loud sniff and a huff Barnabus storms from the room and stalks down the hall to join the others at the carriages. With out a word to the others he collects his club and finds his place to ride.
"Scarface, eh, I know where to find him", remarks Ankin, relish almost dripping from his face. He has a personal score to settle there. "So what are we to do with these thieves", he spits out the last word, "if they don't hand over the key all friendly like?"
At the mention of Orcs or even their half breed relatives, Broki tenses up. "If daggers be the only thing I am allowed, then I shall enjoy using them to extract information from these Orcs"she removes her longbow and twin short swords, swapping them out for a pair of daggers."However I am new to this city, Ankin, you know of a place that this Orc scum might gather? If we can find some tracks, I can follow them back to hole he crawled out of."
Athelynn clears her throat. "Remind me about the laws of magic? and how long have the thieves had this key?"She taps her chin with her forefinger as she thinks. "Is anything known of the thieves. Any potential connections or aliases?"

Sebastian regards Ankin "obtain the key, see that no innocents are harmed, defend yourselves and as to the rest use your discretion."
Athelynn clears her throat. "Remind me about the laws of magic? and how long have the thieves had this key?"She taps her chin with her forefinger as she thinks. "Is anything known of the thieves. Any potential connections or aliases?"
Sebastian regards Athelynn "the laws of the Free city are complex regarding magic, but they distill down to no offensive magic. no enchantment spells and no magic used to read others minds. utility spells such as Mage hand or light may be used, judiciously." he glances at his notes "The key was stolen yesterday evening.and nothing is known of the perpetrators."
Kyrian is intrigued "and what makes you so infallible. will you not use the item?"
"Hopefully the same thing that will keep you from running off with it once it's in your possession." Sebastian responds to Kyrian, looking at him directly.

Jassan turns from Kyrian to Sebastian and waits intently for the answer. Afterwards she attempts to change the subject by asking, “What can you tell us of the man who was entrusted with this key? General information like his name, address, and occupation would be very helpful in tracking him down if we end up needing to talk to him. Plus anything you can tell us about the robbery itself, when, and where it happened would also be very useful. “
Once the briefing is over Jassan states that she’s going to grab a few things and that she’ll be down to the carriages shortly. She makes her way to the armory and selects two smallish daggers that will fit snugly into her boot sheaths. Then she heads up to her room, grabs her pack, cloak, quarterstaff, and then pauses. “Alright, what am I forgetting?” she asks herself. “Ah, yes. Better safe than sorry. You never know what unexpected surprises we might face before we even get to the city gates...” And with that, Jassan casts Mage Armor. Feeling about as prepared as she’s likely to get, Jassan heads down to the carriages and readies for their departure.
"We'll find Scarface at the Lucky Pike in the River district", explains Ankin. "He fancies himself as a heavy, built like a brick outhouse, and smells like one too. He's got a thing for the halfling girls I reckon, 'cos not long after my Daisy told him where he could stick his dirty wandering hands he took up with the bargirl at the Pike instead. Name of Lita. Deserves better'n him."

"Everything you need to know has been provided". Sebastian states. "I suggest you get started as soon as possible."
OOC: I might do a journal later. Right now I'm kinda too busy with my novels to keep a journal.
Athelynn returns to her room, dressing in her leather armor and go outside to one of the coaches. "I do believe my companion..."she takes a moment to remember his name. "Anakin...no that's not right. An...An...Ankin. That's it! I believe he has an idea of where to start."
(lol, yes I did that on purpose :P )

Barnabus pipes up from his seat in the coach, "I know when I lose something I always try to retrace my steps. Does anybody know where this theft happened? If not then Ankin seems to think we should look at the Lucky Pike and since I don't have a better idea I vote the pike. Anybody got any other ideas ? "
