As the days pass, you quickly fall into a routine. You depart early each morning, eating breakfast and lunch on the road. In the late afternoon, you stop and make camp, and the three merchants ferry supplies to whichever remote village is nearby. They enlist your help for a couple of the larger deliveries, but most nights you are left alone with the wagons.
It's the seventh night of your journey, and you've just finished setting up camp in a valley between some foothills. The grass has yellowed from the summer heat, and low bushes dot the area, though most seem a bit shriveled. "Right," Kira tells you once you've settled. "We should be passing through Oakhurst tomorrow morning. I think we can handle this last delivery on our own, so we'll see you in a few hours." With that, the three depart, taking the horses with them to help carry the supplies.
The sun is beginning to set, and you all sit around the fire enjoying your evening meal. You expect the merchants will return soon to join you.
Ondrej hurriedly takes a few last bites before setting down his plate and reaching for his greatsword. Standing and turning to face the source of the noise he calls out "Who's there? Come on, show yourself!" through a mouth full of food.
Startled by Ondrej's sudden announcement of a guest at our dinner, Arisys reaches down to rest a hand on her quarterstaff which is laying on the grass beside her seat. "Who is it?" She asks quietly not to the unknown intruder but moreso to her self.
Lar-Dun decides not to issue a command to the intruder to show himself, seeing as how two or three had already been thrown out. Instead he waits, prepared to use his power to protect himself if necessary, though hopefully it wouldn't be.

As you look closer at the bushes, you see that they themselves are what's moving. Branches are unfolding and roots ripping free of the ground to form four small humanoid figures made of twisted wood and leaves. Their faces are blank and featureless, and their limbs end in sharp claws. As soon as they're detangled from each other, they rush towards you, making no noise but clearly aggressive.
