Aimee, your magic seems to have no effect on this glue. (Arcana check?) Kerri’s sacred flame wafts over the rug, passing straight through it. (Kerri would be aware that her flames only effect creatures and pass harmlessly through objects.)
Edvord comes forward, noting the glue that Aimee is playing with. "Seems pretty stuck, though maybe we should stick to the sides in case it is concealing a pit or something in the middle How likely could this be another trap...? It is about time something was merely what it appeared to be?"
You climb up the stairs, avoiding stepping on the centre of the rug. You're still unsure if there's anything sinister about it, but you make it to the top alright. Following the hallway around and down some more steps you shuffle through a narrow hallway until it opens out into a grand room with a domed ceiling portraying wizards and warriors in fierce battle. A glittering gem sits atop a dais below the dome, with an ornately decorated longsword hovering in the air directly above it. Around the edge of the dais reads an inscription, "Power pulses within me, and only a living warmth may move me."
Edvord responds to the monk, "I am seeing an aura of transmutation magic being emanated from it. Would be a strange school of magic to utilize for a trap... I hesitate to say this, but should be safe. The gem on the other hand isn't magical... Seems odd that it would just be floating here waiting for someone to pick it up, there has to be more than meets the eye... even an arcanely enhanced eye."
On closer inspection, the gem seems to be worthless but a set of tiny iron gates are set inside it. Though the wizards in the paintings seem to be in some kind of battle, none of them seem to be using fire.
While the gem itself might not be worth anything as a precious rare stone, the set of tiny iron gates set inside make it far more interesting to Cico.
"Do you see those?" Cico says, pointing at the gates. "This could be another key of some sort."
He pulls a torch and tinderbox out of his pack, strikes the flint and ignites the oily head of the torch. Once the flames reach their peak he thrusts the torch up right next to the gem, heating it.
The flames flicker under the gem, licking at it and casting shadows of yourself behind you. You notice that there seems to be a smaller fainter shadow from each of you cast towards the northeast corner of the room, though there doesn't appear to be an obvious source of light. Lyss's shadow though.... doesn't appear to be there at all.
Cico looks from the gemstone to the shadows and then to Aimee and Lyss once he notices the absence of a shadow from Lyss. He nods to himself as if that makes perfect sense.
Then Cico lays the torch on the ground and looks over to Aldrik again.
"The living part of living warmth fits everything else we've seen in here," Cico says to Aldrik. "Grab hold of the sword and I'll grab the gem. On two. No on three."
Cico crouches by the pedestal, looks up at the sword and then flexes his hand three times, then bobs up and down three times.
Unless someone else intervenes with a better idea, Cico begins to count, grabbing the gem on three.
She takes a big step back and looks to Aldi and Eddie expectantly, with a smile, and gestures them forward to walk on said rug.
For once, Kerri steps forward. She looks at the rug with distrust, before snapping her fingers and calling down radiant light on the rug.

"Wanna bet? My money says trap!"
Cico shakes his head, looks up the staircase and then steps onto the first step.

Cico examines the dais and the gem, and then the longsword hovering in the air. He moves his hand around both, without touching either.

Then Cico looks back at Edvord.
"Have you seen anything like this before?" Cico asks. "Could grabbing the gem cause the sword to fall?"
Aldrik takes a moment as Cico speaks to Edvord. "Living warmth... hmm." Are any of the wizards shooting fireballs or anything, or summoning elementals?

Cico looks over to Aldrik and then nods at the sword.
"If you grab the hilt of the sword first, I will take the gem," Cico says.
"Before we go grabbing, maybe light a torch underneath the gem?" Aldrik asks. "Fire tends to have a life of its own."
(I dont have a torch.)
