Kiran accepts Ronegan's implied criticism quietly and frowns, thinking of the targeting of Opal rather than Onyx, "Could it be a case of bad information? They knew one of the twins had magic, and since the queen mother had magic they assumed it was the daughter?"
Petal has been unusually quiet since they arrived at the tavern. Upon sitting and being warned of potential tampering of the food, she nodded and has been quietly muttering a ritual to herself - detect poison and disease
Upon hearing the theory that the family was targeted because of magic abilities she looks to Ran, quietly croaking “You... don’t think that gnome could have been a royal do you?” She looks to the others to explain, “This gnome from house Turco... she tried to reach into our minds. You guys didn’t see any magic from any of the other houses that were attacked’s parties did you?”
"Not from the Dhkar or Caelano groups, though a pair of warriors of the church shut everything down very quickly, before things might have escalated to that point."
She looks at Elavor, and gives him a sly smirk. "Ellie here about toppled right over like a kicked pile of wood."
You sense the wasting sickness in yourself, King Onyx, Ronegan, and Elavor. Something however about Elavor you can see is...off. The wasting sickness seems heighten in him a dark aura around the wound you healed with your magic!
"My...my sister was targeted by them to what end is top priority over the other houses. I... I regret leaving her now that I realize I...should we return to the Royal apartments," he asks next looking quite unsure of himself. "It seems we're safe here to riddle out the mystery but I...we left her and my mother with only the high king's and the faithful guard. We have yet to ruled them out," he adds worrying his short beard. "Looking at Petal he adds, "I have never met the Turco heirs or heard rumours if they're gifted either..." He trails off looking around the room.
Kiran as it happens you most pointedly did not see chancellor Green anywhere in the cathedral which you find odd considering his relationship with King Malachite or since your arrival in the capitol.

Petal nods to the newly King Onyx “Of course, we understand, we all need to keep those we love safe, with what little time we have in the world. We should come with you? at least then we can be there to help if anything happens. ”
Elavor smirks at Varen "Well, yes, it was quite the abrupt encounter with those two. Took me quite off my guard..."
Speaking to the group as a whole he says: "Well, it seems we still aren't much closer to finding out who this Dark Wanderer is. I didn't come up with anything on who they might be either." Nodding to Onyx, he says "Your highness, I agree with Petal. I believe the safest place would, indeed, be back at the apartments. Perhaps the morning will shed new light on the mysteries we've uncovered so far... "
"We could keep you and your family safest back in Bhil Dvrahl," Ran says. "But the royal apartments will have to do for now."
He sets down his mug and pushes his plate of half eaten food away.
"I think we could spend all night discussing whether Opal was targeted because she doesn't possess magic, or it was a mistake, or there was some other reason. All we really know is someone, maybe in the palace, has an agenda of their own and the Firstforges may still be in danger. Perhaps the questioning tomorrow will shed some light on what the palace knows."
"At very least we got to discuss what we learned today away from the ears of the servants in the palace... Get everyone on the same page, and get an idea of what to look out for in the days to come."
She stands, grabbing her sword and shield from the wall behind where they were sat.
"Your Majesty, you might need to be prepared to smooth things over with the other Kings, until we can learn more. I don't imagine firey tempers are limited to just the Dhkar guardsmen... Guardsdragons?"
"The council is to mediate between the houses tomorrow over the attacks. The church has means for getting the truth of a thing," he adds his eyes flicking to Kiran. "We shall see what that meeting yields," Onyx replies frowning. "Well, I think if we are all ready now we should head back," he adds with a curt nod pushing up from the table onto his feet with a heavy sigh straighten the cloak over his robes.

Ronegan will stare at the food his companions are leaving behind, staring open mouthed at the amount of delicious morsels that are going to waste. When the subject turns to returning to the Royal Apartments, he shakes his head. "Some of the work I have to do is best done at night, my friends. I am not much use at the moment anyway, as the eyes all around us have limited my ability to aid you all in a more substantial way."
He looks to Onyx, bowing his head. "With your permission, your Majesty, I will not accompany the group back to the apartments. I will join you as soon as possible, of course, and if things go well, I may have information that may be useful to us and our purposes."
"I just ask you don't go alone Ronegan. We...truly all should be on our guard," Onyx replies. Onyx then looks at the party. "Who among you are capable of some clandestine work," he asks the party as a whole but looks to Elavor almost pointedly before his eyes settle back on Ronegan.

"The only assistance I would be is if someone needed a distraction," answers Ran. "A loud, very hard to miss distraction."
He looks down at Ronegan then to Elavor.
"Do not take any unnecessary risks."
Then turning to King Onyx, "your majesty, when we leave here I suggest you let us walk on all sides of you, Varen in front, Kiran and Petal to either side, and I behind."
"I can accompany him... between Ran and Kiran you should be safe, your majesty, and I believe Petal wanted to talk with some of the servants back at the palace."
She looks to Ronegan. "If you'll have me, of course." She adjusts the folds of her hooded gray cloak, and the Firstforge symbol disappears behind the dark cloth.
Ronegan:
When you made your comment before, you noted that Varen's eyes snapped to yours as soon as you said it, and she'd been looking at you more often than usual since.
Kiran stands and moves towards the door, "I am happy to fulfill whichever role your majesty might desire. If you'd like me to accompany you for protection, I'm am well capable of watching for potential threats and you've seen that I can handle myself in a fight should the need arise. On the other hand, I am able to blend in and move quietly when the need arises and would be willing to go along with Ronegan, either the two of us or with Varen as well for added safety. I will follow whichever directions you choose." As he stands, he tucks away his amulet inside his shirt and removes the simple armband of the colors of the Firstforge, tucking it in his pocket, and you realize, those are the only identifying marks he seems to have on him.
Varen addresses Ronegan as the halfling is in the midst of dipping his spoon into the remnants of Ran's stew. He drops the spoon hurriedly and runs a hand through his wiry, wild black hair.
"Of course, Lady Varen. We are old compatriots, you and I." Addressing the king now, he says"I understand and agree, your majesty. I would prefer to travel with as few as possible as my errand is of course, of much less importance than your safety, King Onyx. Perhaps just myself and Lady Varen? I would not take more away from protecting you, your mother and sister."
Varen silently regrets having to dump her mutagen overboard while they were on the ferry. The boon of celerity might be handy tonight... But, she is at least confident no one saw her upend the little bottle of liquid into the ocean water.
Ronegan uses the directions that Elavor provided earlier and begins to steer Varen towards the Union Bazaar. After they are a suitable distance away from the others, Ronegan will begin to speak in Elvish to Varen in a low whisper, much quieter than the halfing's usual bombastic voice. "I am not solely seeking to visit my sister in the Bazaar -- though if we do come across her I definitely want to get some of her pastries. Rather, I have heard tales of a gathering place in the Bazaar for those who use and understand Arcane magic. The building is supposedly highly secure and magically protected, so I believe it may be very difficult to find. It is my desire to find that place, and see what knowledge the members have collected. I have a feeling that if someone in this city knows of the Dark Wanderer, they are a denizen of this place. Or perhaps, they may have some solution for the use of arcane magic to heal.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ronegan:
Varen responds in Elvish. "<Of course. If you need a moment to... consider your surroundings, we can find a place to let you go to work, and I can keep an eye out. Do you have any leads on where this gathering place may be?>"
She looks in the direction of the Cathedral, seeing the spires in the distance. "<I imagine if it were as easy as letting someone with a second sight wander freely, those that be would have found it by now.>"
Arcana or History (as appropriate): 18 - Has Varen heard of such a place?
Varen looks at Ronegan, assessing the halfling. She kneels down, getting eye level with him.
"<I may know of something... similar, to what you seek. It's an old place, built in the recesses of the city that was here before Ospel. I haven't been there before... it was a place my father told me about when I was learning how to be... me.>"
Varen stands back up, idly holding a hand on the pommel of her saber.
"<Perhaps we can discover it together. I think you will be most pleased.>"
