Elavor thinks "Oh yes, easy as pie..." relishing in the feeling of snagging a new pair of compasses... and then he hears the halfling, and looks up quickly. "You're a fool, Elavor, the shopkeeper must have ears like a bat", he thinks, and tries to run...
Elavor manages to slip the snare and bolts out the front door where he barrels into Varen and Ronegan.
"Stop! Thief," the halfling bellows comes rushing out to the doorway of his shop he has a wand gripped in his fist and a snarling expression. "Stop him," he adds ushing his BA to cast hex on Elavor causing disadvantage on DEX ability checks!

Varen gasps for air, sucking in sharply as if she had just been thrown into a freezing lake. Her eyes refocus on the dwarf, wet strands of hair covering the front of her face. "I... Thank you. I will have to think on.. What that meant."
She goes over to the elf and asks her about some specific components, wrapping up business there.
Outside she spies Ronegan as he finishes with his Arcana shopping and flags him down. "Where's Elavor? He was supposed to be making sure you didn't disappear into the library until the next Darkne..." She doesn't finish her thought as Elavor bursts out of the nearby storefront, shopkeep in pursuit. "Godsdammit. Elavor, STOP!"

“But no living man am I! You look upon a woman...You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
Elavor would have stopped when he ran into his friends, but then try to slowly back away, his arms up, towards the docks as Damien exits the shop... Looking aside to Varen and Ronegan, he says in a low voice, " Yes , yes, I'll stop. Ronegan, I hope whatever you are saying calms him... if not, we're going to have to make a run for it, I'm not feeling like a fight..."
Varen wheels on Elavor, and you see a fire and fury in the young woman's eyes unlike any you've seen before in her. In her anger, her eyes appear bloodshot. She shouts, rage unconcealed to the crowd. "We will WHAT, Elavor? Just run to the docks and have the nice skeletal ferryman kindly take us out of the entire ARCANE CITY you've somehow managed to piss off in less than an hour?"
She points accusingly at him, one hand close to the bandolier where one of her daggers is sheathed.
"You will sit on your knees and let the adults handle this, or so the gods help me, I will make your blood boil to the point that even thinking about moving will make you wish that you'd been split from teeth to ass by that crossbow bolt! Are we clear?!"
She closes the distance to within five feet of Elavor, then looks to the angry shopkeeper while keeping the half-elf within sight.
"Our companion has apparently wronged you, shopkeeper. Tell us, what is it that he has done?"
"I never sit on my knees... He got smarmy with me about not having magic, then I reacted by taking a damned compass... "
Elavor takes the compass out, laying towards the feet of the shopkeeper.
"I'm uneasy with this entire bewitched city. Ever since I got here... bewitched.... I want out. It makes me ill."he says to Varen.
Addressing Damien he says, "I apologize for the trouble, some old habits are hard to break... Your words angered me, and I acted rashly. If I paid the price for the compass, and left the city for good, would that be payment for the trouble I've caused today? My companions shouldn't have to bear the brunt of any of this..." Elavor's cheeks go beet red... and the color spreads to his ears.

Bristling the halfling comes up to Elavor having walked passed the compasses that he lays down. Then a winged monkey appears emerging from invisibility and snatches it up before hovering in midair.
"You're a fool like most topsiders without the brains in their heads to learn magic. You're not worthy of this place or that half elven blood in your veins," he says curtly. "You say you feel sick? It's the city. The city knows people inside and out and wishes to be rid of you. We can thank Ioun for that," he adds in a grumble. "I don't want your money but you're marked. I won't release you from it. Let it wear off and teach you a lesson," he adds.
Looking over to Ronegan in halfling he says: "Pick better companions before returning here," he adds gesturing at Elavor.
Damien Marshfeild looks to Varen bowing his head before he turns on the heels of his fine boots heading back to his shop as the winged monkey follows him.
The party then exits. The crowd doesn't part that well however and Elavor gets shoulder checked by a grizzly looking half-orc in silver robes with a staff in hand. This half-orc's expression hard as the symbol of the three all seeing eyes designed on his robes seems to give a faint blue aura. As the party moves through the crowds it takes almost a full five minutes before they finally reach the docks where the gondolier sits in the boat. All broad and the being moves the the party into the waters again. Approaching the veil and slipping through it you all feel pressure like the air change in your ears!
OOC: Everyone roll a Wiz save please (Varen and Ronegan with advantage because of arcane magic) DC 10.

The party manages to shake off the effects of the Umbryl Arcana and the gondolier deposits them safety at the docks. Up and out of Yelena's shop she gives Elavor a stern look before looking at both Ronegan and Varen then back at the half-elf.
"I've been instructed to tell you the way below is shut to you," Yelena says to Elavor. Looking again at Varen and Ronegan she frowns solemnly. "Please find another way down in future. There's may ways in and out for those who are worthy. My shop will no longer appear to you now," she adds ushering the whole party into the street outside.
Once shutting the door the lights go out inside and as true as her word the spice shop is no longer there...in it's place sits an empty space with a dusty for rent sign creaking in the light breeze filtering through the bazaar.
OOC: I'll wrap up this night...finally... if y'all don't have any other business.

Upon reaching the palace, she will proceed directly to the women's quarters.
"Ronegan. We will talk tomorrow." she says before closing the door between her and the two men.
She sneaks into the room shared with Petal, closing the door as quietly as possible and changing in the darkness into her sleeping clothes.

Ronegan nods gravely at Yelena. "For what is worth, my apologies."
He remains silent the rest of the way back to the Royal Apartments. He does not appear to be mad at Elavor, but is obviously very deflated. Once or twice he seems to be on the verge of saying something, instead he shakes his head and makes a note in his book.
Once he gets back, he escorts Varen back to her quarters and replies to her short statement with a little bow "Tomorrow, Lady Varen." He turns, looks at Elavor, and with a sigh, he says "You know, you could have told me, my boy. You almost cost us quite a bit. I am...disappointed."
He will go to his bed and begin to work further on the reader he is designing for Ran -- spending another hour working on it to distract his racing mind before falling asleep.
