After a bit of time fishing your line is tugged hard. Gripping on you hold tight and start working the fish in. It is a bit of a struggle, but you manage it. When you get the fish aboard you find..
The crew cheers as the large fish is brought aboard. Several crew rush forward to help you with it, and soon the fish is carried off to add to the ship's food supply.
Yanna walks over as the shark is being carried off. She has a pipe in hand, her emerald eyes twinkling with amusement and approval as she steps over. She has on a bright blue dress. "Good bit of luck that was." She says as she nods after the departing shark. She puffs on her pipe a moment, the scent of pipe smoke filling the air briefly before getting pulled away in the wind of the ship's passing. "You going to try your luck again?" She asks after a moment. She glances to you, her auburn hair flowing up and over a pair of delicate horns.
Io...
As you sit back to watch the others fish, Misty walks over and settles down next to you. Her red hair flutters in the breeze of the ship's passage as she leans against the rail near you. She wears a tunic a deep blue, with a fancy vest over it. It is clear the ship officers dressed up a bit for this leave-taking, the quality of Misty's clothing is quite a bit above and beyond what would be normal for aboard a ship. She looks very feminen, more than when you would have met her before, as she does not have on the studded leather she wore in your previous meetings. Without that on you would easily notice she is a very curvy woman, athleticly built, but bombshell in curves.
Misty does not speak, just settles back against the rail and watches. She seems more curious than anything, and her blue eyes seem to miss nothing as she looks you, as well as the others, over. She seems content to just sit back and watch though.
Ritha...
"Yes Thassa is with us on this day." Gnorcys says as she walks over to stand near Ritha. Her deep blue and purple scales gleam in the sunlight as she glances from you back to the water. "This seems to be important to the Goddess." She says after a moment. Gnorcys wears an expensive-looking dress, with ocean scenes woven over it. Many of those scenes look to have gemstones woven into them.
"I am glad to have a distant kin on my ship." She finally says, turning from the water to look at Ritha again. "We'll have time to do some swimming, more than enough time I am sure, but it looks good to be sailing fast away, as we leave the harbor." She nods back over her shoulder to where the city is fast-disappearing behind the ship.
Xerronios...
You spend an hour fishing, but must be doing something incorrectly, as nothing seems to be interested in your bait. On the far side of the ship you would notice when Spyro lands his reef shark. The time is not mis-spent though, as it is indeed as relaxing as you remember.
After about half of your hour is up a centaur comes heading over to stand nearby, looking out over the seas. You owuld recognize Aughus, the ship's keleustēs. He has a holy symbol around his thick neck, the symbol of Pharika. The centaur's hooves clip clop across the deck as he approaches, his roan coat clearly well-groomed. He has his black hair tied in many braids, all of which are then pulled back in a single braid down his back. He does not speak, but watches over the ship's railing, eyes on the water beyond. he seems to respect your wish for quiet and the relaxing nature of fishing.
Kanlos...
As you watch the others try their hands at fishing, the shape of the ship's second-in-command, Rhordon the minotaur, walks over to stand with you. Rhordon looks to care less about making a good impression during the departure, as he has on studded leather armor over a tunic and britches. He has his longsword at his hip. His horns loom above him, carved with symbols of some sort. He glances you over with calculating eyes. "So what is your symbol then? The ram, lion, horse, boar, badger, bull, or hart? I know some things of your homeland, and there are but seven lektoi symbols, though the families number more than that these days..." He meets your eyes. "Were you born to one of the families, or did you earn your place there through the Iraon Games?" He makes it sound more impressive to have won a spot through the games.
Kassiopeia...
As the ship moves further and further from shore you watch the land disappearing behind the ship, replaced with nothing but open ocean. You would be close by as the reef shark is pulled aboard, and as the various officers make their way to talk with, or just be seen by, various crew members, and others of your group. The ship moves under you, a gentle swaying that your land-legs probably are going to have to get use to.
A bit cowed by the other woman's imposing presence and obvious wealth, Ritha swallows a bit before nodding. "It is good to be leaving the polis,"Ritha agrees. "Where do you hail from, originally? I come from the village of Kumari. It lies somewhat southeast in the middle of the Siren Sea,"she says. "Though no longer quite as small as it used to be, the village can in no way compare to the polises of the land,"she admits. "There was not much going on there... which is why I believe Thassa wishes me to bring change to my homeland. Either in the form of victory, fame, or riches -- something to stir the people there out of their complacency."
After contemplation the ocean for a bit longer, she smiles. "So... is there something I can do for the ship in this moment? Would you like me try my hand and guessing where would be most advantageous for us to explore once we reach the uncharted seas?"
(If Gnorcys is amicable to having Ritha take a look at the map, Ritha would like to use her cartographer's skills and tools to try to estimate where they should travel to from the last restocking stop before venturing into the uncharted seas. Her favored territory is "Coast" which might provide advantage any INT or WIS roll.)
Kanlis nods his greeting to the minotaur, "Hart, fitting as my grandfather won our place in the races at the games. I was to compete after my tour was up, and I'm told many thought I had a good chance, but," he reaches up to his amulet, "My path was interrupted. I have not been home in some time." He shakes his head as if to rid himself of bad memories and turns again to face him, "What of you? What brings you so far from your people?"
Io doesn't talk to Misty this time around. He just glances at her as she leans against the rails and then gets back to watching the fishing. He seems pleasantly surprised when the big fish was caught but not too ecstatic over it.
Xerronios nods pleasantly at Aughus, appreciating the other's understanding and wondering what schemes the centaur is hatching, what secrets of medicinal or alchemical lore he has discovered. Which he might be seeking?
After a while, with no fish in the offing, the bard begins to sing a fisherman's song he learned more than a year ago from a human fisher in a village, a hamlet really called Kilmoreis, he'd found on the small island just west of Odunus.
The red sun rolls down over Ballyteige's waters And the Saltees grow misty and grey. At home, on the mainland, our wives and our daughters Are wishing good luck on the day. With the west wind long blowing Our nets filled o'erflowing From a shoal that broke under our lee.
So raise high a chorus, The way lies before us, With a boat full of spoil from the sea.
The wind from the northlands is cruel and smiting And the young lambs we scarcely can save, While the wind from the eastlands is callous and blighting And it adds a full foot to the wave. Oh, sweet west wind singing, A seagull a-winging Is our hooker that skims light and free.
So raise high a chorus, The way lies before us, With a boat full of spoil from the sea.
The wind from the southlands is soft and beguiling And it quickens the seeds we have set, But the wind from the eastlands is soothing and smiling And it brings the bright fish to the net. Then hope for the east wind For oh, 'tis the best wind To save our poor fishers from dree.
So raise high a chorus, Kilmoreis lies before us, With a boat full of spoil from the sea.
Phil Theer round the sails Andy Moore safely guide her One more tack and we'll make for the pier. See my Ellen and Marg'ret and (Stacia) beside her When I e'er does come home to my dear. Oh sweet queen of the seas, my Thassa Let my praise be given and To the babe who once sat on thy knee.
While we raised high our chorus, His blessing (hung) o'er us, With a boat full of spoil from the sea.
So raise high a chorus, Kilmoreis lies before us, With a boat full of spoil from the sea.
Overhead, his osprey, which, as a chick, he'd rescued from certain death after her parents had died in a storm on that same island, circled lazily inthe sky, keeping pace with the ship. Suddenly, she folds her wings and plummets into the water, coming up a moment later with a struggling fish in her talons. "Ho, Zarac, glad I am that one of us can fish!" He calls with good humor. In a moment, the raptor lands on a quiet place on the ship to enjoy her repast.
Spyro would dance excitedly as the shark is brought aboard. "That's the biggest fish I've ever caught!" He would exclaim before bending down and patting Scraps on the head. When Yerra approaches he would stand up straighter and lick his hand before trying to slick back a few stray brown hairs that had fallen in front of his eyes. "You mean try my luck fishing again, or try my luck with you" Spyro would say with a wide grin and a wink. "I don't wanna push luck much more today, catching a whopper of a fish like that and now finding out I get to spend to the next few months on the same ship as a beautiful lioe yourself... well... I think Thassa's given me more luck than i deserve." The satyr say with a smile before taking a long puff from his own pipe. "But you know what, I have never been one to quit while I'm ahead so I think I'll Keep fishing for. You wanna keep me company? I'll let ya pet Scraps, He's real friendly" Spyro would say with a smile and a nod before casting again.
"I have spent some time here and there.' Gnorcys says. "My father has decided to live among the land-dwelers, in Sitrium, while my mother lives under the waves." She shrugs. "For most of my life though I have been aboard a ship, traveling across Vhassa's waters. "I would agree that the water-dweling of our kin need something to stir them up."
Kanlis...
"So you have yet to prove yourself." Rhordon says with a nodd. "it is good you are along then, I feel this will be proving grounds for many of us." He cocks his head a bit, those massive horns sytheing through the air as he does so. "As for me?" He asks with a grunt of amusement. "I was found long ago when Gnorcys was hunting up her first crew. She found me in a tavern, busting heads, and then was sitting outside the cell when I came out of my drunken stupor the next morn. The rest is history as they say."
Io...
Misty just continues watching, content to enjoy the feel of the sea under the ship. She would come off as one that enjoys the sea, but would rather lay back and enjoy the motion of it rather than the work of doing things like fishing.
Xerronios...
Aughus smiles as you sing, and again as the bird catches its morning repass. He remains quiet though, content to enjoy the waves as you continue fishing.
Spyro...
Yanna gives you a grin. "I'd say you have better luck with the fishing for now, but won't rule out something else later on..." She continues to smile as she leans against the rail puffing here and there on her own pipe. She does lean down to scratch the mastiff on the head now and then as you fish.
(OOC: anyone doing more fishing please give me survival rolls.
Time is mid morning still, so there is a lot of day ahead if you wish to continue fishing, or you can find other things to do aboard ship.)
"Yes, I have much to prove," Kanlos mutters quietly to himself. He then pulls himself together for a moment and looks to Rhordon, "I must admit, I've never been on a ship before, much less at sea. I may not be of much use, but I'd like to try, is there anything you could teach me of the ship?"
Io stands up and turns around, leaning against the railing. Having seen all he wanted to of fishing he turns to stare at the waves, the thoughts of what lies beyond and what he must do on the back of his mind.
"Lend a hand where you will." Rhordon says with a shrug. "From my experience doing is the best teacher. Those around will give you tips or answer questions you might have." he nods towards the horizon ahead of you. "My suggestion though is to relax and prepare, who knows what we will find out there, and your time is probably better spent honing the skills you already have, rather than learning new ones."
Io...
As you look out over the waters you see a sail in the distance. It is moving towards you, on a path to intersect. As you glance to the officers around, Misty the closest to you, you would see her already looking in that direction. "Seems like she is going to cross our path." Misty says as she sees you have spotted it as well. "Hard to say at this point if it is on purpose or just hapenstance..." She gives you a nod and heads off to speak with Gnorcys.
Spyro...
As you continue fishing you get another tug on your line. This time when you pull it in you have a smallish octopus on the end of your line. More of the shiphands step forward to help get it off your line nad carried away. "Nice going." Yanna says with a grin. "Seems like a few of us will dine on octopus now as well." She glances away as the voluptuous form of Misty walked past. "I better go and see what that is about..." Yanna tells you as she pushes off of the rail and turns to follow after Misty.
Everyone...
You notice the ship's officers gathering together, and soon Misty is rushing back to the foredeck, her archers with her, and Rhordon has the Thassa's Spears organized near the mast. Yanna and Aughus move to the rowers, Yanna with her drum in hand, and the rowers taking their places on their benches.
"It is probably just a ship passing by, but we can always use the practice of getting into battle stations." Gnorcys informs the group of you as she walks up, her gem-covered dress swaying. One of the deck hands comes rushing up with a set of studded leather armor, which Gnorcys starts to put on. You would notice other ship hands carrying similar bundles to Misty and Yanna. As she puts on the armor Gnorcys continues speaking to you. "I'd suggest you either stay on the foredeck, or on the aftdeck with me, but you can position yourself where you wish." With that she finishes her straps and gives you a nod. She then returns to the aftdeck and stands near the pilot wheel.
After a bit longer it becomes clear the ship is truly going to intersect paths with you. As it gets closer the officers seem to relax a bit. Rhordon moves to speak with you all this time. "It is but a trading vessel." he explains as he nods to the oncoming ship. "Probably either has news, or wishes aid of some sort." He shrugs. "We'll let them close and see what it is they need." He then moves away, barking orders. The sail is taken down, and the rowers work their ores to slow the ship. The other ship closes in and you would spot the name on it's hull, the Sinful Devil.
"Ho there Proud Jester!" A human male, wearing the clothes of a merchant, calls from the deck of the other ship. You would spot two other rough-looking individuals manning the Sinful Devil's own sail, stowing it.
"What be your purpose!" Rhordon calls back in a booming voice.
"We be needin your help." The merchant-looking man calls back. "Some critter got on board last night, and we locked it below deck, but we be needin help gettin rid of the thing, fore it be eatin all of our supplies." The man's way of speaking is a mixture of sailor and more civilized merchant.
You would notice the officers gathering together, most of them appearing to accept the story, while Yanna shakes her head, clearly not so trusting of the merchant's purpose. Eventually Rhordon walks over to speak with you again. "Yanna thinks the merchant there is up to something, but the rest of us don't see anything amiss." He shrugs. "We trust her judgement though." He nods to you. "Time you guys earn your way a bit. Will you go onto the other ship, find out what this creature is, if anything is even there, and deal with it. Just keep your eyes open, as this could be some sort of ruse or trap."
(You can make insight checks, if you wish to, on the merchant's motives.)
"I'll check it out Yanna, Don't you worry. We'll be back in time for that fish dinner" He would add before packing up tue remainder of his fishing gear and moving to head off towards the new merchant ship.
(( OOC: Looks like everyone's making Insight checks. At this rate there'd be no lying lol. I'll join the Insight rolling too.))

Io says, "We best go together. If it is a trap, then we will have the upper hand with higher numbers." He takes the kite shield off his back and straps it to his right arm and holds his warhammer in his left as he gets ready to join the party in their critter hunting expeditions on the other ship. It looks like he is left-handed.
Ritha frowns. "Whether it is a trap or not, it is a chance for us to prove ourselves, and to learn to work together,"she says in a low tone, making sure that the merchants don't overhear her. "Let us move together as one, then,"she says, drawing one sword and holding it loosely in her hand.

Shaken out of her melancholy mood, Kassiopeia rushes under deck to the cargo hold and changes into her heavy scalemail. The captain has ordered to get ready and ready she will get as much as she can. Grabbing her backpack and checking that two of her healer's kits are packed, five rations, a torch waterskin and rope attached. Picking up her weapons and shield she returns to the top deck and briefly contemplates where to go and decides to join the arches on the foredeck.
As the officers gather around Yanna, Kassiopeia moves back to the main deck and looks over board to the other ship. There is something fishy about the request and the other 'captain', though Kassiopeia can not really put her finger on it yet.

(because I don't trust strangers ... seriously, I don't!)
As you look at the merchant and his two thuggish companions, something seems off to you. Something is clearly off with this lot, and you do not trust their word. Probably what keys you to this the most is the fact this merchant talks more like a salor than any merchant you have ever heard.
Xerronios...
You also are not sure that you trust these merchants, something seems just that little bit off.
Kanlis...
You are absolutely certain this is some sort of trap. You would know to prepare for anything.
Io...
As with Kanlis, you too are with no doubts that this merchant is a liar and is setting up some sort of trap or ruse for you.
Ritha...
You would not trust these merchants either, just wouldn't be 100% sure it is a trap. There is little doubt they are up to something though, and not being completely honest.
Everyone...
Rhordon gets the rowboat ready, and has two of the ship's rowers row you over to the Sinful Devil. From there you climb up a rope ladder and board the other ship.
"Hatch be over here." The merchant-looking one says, leading the way to the aft section of the ship. A hatch is there. "The critter be down there." The merchant-looking one says, noddding to it. "Ye take care of it and there be a reward for ye." He then tosses it open, revealing a ladder leading down into the hold of the ship. The other two rough-looking crew of the Sinful Devil move to flank their merchant captain as they wait for you to go down below deck.

Kassiopeia would like to check out two more people while they are all gathered on the deck: Rhordon - He seems rather trusting of those strangers and their fishy story. Kassiopeia is with Yanna on this and would suggest caution and vigilance.
Insight: 17
Spyro - He is sounds very eager to get to the other ship and from his words he appears to be not too concerned with safety. Is he really that rash and unconcerned?
Xerronios nods cordially at the merchant. "What can you tell us about the creature, Captain? It's size, coloring? Is it mammalian, reptilian...something else? Did you notice any special abilities or methods of attack?" Something was off about this entire situation and not only was this needed information but it allowed a delay and gave him more time to evaluate their intentions.

I may not be of much use, but I'd like to try, is there anything you could teach me of the ship?"
fishing! 12 17
Io stands up and turns around, leaning against the railing. Having seen all he wanted to of fishing he turns to stare at the waves, the thoughts of what lies beyond and what he must do on the back of his mind.
Kanlis...

Xerronios nods his assent, as well. "I'll join you, Spyro," he says, eyeing the merchant. Wariness came naturally to his people.

Kanlos insight: 24
Kanlos checks his weapons and armor to be sure they're ready to hand and readies his short bow, "I'm willing to head over."
(( OOC: Looks like everyone's making Insight checks. At this rate there'd be no lying lol. I'll join the Insight rolling too.))
Insight: 26
Io says, "We best go together. If it is a trap, then we will have the upper hand with higher numbers." He takes the kite shield off his back and straps it to his right arm and holds his warhammer in his left as he gets ready to join the party in their critter hunting expeditions on the other ship. It looks like he is left-handed.
( Well why not, just for RP reasons. Insight: 21)
Ritha frowns. "Whether it is a trap or not, it is a chance for us to prove ourselves, and to learn to work together," she says in a low tone, making sure that the merchants don't overhear her. "Let us move together as one, then," she says, drawing one sword and holding it loosely in her hand.

Spyro...
Kassiopeia would like to check out two more people while they are all gathered on the deck:
Rhordon - He seems rather trusting of those strangers and their fishy story. Kassiopeia is with Yanna on this and would suggest caution and vigilance.
Insight: 17
Spyro - He is sounds very eager to get to the other ship and from his words he appears to be not too concerned with safety. Is he really that rash and unconcerned?
Insight: 7
Xerronios nods cordially at the merchant. "What can you tell us about the creature, Captain? It's size, coloring? Is it mammalian, reptilian...something else? Did you notice any special abilities or methods of attack?" Something was off about this entire situation and not only was this needed information but it allowed a delay and gave him more time to evaluate their intentions.
