(Figured you were doing this on your own, so no reason not to run it through. Probably best to wait until later for talking to the workers though, as that won't happen until the next day.)
(Ritha would have come with to land, but she would have also been disturbed by the behavior of the people of the island, and highly suspicious of the 'sacrificial feast' being presented. Totally suspecting they were buttering us up for a murder or something similar. She'd break off from the revelry, make her excuses, and try to actually scout the island itself, the borders of the city, the lay of the land, if the volcanic activity was still dangerous... ranger stuff.)
(more meant that IO was speaking to the woman on his own, with the group walking with you, but having the conversation on his own. Not that you were not with the others. Sorry for not making that clearer.)

Kanlos con save: 18
Kanlos refuses the offer of finery, intent on remaining in his old uniform and leathers, if questioned, just replies that as a matter of his devotion to the god that spared his life. During the dinner, he barely manages to hold his stomach, excusing himself early, pleading and upset stomach and a desire to get some fresh air to clear his head. Thinking over the story of this places history, he becomes increasingly suspicious that there's more to the story. But in any case, disgusted at the callous impiety of these people in their treatment of the fallen. He seeks out one of the more isolated areas where the volcanic damage is still visible, and begins to pray to Athreos to accept these lost souls into his embrace, digging into the lava flow as best he can in several different spots, placing a total of 100 copper coins as an attempted offering to pay their way. Afterwards, he'd return to the ship to spend the night, sharing his impressions of the place, but also asking that they spend a day or two in port to attempt to get to the bottom of his suspicions.

Xerronios does his best to hide his reaction at the callous nature of their hosts and immediately begins composing a ballad on the topic. Back home, among the prides, such behavior would quickly see one cast from the clans, outlawed and hunted. Such polluted blood should never be allowed to foil the people. There could be no doubt that the Mistress of Fate had lead them here. Fate needed to take a hand with these people. As they moved through the town, he would take the opportunity to comment on things, ask the occasional question, seemingly innocuous but always a little open-ended, questions designed to draw more information than the other person might realize.
He also does not trust their hosts and like Kanlos politely refuses the offer of finery, planning to wear his Glamerweave later when he performs. He does ask one question specifically of their guide, though.
"The laborers, the one who were, um, able to pay for their...rescue...what has become of them and their descendants?" Xerronios listens carefully to the answer, as he has listened to everything that day. He wanted an answer of course, but was more interested in the way he was answered. He did not trust these greed-filled people.
Insight: 17. He's trying to get a bead on the motives of their hosts, not merely as to the laborers but what they hope to achieve in the short term and long term, and specifically as that applies to them and the ship.
One more thing Io will tell the woman, "So you said you are unaware of the temples and shrines set up by the laborers. Does that mean you do not often visit temples for prayer?"
Also for the record, Io will not "refuse" the offer of finery and thank them but he will not change out of his armor.
Io The woman giggles at Io's question. "That is what we have the laborers for isn't it, to make the required motions to the gods for us?"
Xerronios When questioning about the laborers that left with the landowners you only get blank looks and shrugs. No one seems to know, or care, what happened to those. "We brought all new laborers with us when we returned." Is the common response.
Ritha Your scouting doesn't find any signs of the volcano being close to any sort of eruption. Moving around you see people going about their work.
Kanlos You recieve a vision... A great band of ash-smothered souls stand on the banks of the Tartyx, with not a single coin between them. A shroud-cloaked figure, you know to be Athreos, appears to those on the river's bank, and seems to be speaking with them, though you hear none of the words. Words do come to you as the figures start to disappear, first one at a time, then quicker, until the shadow-cloaked figure stands alone onthe bank. "Return to the mortal world and claim the wealth of those who left you to die in order to pay your fare to cross the Tartyx."
Kassiopeia As you move around the town you find the laborers working at thier duties. There are fishing boats in the harbor, but no other large ships like the Proud Jestor. Give me an insight check please.
Insight: 14. He's trying to get a bead on the motives of their hosts, not merely as to the laborers but what they hope to achieve in the short term and long term, and specifically as that applies to them and the ship.
The woman's comment very much rubs Io the wrong way and annoys him greatly. He had accepted that he was no longer in the position of power he once held and when his past work and duties would keep him away from regular visits to the temple, he would make time everyday to pray to Athreos in spite of not being able to visit the temple frequently. To him, there was no excuse that would justify delegating the task of worship to others. He does not want to antagonize the hosts for no reason so he respectfully responds, "I'm sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. Worship is a highly personal thing and I do not believe it to be possible to delegate making the required motions to others. Even kings need to make time to offer their prayers."
Ritha approaches some of the farmers, briefly praying to Thassa: 'My lady, may you give me the patience to deal with these faithless infidels, and find seeds of piety and grace sprouting among them', she murmurs under her breath.
"Excuse me... "she says more loudly, coming up next to one of them with a polite smile. "I'm interested the history of your island town. I have heard from the wealthy townsfolk about the prosperity awaited from the fields this year, but it seems to have come at a great personal cost to laborers such as yourselves. Would you be willing to tell me about it?"

You get the sense that Bésios wants something from you. At this point what that might be is a mystery.

"You are correct." Bésios says, moving in to speak with Io and gesturing the woman to move along. "Do you serve a specific deity or are you a more general worshiper?" He asks io as he gives him a disarming smile.

The farmers give you side-long looks. "What does one such as you care about us small folk?" A rough-looking man asks. "Aren't your friends even now eating the lord's food and bathing in the lord's pools?"

The big man himself was here in front of him. He speaks clearly, "I a worship Athreos, the River Guide."
Bésios nods in response. "A worthy one to serve."Now is there anything else I might do for you, prior to arranging a sleeping place for you and your companions?" He asks as he glances from Io to the few that are still here. A frown crosses his face. "Seems most of your companions have left, please assure them, if you will, that they can stay here at my home if they wish, they do not have to retire to the cramped quarters of your ship."
Io takes this chance to excuse himself. He says, "I shall inform them as I meet them. For now, I would like to explore this place for a bit by myself." He would try to excuse himself and find some laborers or farmers or anyone to talk to who might know the ship the woman left on a week ago.

Io nods. He takes note of that and decides to try and get into a conversation with the laborers whenever he can.

Ritha, I see that scouting being done a bit later, so am going to wait to respond on it until the others have a chance to post.

Being in the cargo hold and busy making her own noise Kassiopeia totally missed Kanlos' muffled call and the ship coming to a hold.
It's only in the afternoon that she comes up to the main deck, noticing that they have put into a port of sorts, wondering where the others have gone.
Talking to the crew she learns of the welcome delegation and that the others had left to scout out the place.
Since she is late to the party she decides to get Hector and take a walk around the harbor area to see what she can find out about the town.
Are there any fishing boats in the harbor, or other vessels?
