Ritha narrows her eyes and tilts her head. Trying to mingle among the crowd, she mumbles under her breath for guidance, before approaching one of the nobles who seems familiar with the Besios brothers. "Pardon my intrusion,"she says politely, "But do you know what is the matter with that man over there? He seems to be a bit under the weather. Does that happen often to him or anyone else after a feast is thrown?" She tries to make her manner as friendly as possible, despite her great discomfort in this crowd.

Ritha The land owner draws Ritha over to Bésios. Bésios explains to Ritha that someone has been sneaking into people’s homes at night and filling their mouths with volcanic ash. The victims wake up coughing blood after the jagged, rocky ash lacerates their insides in their sleep. Residents are beginning to become afraid, as no one has managed to catch sight of the culprit. Bésios promises you that if you can catch the culprit in the act, the Minuvoan landowners will gladly fully stock your ship with the finest food and wine that Minuvos has to offer.

Xerronios notices the coughing man, the blood, and the man's attempts to hide it. He watches Ritha move off with Bésios and decides to let her handle it. He decides to mingle through the crowd and learn what he can that way. As he wanders amidst the gathering, he engages in small talk designed to draw out information about the man and what happened and anything relevant to that.
Kanlos, being somewhat more direct than others, will head straight for the man coughing blood, pulling him aside slightly and quietly inquiring, "Excuse me sir, I can't help but notice you seem to be ill. Have you sought priests for healing?"
Ritha quietly makes her way about the feast, pointing at other members of her group through the throngs of people to send them a message relaying Bésios's offer, though her tone makes it quite clear what she thinks about taking any food or wine from Bésios for the journey.
You each find out the same information as Ritha, someone has been sneaking into homes during the night and filling people's mouths with volcanic ash. The land owners seem to be the only ones affected though, as it does not seem to be happening to the workers.
The brother shakes his head at Kanlos, as he coughs some more. "If you or your companions are such healers, then I'd welcome your aid." He tells Kanlos.

Io wonders if the culprit putting the ash in people's mouths is not a person at all but rather a sign from Athreos. Io tries to call on his knowledge of his god to figure out if the ash being put in people's mouth is a sign that they need to repent.

You get a sense that your god is definitely behind this. A vision of those figures standing on the banks of the river flash through your mind, figures that are more shade than mortal.
Io rubs his short bearded chin. Due to being part of the noble class in the past, he knows very well that not all members of nobility take well to bad news, especially being told that they are being punished by the gods for something. He stares at Besios and his brother to try and gauge how well they are likely to react to being told that the gods are displeased by them.

People like them would not take well to being told they are in the wrong so he decides to try to skirt around the issue and indirectly plant the idea of repenting. He says, "This is quite troubling... It may be a good idea to pray to Athreos for guidance during such troubling times."
Bésios’s nods to Io. "Please do that for us friend." he requests of Io. "In the meantime, will you aid us in this matter, beyond your prayers? We need someone to help keep an eye out for whomever is sneaking into our homes during the night. Can we count on you for this?" He puts the request out to the entire group, not just Io, his gaze sweeping over everyone here. It is fairly clear he is not just requesting though. Io's insight would also tell him that it is unlikely the Proud Jester is going to be allowed to leave the harbor, at all, if you turn down this lord.
Ritha grits her teeth, but turns the expression into a semi-polite rictus. It looks like we're getting embroiled in this conflict one way or the other, she thinks angrily.

Xerronios studies the man, trying to determine just what is going on behind the facade. He also considers the Lady of Fate and what her desires might be in this matter. What would be serve the needs of fate.

Kanlos nods hesitantly, "Some of my friends are indeed capable of invoking the gods' miracles to perform feats of healing. However, their miracles seem dependent on the faith of the recipient as much as their own. Do you feel you have faith sufficient for that? I'm concerned that something quite harmful may occur if the gods decide your faith does not meet their demands."
In response to the insistence that they help these spoiled nobles, Kanlos glances around at his companions before slowly responding, "I feel I can speak for my companions when I say that we will not leave until we've addressed the root cause of this issue."
"Very good." Bésios says with a nod to Kanlos. "I would suggest you all go and get some rest, as I will expect you will want to keep watch tonight, and use your skills to discern who this individual is that is doing this to my people."
Xerronios
You would feel the god of fate may have had a hand in setting this up as a way to acomplish something great on this island. It is out of their hands now, and in those of the river god, likely just as your god wished all along.
The feast goers soon are on their way back towards the docks. You arrive at the tavern for your meeting with Khloë.
"Was the food and company up to your expectations?" Khloë asks as you arrive for the meeting. She waves you to chairs around a table and takes a seat herself.
On the way to the tavern, as they are all exchanging notes, the Leonine bard shares his thoughts and conclusions, particularly those about Klothys.
"What do you think Athreos wants accomplished, here?" Xerronios asks respectfully. Lack of desire to worship the gods and goddesses of Theros did not mean he failed to respect their power, influence or those who did choose to worship them.

At the tavern, Xerronios nods. "Yes, no surprises in that quarter." And let her make of that what they will. Beyond that, he remained silent. He had not met the woman and those that had could share what he'd learned about some of the land owners. He chose to study the woman and try to determine her motives and honesty.
