"Quite to the contrary, my stout fellow! I've now completed my stretches and gotten my blood flowing," Gibson does half a squat and twists back and forth at the waist, "(all part of my daily routine) and we've clearly taken care of the most dangerous part of this job so now we just need to gather some information and return to get paid! Now, I see no need to further investigate an abandoned building so let's just move on to known pirate locales to see what we can find... away from here. I can tell you all agree by the looks on your faces. So... away we go, eh?!" That dubious yet hopeful smile again.
Arvastan stares at Gib for a moment before turning to the rest of the group. "Shall we head for the front doors or around to the back?" He leans lazily against his trident and glances down the path leading to the back doors. "Or I can scout ahead a bit, if you'd like?"
Tul takes a moment to kneel next to the dead animals. She reaches out and touches each one lightly on the side, feeling their warmth quickly draining from their bodies. She sighs softly then stands and looks to Gib.
"Many see what they want when nervous and scared, but even in a very inebriated state it is unlikely one of these was mistaken for a pale faced man with rats crawling on his body."
She turns to Arvastan.
"If the gnome's story is even partially accurate it sounds like he was able to enter through the back with no trouble. It might be the safest place to enter. Perhaps you should lead the way and make sure no one has changed that."
Arvastan nods and gives Tul a lazy salute with his trident before moving ahead as stealthily as possible to make sure no nasty surprises wait on the path ahead.
Arvastan, you creep silently along the path, feeling fairly confident in your ability to remain undetected. Nothing else seems to be stirring in the garden as you reach the back door without issue. A thick layer of filth and grime pervades the windows near the door, so you can't really see into the house. Everything seems still and quiet.
He carefully makes his way back to the others. "The path looks clear," he reports with a shrug. "Can't see into the house, though." He didn't trust the stillness, though. Stillness in the ocean meant death more often than not. "C'mon, might as well go see if we can find the rat man."
Although Gibson is able to wipe a great deal of grime off the window (and get his sleeve completely filthy in the process) the inside of the window is still caked with enough grease to make seeing inside difficult. You are able to make out what appears to be a staircase leading upstairs in the room, but that's about it.

Tul listens to Arvastan's report, nodding agreement and then watches Gib look through one of the windows.
"Opening a door is the only way we will be able to begin this journey," she says and reaches for the handle. She takes one look to see if she notices anything unusual about the handle, and if not, she opens it.
The kitchen is dirty and damp, with blotches of gray mold and cobwebs in every corner of the room, and the stink of old grease immediately present to all you enter. In the southwest corner of the room you see some iron kitchen equipment next to a chimney of sorts, next to it, under the window that Gib tried to clean is a discolored stone sink.
To the right of the sink, a small closed wooden cupboard is fixed to the wall about five feet from the floor. Against the far wall, a flight of wooden stairs lead upstairs to the second floor. Upon examination, you notice that the woodwork of the stairs is worn and a few treads are missing, but, if you are careful, the stairs look usable.
Arvastan only
You notice some tracks on the floor made by a small humanoid -- either a halfling or gnome. You can roll a Survival check to see if you can follow the path of the tracks -- or tell the others about it and have them assist or assist them.
Dimma only
Your Detect Magic spell pings as soon as you enter the kitchen -- across the hall, in the maid's quarters, you see a powerful illusion spell on something on the floor over there.
Gibson puts a hand on Arvastan's shoulder as he enters, probably-not-too-subtly wiping his dirty sleeve on the elf's shirt as he steps past him to take in the room.
"Well. No pirates here! Onto the next stop on our investigative journey!" Seeing their expressions he rolls his eyes. "Alright... Let's get this over with. Try not to fall through any rotten floorboards," he says as he heads toward the sink to find something to clean his sleeve.
Tul moves carefully into the room and approaches the cupboard to the right of the sink. Using the scabbard of her ninjaken short sword, she nudges the cupboard open.
"Do stop touching me without invitation," Arvastan finally snaps at Gib, baring sharpened teeth. Another moment of staring, he shakes himself and he turns to inspect the small tracks on the floor closer, humming to himself. "We've some tracks here," calls out to the others, pointing them out. "I'm afraid I'm rather terrible at tracking on land, though I'm happy to assist if anyone else would like to do so."
(Arvastan will assist if anyone else would like to check~ He's awful at it)
Gib moves to the sink, and notices a bunch of rags stuffed into the drain, but otherwise, nothing.
Tul, nudging the cupboard open, sees only some scattered pieces of what was clearly once fine silverware. Even without the complete set, they might be worth a few gold in town if they were properly cleaned (add 3 gold pieces to your inventory).
Dimma points with her warhammer across the hall where the maid's closet sits, "Illusion magic..." she begins to walk in it's direction cautious to not be caught off guard. "Perhaps that old story about the wizard has some credance after all."
When she reaches the site of the magic she waves her warhammer at it in an attempt to dispell the illusion.

(Dimma -- give me an Arcana check.)
As Gibson pulls the rags out, at first it looks as though he has released something backing up the drain, as something black oozes out. Then, as it continues to spread -- you realize to your horror, that is a swarm of insects, spiders in particular and they begin to crawl up towards you, leaping off the sink and trying to land on you.

Gibson lets out a frightened yelp and jumps back, a full two feet in the air. Pointing a shaking finger, he looks back at the others and stammers an unintelligible warning. While turned around, pointing behind him, another bolt of energy (Eldritch Blast) shoots from his finger toward the danger, seemingly by accident.
Tul notes the silverware, thinking that it could be used as a donation in town when they get back and slips it into her pack. She's quickly distracted by Gib deciding to use old dirty rags to some how clean off grease on his clothing with. What would that . . . what on earth is coming out of the sink? Spiders.
Most will run away from anything larger than they are, but these seem intent on attacking the party. What is with this place?
Tul quickly swats at the swarm with her nunchuka and then tries stomping on some with her foot.
