"That I could, I didn't notice any when I rushed off the ship but I think some local advice here would be welcomed" Looking around for anyone else from the ship 22 " Purhapes some of the crew that have visted the port might know of a few good bars as I am defentily not suited to being out in the warmer enviroments, give me the cold mountains any day"
Mal starts walking and talking as they go. "Clancy, a pleasure to meet you. I am Malambing, but you may call me Mal. Let's go find your friends. I have the most wonderful place for all of your needs - the woman who runs it, her name is Pilla. She's strong of opinion and quick with a slap upside the head if you're smart with her, but her satay is amazing and will have you wondering how you ever ate anything else. She's Lokanan, but she has a few of my people on staff so she's okay. Say, that's a big fellow - is that a Denawa? I haven't seen too many, I didn't realize they were so big! He looks a little lost, too. Is that one of your friends?" He talks a mile a minute, occasionally pointing out sights and waving to people he sees, but he is friendly and appears genuinely interested in whatever Clancy says.
"Yes, that's them, the big fellow is Jupp and the little one with him, that's Samnang. I don't know them too well, I'm usually a solo traveller, but we were together for quite awhile on the ship, so I guess they are friends? I would call them companions, but maybe they are friends..." Clancy looks unsure and a little overwhelmed at the constant chatter from Mal, "Is Pilla's place expensive? To be honest I'd rather camp," Clancy looks around, "but I guess there's nowhere suitable for camping around here..."

Jupp sees Clancy headed their way with someone else chatting to him.
Mal grins seeing an orang pendek - especially seeing one paired up with a denawa. "Hello, my friends! I am Malambing, guide and local expert for all of your needs here in Parakan. I've been told by my good friend Clancy that you are looking for some place to set up camp, and I can recommend no finer establishment than Abeguwo's Kitchen - You can find food, drink, lodging, and a great deal of entertainment, all at reasonable prices. It's the beating heart of the Veiled Garden, and I'd be happy to show you the way! Clancy was telling me a little about himself, but I must get to know you as well! What are your names? Where are you from? Would you like a fresh mango?"
Seemingly from nowhere, Mal produces a large, oblong fruit with green, yellow, and red skin. He whips a small knife out and starts carving off slices, handing the sweet, sticky sections to each member of the group.
Clancy gingerly takes a piece of the fruit and tastes it, "Oh. Okay. Wow. Uh-huh yep this is good. Have you tried this?" Clancy gestures towards the fruit and looks up at Jupp then down at Samnang, "If you haven't, you've got to... Oh yeah this is Mal, he's gonna help us find a place to stay. He seems cool, talks a lot but seems cool..."
“Call me Samnang!” she smiles, expertly slicing the mango on one side of the pit “I’ve come from magnificentKhmer.” There’s a degree of sarcasm to that statement.
Mal nods, grins, and finishes his mango. "Now, shall we go see Pilla at Abeguwo's kitchen? After that, I can maybe provide some additional guidance and direction, for a very reasonable price, of course!"
Mal nods and leads you up the hill and past the Mayoral Palace of carved mahogany surveys the streets that spill out from this central hill. Clustered at its flanks, the houses of the rich clans take up the whole of the hill’s crown with their peaked and carved roofs a jealous echo of the palaces splendor. Toward the base of the hill, a few more modest houses have been constructed by high merchants and the heads of guilds.
You see no special watch charged with guarding this district. Instead, the servants of the noble houses here seem vigilant, and quick to note strangers; climbing the straight road up you pass the more modest building where the Mayor holds court on ordinary matters, Mal hurries you on avoiding any questions.
You descend the hill again and enter a small pleasure district. The Veiled Garden is named for the leafy well-yard at its centre, where a dozen slender wooden buildings boast balconies adorned with beauties and handsomes clad in sheer Merubat shanku. Looking around, sailors, traders, and unmarried mercenaries seem to make up the greater part of their custom, and locals are rarely seen apart from a few small groups.
You see that most folk here go about with their knives at their hips and in groups when they may.
Perusing the architecture you see that though the best houses of the district are favored by the nobility and the richest traders, there are drinking-dens, restaurants and gambling houses to suit any purse.
Mal leads you towards a particularly beautiful building, two Orang Bunian guards clad only in light sashes about their waists stand at the door, chosen as much for their aesthetics as their skill with the kris at their waists. The taller one nods to Mal, " Good evening, Little Macaque. Head on in."
They ran practiced eyes over the group though their noses wrinkled in alarm as Jupp approached....though the night was cooler he had sweated profusely during the day in his metal armour and was smelling rather ripe....
Jupp will nod to the two guards and stop before them "Do you two know where I might find a bathhouse if there is not one already attached to the rooms of this establishment?"
"Come, come, brother - everything can be taken care of here - besides, with the smell of Pilla's curry in the air, you'll blend right in!" Mal winks at the guard he spoke to, and says "Good to see you, Sailfin - how's the family?" As he makes small talk, he ushers his new friends inside.

" My family is well, as far as I am aware. ", he waved them inside. " All facilities are within."
The group walked into Abeguwos Kitchen - the building was built of exquisitely carved teak divided by brightly coloured bamboo screens, blinds and hangings, the staff moved about clad in brief vests and sheer sarongs of bright orange, red and yellow, they were young Lokanan and Merubat men and women with easy smiles and shining hair that smelled of honey. A commanding looking Lokanan woman in her mid 30s came out to greet them dressed in a batik cheong-sam and bejewelled fingers and ears, " Good Evening, Visitors to our Island. I am Pilla, this is my business and we are at your service.".
"Hello, po tita Pilla - It's good to see you again. My friends here would like a drink, some food, and maybe rooms for a while? They are very important people from beyond the lagoon - this one here is from magnificent Khmer!" Mal introduces the three in turn, and gives the occasional nod of greeting to some of the Merubat staff.

She peruses the group, and her nostril twitched slightly, " Yes.....but first...bathing. So that you may be properly relaxed. I will have some drinks and fruit brought to you while you bathe. Any preferences? Communal, private, shared? Will you require a bathing attendant?"

"Sounds pleasant, does she cook stew?" Putting out a hand to say as if to lead the way

Are we being followed or is anyone paying PARTICULAR interest in the group?

Not that you've noticed.
( Yes. Yes, they do.)
(When I'm rolling actual dice, I roll so much better lol - *looks suspiciously at virtual dice*)

"What is the cost of a private bath madam?"
