Krikoris waves frantically at Mal, then gestures at Rushi's eyes and make frantic put it down motions.
And well he might.
As Mal picks up the mouldering book tendrils of black filth lash out from it and attempt to fasten themselves around his head and force his face into the horrific pages.
"No taking any of these vile things! Burn them." Gajesh says as he sees the tentacles come from the book, the small flame in his head glowing a bit more intensely.
After quite a few minutes of swearing and frustration Malambing eventually manages to open the door, the lock a strange and arcane mechanism compared to the simple mechanisms he usually encountered.
As the door swung inward it revealed a long room lined with ten bronze coffers mortared into the wall, there is a door halfway along the lefthand wall and a carved stone frieze at the far end of the room. A brazier sits in the centre of the room casting orange light from flames that should have gone out centuries ago.

(Dex Saving Throw. DC 14.)
Mal utters a brief, muffled scream of surprise -
Dex save: 12
(if that roll didn't take, here's another roll - Dex save: 11)
"No taking any of these vile things! Burn them." Gajesh says as he sees the tentacles come from the book, the small flame in his head glowing a bit more intensely.
If he's able to, Mal drops the book and scrambles back to the safety of the door, hiding behind Gajesh.
Mals quick reactions get him out of the room and he's pretty sure save both his life and his good looks.
Gajesh hisses at the book once more and steps back as he quickly lobs the flame towards the book, another forming soon after.
The book screams and writhes shrilly for a moment before being reduced to a charred lump....
Zeltheris turns to the priest, "Is this normal for temples? Cursed, killer books?"
Rushdi holds up a hand, fretfully. "I don't think I can stress this any further: this place is cursed, and no one comes down here."
Paladin - warforged - orange
Mal nods weakly, and resolves not to touch anything else that looks like an evil book.
"It is hard enough convincing others that knowledge is key... now we have evils within words. What is next?" she says as she shakes her head.
Yevna Galanodel - Wood Elf | Level 8 | Druid/Circle of Spores 6 - Ranger 2 - Ravnica
Nyx - Satyr | Level 9 | Rouge/Swashbuckler 5 - Bard/Collage of Lore 4 - Lost Mine of Phandelver/Storm King's Thunder
"Well then, let's keep going so we can get out of here," Mal says, a little uncertainty in his voice.
He advances to the next door in the corridor and takes a listen - Perception: 8
Turning the corner Mal sees a solid mahogany door in the left hand wall a short way ahead and beyond it the corridor ends at an ornate brass door.
Listening at the mahogany door he hears nothing, there is a rather intricate looking lock keeping the door secure.
As they move forward, Gajesh makes sure to avoid going anywhere near the remains of the book, looking ready to burn anymore they come across.
Mal gestures at the mahogany door. "Want me to open this one?"
Krikoris shrugs, "Worth a look."
