Krikoris gives Rushdi a puzzled look, "If it's so horribly cursed and forbidden, why not just destroy the whole place? Burn what can be burnt and tear down the rest, throw it into the sea, anything to destroy it."
Mal is at the doorway. Is the sand at the center of the room disturbed in any way? Or does he understand the language being spoken?
Perception: 7
The sand appears undisturbed but would need to be walked across in order to access the book unless you want to thread your way between the animated corpses.
The language is reminiscent of Garunam the whispers seem to indicate both hunger and a desire to hear someone speak something...
As Krikoris and the others begin their discussion the corpses begin chanting the word, " Jalpa"........which seems to mean 'debate'.
Mal cocks his head, confused. "I... I think they just want someone to talk to. Maybe they can give us some answers?"
He keeps a healthy six feet of distance away from the bodies, but looks at one and in his best Garunam, says "Hello there, old one. Can you tell us why you're trapped in a chair?"

The desicated corpse leaned towards Mal as he neared, its teeth snapping together as its wasted nostrils sniffed at him, " Jalpa! Debate! Two enter the pit....the loser is food...."
Its head craned to the side with a disconcerting snapping sound, " We are the audience.....Debate! Debate!..."
They were definitely human once, and are undead now....perhaps they kept their intelligence after death but seem semi-rabid and insane to Rushdi. Perhaps their long isolation has degraded their faculties....they certainly seem to have no issues with cannabalism though whether that came before or after death he cannot tell.
He is unsure whether they were affixed to the benches when they were alive or after death....
Cinta thrusts her pike into the head of one of the creatures.
Cintas weapon has enough reach that she is able to destroy the dead thing even as it reaches for her to try and grasp her flesh and shove it into its mouth.......yet even as it dies it is still demanding a debate....and then it is naught but dust and bones.

"I agree. If it must be destroyed then let us put it to the flame and be done with it." Gajesh says, letting the flame form into his hand once more.

Gajesh stays back but peeks into the area, drawing his Scimitar while keeping the magical flame up in his other hand.

The other corpses took up the call.
" DEBATE! JALPA! DEBATE!...."
Kirkoris hangs back, "Why do I feel that this 'debate' is actually a fight to the death."
Can Rushdi determine what these creatures are?

"Whatever this is, it is unnatural. We should lay them to rest, it is the least we can do," says Cinta with a steely look.

Krikoris nods, "Feel free, I'll cover you from here."
Uce nods. "I can cover you as well."
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Mal nods quickly, uncomfortable with the thought of being food. He draws his shortbow, and says "I'll cover you as well."
( I'm assuming the answer is no. But everyone is staying on the stepped area and no one has entered the pit, correct?)
Correct.

"This is beyond me," says Cinta looking defeated.

Seeing the weapon fail, Krikoris sends a bolt of fire at the same corpse.
