I don’t trust them. They look hungry. But speak your piece with them Nibor… Coals gem crackles with stored energy as he paces away to keep a good distance between him and the creatures
Rollo looks to Nibor and nods in agreement. He lowers his rifle slightly, but has his finger still on the trigger. His eyes pulse with a quick dull red light before fading again…
Nibor takes a breath now things have calmed slightly and nods to his friends, grateful that they have laid down their arms (for now). He relays what he's heard from the creatures so far to the party.
"Thank you friends, truly. They want to share knowledge but seem more frightened of us, if we stick together and remain vigilant I'm sure we have the advantage here. Could you watch my shell while I parlay?"
to the creature
"Of course, we'd be keen to share knowledge, I'm certain we have something of note to impart or assist with! You'll understand my friends can't leave with those ruffians just outside but as long as there's no funny business there'll be no need for violence yes? None of us want that do we?
"Now, how can we help, you seek knowledge I'm sure, what specifically are we talking about and what can you tell us of this place and the others down here?"
We will tell. This place drew us in. There is magical energy everywhere. It pulses from below. The Crushing Wave are here. Their leader is here. The energy comes strongest from him, yes. He wields a powerful weapon. Great power it gives him. We would love to have it, yes. Such power. He is below, in his sanctum. Surrounded by the waters.
We have been down here so very long. The world moves on above us. Give us knowledge of the workings of the world, of the creations and things built.
A powerful weapon you say, fascinating! And tell me this, have you found anything of note in your exploring of this domain? Or anything else of this crushing wave that could be of assistance? Numbers, any particularly nasty beasties or prisoners perchance?
Nibor will tell the creatures a little of his adventures wandering, nothing overly specific but enough to whet their whistle that more will follow if they continue to cooperate
You have told some yes and I shall tell in return, no need for noodling about in my noodle is there? Knowledge of the world you seek? I can share more of history, architecture, nature...speak on what it is you need
Nibor thinks on these creatures, driven by the thirst for knowledge and shudders at seeing what they have become, seeing much of his own drive in the poor beasts. He's sympathetic but remains wary
I will allow a peek inside as you say but first we will need something a bit more of use from you and your fellow here. Something we can use to help us in our quest, be it knowledge, trinkets or otherwise
The nothic stamps it's feet like a spoiled child before catching sight of Coal's crackling gauntlet and composing itself.
Very well, we will tell. That one calls himself Shatterkeel. He is the leader. His weapon is a trident that grants power in his sanctum. The waters listen to him. That one never parts with it and it cannot be destroyed. The power of great Olhydra sleeps within. This is all this one knows.
Coal will step forward with a sigh, Nibor if they seek knowledge on mechanisms and the structure of the weave of magic then i shall allow them to view it from me. It would be better for you to be standing in attendance, none of us can understand them so if you are incapacitated in some way we will not be able to discern their intent. He kneels down in front of the creatures and lowers his head towards them
Thank you friend Coal, most gracious however I am wary of giving these fellows too much, if you don't mind I have an alternative suggestion if you'll all just bear with me a short while?
To the nothic
I will allow you to ahem "noodle" however it must remain on our terms. Please allow me a short time to gather myself.
He sits himself down, spacing himself between the creepies and his friends. From his shell he produces a bracelet of sorts adorned with stars, he fiddles with it as he closes his eyes, ever so faintly you can hear him...humming to himself. A slow and quiet melody, steady and low in tone but the consistency and steadiness of it is somewhat reassuring and comforting.
Nibor uses Channel Divinity: Knowledge of the Ages to make himself proficient with Alchemist's Supplies
The humming dies down, Nibor opens his eyes and smiles warmly at his friends.
There now, sorry for the wait.
To the Nothic,
Ok then, you may have a look at what is on my mind. Just the surface now and what is most prevalent, I assure you I'm aware of your sort and will know if you go digging too deep!
He focuses in his mind solely on the Alchemist's Supplies. Alphabetising and cataloguing to ensure his mind doesn't wander.
The nothic's eye flashes green and it stares fixedly into Nibor's eyes. It takes every drop of knowledge Nibor has about how best to combine various elements and chemicals and how to protect oneself when so doing.
After it has had it's fill, it blinks several times as if having just awoken and backs away toward the other nothic. She hits him with a look that says 'where's mine?' He presses his forehead against hers and shares the alchemical knowledge.
Very good, now then, we've kept our deal my friends and you have your knowledge. Now if you're agreeable we were hoping to bed down here for a short while, I assure you we won't impose longer than is needed. Have we an accord?
This one may sleep. We will rest after our meal as well.
When this one goes below, do not tell them about us. Let us sleep. We will eat knowledge from any of that ones minions that are curious enough to come here.
So whats the plan? Coal asks over some dried rations. Do we want to risk swimming in the water to avoid the guards on the bridge, even though we saw a shark in there, or are we going to bully our way over the bridge? They've probably replaced the dead while we rested so either way has its risks
Yara looks to Carlar and nods in agreement, Agreed.
She looks to Nibor, I’s dunno what they’s saying, but they are lookin’ atcha right hungry. I’s I will stay with you if they wanna talks it out…

This one will give freely?
The nothic looks ravenous

Nibor relays what he heard to the group
Any questions or suggestions my fellows?

The nothic looks a little frustrated.
We tell much. Let us look inside. Just a little. This one just needs to hold still. No pain.
It taps it's head, beside its eye which glows slightly.
You have told some yes and I shall tell in return, no need for noodling about in my noodle is there? Knowledge of the world you seek? I can share more of history, architecture, nature...speak on what it is you need

Can’s they helps us if we need to fight? There’s power in numbers…
Yara’s eyes dart between Nibor and the nothics.

As the creatures retreat, Rollo once more takes up his sentry post, even more wary of what lays in the dark watching them.

Coal harrumphs and settles down in a corner farthest away from the creatures and settles into an uneasy sleep
The group rest without any further interruption, awakening in the morning refreshed and ready to explore anew.
The nothic are still asleep.
So whats the plan? Coal asks over some dried rations. Do we want to risk swimming in the water to avoid the guards on the bridge, even though we saw a shark in there, or are we going to bully our way over the bridge? They've probably replaced the dead while we rested so either way has its risks
Bridge sounds good to me …I’s don’t like water after that stupid boat tipped over. Yara grumbles, shuddering at the memory.
