Northlands Campaign

You hear footsteps and voices approach, likely 6-7 of them.  And from the amount of noise they are making, it is evident that they are not expecting trouble of any kind.  Moments later, the northern door opens, and the first of them file through.  Memories flash of a time not too long ago you faced the same masked and robed figures that stand before you now.

Three of the cultists come through the door before you spring the trap.  There are more figures behind them.

Kina:  15 -- active turn

If its okay Bart will purposfully let Kina go first. He will extend his wing in front of him gesturing toward the enemies and say "Ladies first".

Kina was in the middle of taking off her running harness when the cultists show up. Figures.
Without time to do much else, she dutifully charges at full gallop, trying to ignore the pendulous and uncomfortable bouncing, and gives them a sweeping two-handed swing of her staff but this time, to avoid becoming a huge roadblock to the others, she spends her bonus action after the charge dodging back instead of throwing out another attack.

(Attack rolls against her will have disadvantage)

Attack: 18 Damage: 9

The cultist staggers aside, but does not go down.

Kina:  15

Bart is gonna move towards the back of the group and he is gonna hold his action to let the other go ahead so he can focus on helping his fellow heroes.

Cade trots forward and attacks the ones in the room already...
Bite Attack: 15 Damage: 7
Claws Attack: 26 Damage: 18

The cultist struck by Kina stumbles in front of Cade, who finishes him off with his jaws, and swipes with his paw at the next one in line, tossing him bleeding and motionless against the easternmost wall.

One more cultist in this room, you see at least 3 more behind him.

Wil looses an arrow at the remaining Cultist in the room.

Attack: 22 Damage: 12

OOC: Hunter's Mark gave the extra 1d6 of damage.

(OOC:  Hunter/Horde Breaker, can take a 2nd attack at another target within 5'....they are all lined up like bowling pins if you want a 2nd attack)

Wil looses an arrow at the next one in line, catching him just below his mask and driving him backward into the cultist next in line.  He is not moving.

(I had forgotten about my new Hunter abilities, thanks for the reminder :D. Are any of our group within 5ft of the cultists? My intent is to try to use Hail of Thorns but only if no one in our group will get caught in it.)

(OOC:  My pleasure, and the next target will be through the door into the room, so party is clear.)

Wil attacks the Cultist that just walked through the door, casting Hail of Thorns with it.

Attack: 13 Damage: 11

(I figured you'd handle the spell saves (Dex for 1/2) and damage (1d10)?)

The next cultist takes an arrow to the chest just as the one in front of him was collapsing into him.  The thorns continue onward to strike the next masked man, but only a glancing blow, dealing half of 8.

Recap:  There are two cultists visible, 1 wounded, 1 not, and a torch carried behind them by a still unseen hand.  (Just out of LOS, not invisible, that you know of anyway.)

(OOC: Are the unseen cultists within 5ft of the cultist that Wil just attacked? "In addition to the normal effect of the attack, the target of the attack and each creature within 5 feet of it must make a Dexterity saving throw." Doesn't say anything about being within sight or not. Not trying to be troublesome, just accurate :D.)

(OOC:  They are travelling single file, so spell would effect target, one in front and one behind, but you already killed the target and the one in front....)

(Got it, thought they might have been walking and talking in a tight group like a bunch of school girls..... :D)

Dex save. (Barnabus is right next to the door.)17

 As the cultists burst through the door Barnabus checks his readied swing so as to not risk catching the charging Kina by mistake. He ducks low to avoid her staff, righting himself just in time to see bear Cade grow another against the wall. The dwarf is about to seize his moment as Cade clears the way when suddenly an arrow whizes by followed by a hail of thorns. Barnabus tries to step back in time to avoid the little prickly bits but is only successful in protecting his eyes. Several thorns imbed themselves in his cheek. Barnabus grits his teeth against the stings of pain as he opens his eyes to find a cultist trying to step over his fallen comrade. Finally seeing his opening, Barnabus' brings Fife around in a giant sweeping two handed swig aimed for the knees of the stumbling cultist.

Attack: 22 Damage: 7 

The arc of the axe ends with the experienced fighters hands inches from his shield. A flick of the wrist and the warrior snatches up the shield as he recoils into a defensive stance.

(I thought you were clear of the group  Barnabus, would not have used the spell otherwise.)

Barnabus steps around the corner and swings, expecting them to charge in response to the assault, but there is no one there for Fife to meet.  Glancing at the three figures still standing, the slow reactions belie the disbelief that is clearly written across the last, unmasked figures face.  The shock fades quickly as the cultists draw their weapons, and the leader(?) calls for them to attack.

(OOC:  the spell has a detonation point, so no damage to him, just flavor)
