Silthras nods, "Agreed! To the manor, the outpost and then the mine."
He glances around the room, "No time like the present" he says as he gathers his belongings. "We need to be back before nightfall, after all, unless we find shelter nearer the mine."
"As well as we can, we should try to move unseen through the town." Velyra says, adjusting the straps on her shield in preparation. "We can easily outrun the undead, but it would be nice to not have to worry about that."
As everyone makes their preparations, Silthras goes to speak with Tully. "We are about to head to the mines...and I'm told you used to work in them. Is there anything you can tell us about their layout, safe places we might spend a night, or ... anything else? Perhaps where we might find a map? Also...I'm told Arthur Cartwright said one of the miners came back 'not right in the head'...do you know anything ebout that?"
The man looks up from his playing cards as Silthras approaches, a confused look on his face. He's a little on the heftier side, with freckles sprinkling across his face and green eyes. Although you can tell he's lost weight in recent weeks, and he has tired dark circles under his eyes. "You're going to the mines?" He asks incredulously. "Yeah you're funny." He says, laughing nervously. Going back to play another round of cards, he glances to the side in the middle of it to see you still there. He drops the cards and turns to face you in his chair. "You can't be serious, you actually want to go down there?"
Shaking his head, he begins answering your questions from the top. "The mine is multi-leveled. On ground level when you go in, you're gonna see a big damn hole in the floor with a crane above. Don't fall down, just follow the ramp down the perimeter of it to get to the level you want to go. There is no where safe in that area. You try to spend an overnight there and you're dead."
"A map? Yeah we had one from time to time. Never quite sure where the foreman kept it though."
At the mention of the other miner, Tully looks saddened for a moment. "Ah, that was Gurney. Good friend." After a sigh, he goes on. "He found some narrow passageway on the bottom floor of the mine, said he wanted to check it out. When he came back, he was screaming about the dark, but he had his torch with him the whole time...I think being underground so much just gets to people sometimes."
"I'll be waiting upstairs. Once he's finished gathering more information we should get going." Kal says, gesturing at Silthras. Afterwards, he'll head upstairs and to the room they came through last night. While waiting, he'll peak out the window to see how many of the undead are wandering around outside.
Silthras listens intently to the miners words then nods, "Thank you, friend. I think we will take your advice and try to return this evening -- or find a safe place outside the mine. One more thing -- do you by any chance know what befell Arthur Cartwright?"
((If no one has anything else to do we'll move on))
Tully nods, mumbling something about good luck before going back to the card game. Silthras rejoins Velyra and Usul, and the trio goes upstairs to find Kal already scoping out the area. Outside the inn, he would see large groups of undead peppered throughout the area, gathering in groups of three or four. The immediate perimeter of the southern wall of the inn is clear, but you can see that finding a path forward unnoticed will be difficult.
The rope lies coiled on the floor beneath the window, ready for use.
As the rest of the group comes into the room, Kal sighs and steps away from the window. "It doesn't look great out there, we may find it hard to sneak through. I say we try, and if we get caught just make a break for it." He looks to the gnome, "Usul, do you think you could lead us? This seems to be your area of expertise."
"If needed, I have a spell that can provide us some cover whenever we need it." Velyra says, ready to drop down from the window whenever the others are. "I can either give us 40 feet or 80 feet of fog, depending on what we need."
If there's a conceivable area where casting Fog Cloud will get them to cover(buildings, bushes, or whatever), Velyra will cast it while they travel through the town.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the discussions are taking place, Usul would find any children in the Inn and bring them to Muad. Seemingly procuring a silver coin for each out of thin air, he says “This is Muad. He is very friendly. Please take care of him for us while we’re out.” Giving the dog some extra head scratches he goes to join the group.
Usul smiles when asked to lead, knowing that quiet is one thing at which he excels. Looking out the window and preparing the rope he says “Follow us and try to match our foot falls. We should try to stay as close to the buildings as possible while we all walk, only going into the open when we tell you it’s safe.” When the others are ready, he goes down the rope and immediately hides down beside a wall as his red weasel comes out and perches on his shoulder, immediately sniffing the air.

Silthras considers the buildings, "Do you think we could make most of the journey on the rooftops?" he asks.
((Use my rolls and things for stealth above once we actually start...))
”That is not a bad idea.” Usul says. “We did a bit of that yesterday actually.” then waving his hand in the air another, mostly transparent, hand appears nearby ((mage hand but visible this time)). Usul then directs the hand to the rope where it takes it and moves it around. “We can take a rope and tie it to the next building easy enough as well.”
"Tying off a rope with one hand might be difficult, but if the buildings are not too tall perhaps we can loop it around a chimney, and then back to the ground...or even between buildings and across alleys, so we don't need to drop down..."
The four of you use the same rope from yesterday to descend from the window, dropping the final few feet to the ground and crouching behind the bushes growing along the outside wall of the inn. Roughly 45 feet to the south is the road leading east to west - on the opposite side of it are the small, hatch-roofed buildings that make up residences for most folk in this town. Here, they're spaced too far to go from rooftop to rooftop easily, but they do provide enough cover to move between them. Velyra casts Fog Cloud(1st level) centered on the road. A wispy cloud-like sphere condenses from the air, shrouding the road and some of the surrounding ground in a dense fog. While the undead may notice the cloud, it's nothing that registers as "interesting(food)" to them. The party waits for a moment when the undead in close proximity are turned away, then dart into the cloud, emerging on the other side of the road into the wide alleyway-like spaces between the residences.
Heading west through the town, with Usul carefully guiding the party from cover to cover, and distracting undead with well placed illusions, the party eventually finds at a T intersection near the outskirts of town. Off the main road, a narrower path leads south. Strangely enough, there seems to be more undead than expected on the road, considering it's so near the outer rim of the town(you've noticed that the undead are concentrated at the town center). The buildings are packed closer together here however, close enough to move across the tops of. Far down in the distance, after the buildings have thinned out once more, you see a large manor-like residence residing on the top of a hill. A wrought iron fence surrounds the perimeter of the manor's land, but even from here you can see the gate is wide open.
Usul's mage hand carries the rope up to the nearest residence, tying a simple loop around a chimney sticking from the top. The rope is still knotted from the gnome's efforts yesterday, making the climb trivial. The rooftops are low enough that your group has to crouch low to avoid being seen by the undead on the road just below, making the journey from here slower. You're able to see the tops of their heads, and count off almost a dozen of the lumbering zombies on the road south as you pass them.
Eventually, the buildings are placed further and further apart, forcing you back onto the ground. You move forward, and eventually yourselves crouched behind a low stone wall attached to one of the last buildings on the road. The manor property's gate is still about 80 feet down the road, with little more than open field between you and it. Two undead shuffle in circles around each other on the road, with four more in the fields on either side of the road. Squinting his eyes, Usul is able to make out more undead dragging along just outside the manor.
Silthras stares at the scene, trying to assess the undead numbers and behaviour. They have congregated near food before, but otherwise seem to wander aimlessly, it seems.
In hushed tones he addresses his companions, "Do you think it looks like they are circling food, or just wandering?"
(( He will offer Help to anyone trying to make the assessment, by sharing relevant knowledge he gained watching them carefully the prior night. ))

Silthras places a hand on the man's shoulder, "Well, we will find him, or avenge him, or both. In the mean time, keep this place safe for our return!"
He turns around looking for his other companions, then goes to fetch Kal, ready to depart.
