“Well this isn’t very exciting,” Usul says leaning back from the chest. “Is there anything else to look through here? We should not waste time.” Dib, all the while, is perched on Usul’s head keeping his nose out ((passive 18)) for any smell of death that may return.

"Well I suppose it couldn't all be shiny things. I suppose it makes sense to find something like, the Redvales had to have made their money somehow. Merchants of some kind perhaps?"Kal shakes his head, realizing it isn't really a mystery worth discussing. "Right. Nothing else in here I don't think."
"We do need to speed things up." The knight throws open the door to the west, taking a quick glance inside to see if there's anything moving or that could move. If not, he retreats back towards the common area they first arrived at on the second floor, waiting to see if his companions are ready to follow before moving onto the other doors on this floor.
The door swings open, revealing a bedroom half destroyed on the western side. The west wall is entirely collapsed, and the roof partially caved in. From the edge, you can see down into the destroyed rooms of the first floor. Sunlight fills the room easily, shining on a medium sized bed covered in light blue linens, sitting atop a red silk carpet with gold threaded designs. A small chest with no lock sits next to the head of the bed, and a wardrobe on the south wall.
Kal sweeps the room with his gaze quickly, and sees nothing that could threaten them.
The party moves quickly, but vigilantly through the second floor of the manor, finding no living or undead in any of the rooms they breach. They discover the following zones:
The door directly south leads to an outdoor deck. The south side of the deck is shaded by an awning, with a few small tables and sitting chairs lining the wall. Along the western edge, the awning has been partially damaged and collapsed. Another door on the deck leads into the room you encountered that ghastly creature, and another into a small room(5).
This room is a large office space. A fireplace is nestled in the corner, with an elaborate golden rug sitting in front of it. A large desk with shelves and a chest behind it dominate the room, with a smaller desk hidden in an alcove created by a bookshelf on the south western corner. A door leads to the west(3).
Perhaps the smallest structurally sound bedroom you've found in the manner so far. The curtains, bed linens, and carpet are all made up of bright yellows, and the walls are lined with painted portraits of gorgeous flower filled fields. There is a small endtable next to the bed, a wardrobe, and a desk with a mirror and several small boxes on it.
This room is among the larger in the manor, and appears to be a sort of game room, complete with its own bar. You can see barrels on the wall, and behind the bar bottles of liquor line the shelf. It also contains a fireplace and comfortable furniture, as well as several felt topped tables with dice and playing cards spread across them. A piano sits in the corner of the room, with a piece of sheet music sitting on the bench.
A smaller room, mostly destroyed by the fire that brought about ruin to the manor years ago. A small table with two candles sitting on it occupy the east wall, and a cabinet with various figurines on the north wall. There is a door leading to the northwestern corner bedroom.
With a brief investigation of the second floor completed, the party heads cautiously back down the stairs, through the dining room and into the collapsed room with the downward staircase. The creature is no where in sight, and looking down at the dimly lit bottom of the staircase, you can see door you came across earlier still closed, though shrouded in shadow.
As a reminder for the door:
The door is a heavy one, made of iron that has slightly , two different keyholes rest above the handle.

“Did that creature really take the time to lock the door behind it?” Usul says, thinking back to what he saw through Dib’s eyes ((did it definitely go down this way?)). He then looks carefully at the locks and door with Silthras’ help, and Velra’s guidance ((8)), before attempting to pick the locks ((assuming everything is safe, and he is sure that the creature went this way)), showing Silthras his technique, while always happy to learn more ((21)).
Thinking back, Usul definitely saw the creature go down these stairs. But strangely enough, he doesn't recall hearing the sounds the iron door being unlocked or opened.
Along with Silthras, the gnome gives the door a close look over. Before Usul goes to pick the lock, Silthras taps him on the shoulder, pointing to faint lines in the iron door. Some of the "rust" lines actually appears to be drawn in a faint pattern, very similar to the glyphs from the corpse in the bathroom.
((you haven't started picking the lock yet. Do you want to continue with that action?))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the lines on the door Usul quietly gasps, and then holds his breath, careful not to disturb anything. He then gestures for everyone to back up. Once they are about 30 feet from the door he casts a, visible, mage hand and hands it his tools, saying, “Should we try to open the door from here?”If the others agree, he’ll use his magical hand to try to open the door ((15 - no adv since no one could help from this distance))
"Hmmm...When something passes through a wall without opening it, one must suspect an illusion of some kind...either it did not really go this way, or the door is an illusion..."
Silthras will help Usul investigate, if he wants to...
"Perhaps stand back, ank poke it with a stick?" (mage hand)
Backing up to the top of the stairs, the party gathers around as Usul sends his thieves tools floating down the staircase. It fiddles with the lock for a minute that feels like an eternity, until a satisfying click echoes up the steps. Slowly, the tools lower to the second of the locks. This one takes even longer to get through, as Usul struggles for a full five minutes to get through it. click. Suddenly, there is a blinding flash of light, and concussive boom as the runes on the door explode. The flames scorch the wooden steps, but your group is able to move around the corners quickly enough to avoid the blast.
With a slow and high-pitched creak, the iron door swings open into darkness.
((Those with darkvision would see dark gray stone tiles of the basement floor, soaked by puddles of blood)).
“Well... it’s open. Though now everyone around knows we’re here.”Usul says, looking behind them scanning the area, Dib on his head sniffing, still very nervous about the creature that seemingly went down these stairs and through the door without opening it, or setting off the trap.
Silthras moves cautiously down the stairs and peers around the edge of the door into the darkness (he does not go past the doorway). Are there footprints in the puddles? (( Silthras can see in darkness like daylight to 120' -- dim light is another matter.. ))
As Silthras reaches the bottom of the stairs, he would see no footprints in the puddles of blood. Littering the floor of the basement are at least a dozen corpses. Some fresh, and some decayed down to the bones. On either side of the stairs are wooden slats forming makeshift rooms in the basement, on both the north and south sides. Both doors are closed, but have no locks on them. Straight ahead, at the back of the basement, the half-elf is given pause.
Encircled in an intricate pattern on the floor is the same eight-pointed sun symbol present on the pommel of the shortsword found upstairs. A large central statue of a figure in robes occupies the center of the symbol, though its head has been defaced, sitting in a pile of rubble next to the base of the statue. On each of the points of the star is another, smaller statue of eight humanoid beings dressed in a variety of outfits. They face the central statue, heads bowed in a position of almost reverence. Blood splatters on some of the statues, leaking down to the sun symbol on the floor.
In the corner of the basement is a circular raised platform...A well of bubbling black liquid contained in the center of it. Glowing purple arcane runes surround this platform, pulsating in sync with the bubbling of the liquid.

Assuming he and Velyra have finished with the room, Silthras nods and follows along with Kal.
If Velyra also follows he continues to Help her with investigations and searches.

If Usul wants to look for traps and pick locks (if neceesary), then Silthras will help.
Before he goes downstairs to inspect the door and get to work on the locks, Velyra will guide Usul. "Be careful down there."
"It's a shame the door is iron. I've half a mind to simply finish burning this place to the ground."
