Barthrum lets Dolgrim and Thenmer past himself and goes back to invite the rest of the dwarves in, "Looks safe and like a bedchamber. Come and take a look."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Dolgrim looks for hidden doors, the dwarves come in. "That's how you searched for hidden doors?" "No wonder you didn't find any. Let us show you how it's done." 22
The dwarves methodically search the room, but to no avail. "Well, it seems to be all for now." "I think you earned these." They take out their Sending Stones and present it to you. "Unless we missed something... it seems to be all of it." "I truly hope there are no more monsters, but it's disappointing that this is all this temple holds. I was really excited when we found it..."
Barthrum says, "Well, how about this - we'll stick around for half the day while you do your stuff and we take a look around outside to see if the dragon has returned."
He hands the shovel back to Dis, "Thank you miss."
He bows and says, "Just run outside if there is anything dangerous going on in there and we'll figure it out together."
"I am glad that this is sorted. I hope no more of those things creep their way in."
"Well we have helped with your problem and warned you of the dragon. I think we should see what time of day it is and whether we can make it back before dark. I would not want to be out at night, things just seem dangerous at the moment"
When you go outside, you see that it's late morning, but still morning. If you leave now, you'll probably reach Phandalin at late after-noon. Suddenly, you see three orcs approaching. They speak between them in Orc, and Dolgrim manages to understand a few sentences: "... dwarves here?" "Seems so." "If they're here, then there must be something here. Maybe a place for the clan." "Indeed, we'll deal with them quickly and check." Then, they take out their weapons and charge at you. They're about 50 ft. from you now.
Initiative:
Orc 1: 13
Orc 2: 19
Orc 3: 21
Thenmer: 14
Barthrum: 16
Dolgrim: 19
(In case one of the orcs goes first, I'll make the turn in ~2 hours, sorry!)
(Sorry for this delay. I thought I would have time to add the Orcs' turns if they came up first, but I miscalculated...)
The canyon you're in is ~20 ft. wide. Near the canyon's walls lie some boulders, ranging in size from about a cubic foot to ones larger than yourselves. Since you're outside, the place is lit with bright sunlight. At the start of this round, the orcs are 50 ft. from Dolgrim and Barthrum. Thenmer is 10 ft. behind the others.
Orc 3 draws a large javelin. He runs forward to gain momentum and throws it forward at Barthrum. Attack: 9 Damage: 4 Orc 2 throws his javelin on the ground and then runs forward. He runs at great speed and takes out a huge axe while running. He makes it all the way to you and swings his axe at Dolgrim. Attack: 7 Damage: 8

(Thenmer next?)
Thenmer sees the Orcs approach and tries to calculate a trajectory, seeking out the angles that he needs in his mind even in the moving scene. He picks out a rock in line with the Orc which threw the javelin and the one which was just starting to move. Calling forth all his will, muttering words of power to focus and direct it, he commands a rock to fly out along this line. Hoping to catch one or the other with its force.
(OK catapult spell in a line which includes two orcs. I'm a bit confused on the initiative which orc is which as apparently orc 1 has acted but it looked like it has really bad initiative. So basically the orc which threw the javelin and the one that has not yet acted (in that order) take saves and hopefully one of them fails DC13 Dex for damage 11 )
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Sorry, it seems like I made a mistake there. I edited the post above to match initiative order. Also, sorry, but you can't hit both of the orcs with your catapult. They're standing a few feet from each other but side-by-side, so a line won't be able to hit both.)
15
The orc who threw the javelin gets hit by your rock flat in the chest and stumbles back, but manages to keep himself standing. The last orc also drops his javelin and charges forward at Dolgrim and Thenmer. He takes out a giant axe like the other orc's and swings it at Dolgrim.
Attack: 19 Damage: 4
Barthrum sees the orc and uses his shield to deflect the attack away from Dolgrim! In response, the first orc attacks him.
Attack: 17 Damage: 12
The axe swings wide but Barthrum is too slow to use his shield again and the axe hits his side.
(Sorry, I messed up the initiative order here, but it shouldn't matter in this case.) Javelin orc picks one of the dropped javelins down and running a little forward, he throws it at the dwarf who hit him earlier! Then, he runs back and picks up the other javelin.
Attack: 8 Damage: 4
The javelin flies straight and hits Thenmer in his shoulder. The pain wakes Thenmer up. He can't be making complicated calculations during battle, the battle is full of constantly changing variables! It's not an orderly exchange of blows! Suddenly, he feels something strange inside him. It's like... a world of order and law. A place where everything is rational and sensible. Predictable. He's able to draw energy from this world. Energy that can power his magical powers!
(Congradulations! You're now level 2! You can update accordingly, but remember you don't learn your new spell yet. The spell slots and font of magic are free to use though!)
He's still thinking about the Shovel Girl and doesn't work too well.
He focuses on the fight at hand and recalls his dream of power, screaming out, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" and his extreme self-confidence manifests as a shimmering aura extending out from his shield (cast Shield of Faith on himself for +2 AC).

(With Catapult spell the line of attack does not originate from the caster but from any loose object within range. You described plenty of rocks by the road-side.
"Choose one object weighing 1 to 5 pounds within range that isn’t being worn or carried. The object flies in a straight line up to 90 feet in a direction you choose before falling to the ground, stopping early if it impacts against a solid surface."
So I chose a loose rock within 60' that was in a line with two orcs and catapulted that. Which is what Thenmer will do again with his new spell slot :) )
Reality might think itself too complex for his calculations and triangulations but Thenmer felt inspired, inspired to defy these petty limitation on his will. He would understand and master reality in all its complexity.
He sees the Orcs, he sees many rocks and his mind picks out another rock to sling. With his new-found inspiration he chooses a rock and he wills it into motion, the arcane cog-wheels spin strongly around his head as he chants the words and gestures to the rock. It flies through the air in a line toward two of the Orcs.
(Targeting the two Orcs other than the one which is engaged with Barthrum, which order they make saves is entirely up to you and it stops if one of them fails a save and takes the damage. Damage 15 )
Seeing how the orc deflects his blow, Dolgrim's rage is even stronger. Dolgrim swings his hammer again ((Attacking the closest orc, ideally the same one as before))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Ah, I see. You're right, but first orc failed his save anyway. This time, however, two of the orcs are near your allies. If both the javelin orc and another pass the save, either Barthrum or Dolgrim will have to make the save too. Dolgrim, Barthrum and the two orcs are all within 5 ft. of all others, so if we were playing on a grid, they would occupy a square of 20 ft. together.)
After being hit by the axe, the pain is strong and as he's twisting his body to strike, the wound sends a wave of pain through him that causes the attack to miss.
Javelin Orc save: 15
Orc 1's save: 5
As the rock flies, both the orcs manage to avoid it, but it keeps flying!
Dolgrim' save: 13
Dolgrim manages to avoid the rock as well, and it flies a bit more before eventually falling to the ground. Dolgrim then uses the confusion caused by Thenmer's distraction to smash his hammer at the side of the orc in front of him!
The orc, enraged, makes another swing at Dolgrim, which Barthrum tries to block once again! Attack: 6 Damage: 8 Indeed, Barthrum manages to block the attack.
The orc with the javelin picks up the last one and, running forward, throws it at Thenmer once again! Attack: 17 Damage: 9 The javelin hits Thenmer in the other shoulder. It hurts a lot, but Thenmer is still conscious.
Seeing Barthrum blocking again, the orc hopes to hit him again and swings his mighty axe! Attack: 18 Damage: 8 This time, his faith is enough to protect him as he just ducks below the swing. Good thing the orc was swinging high.
After ducking below the orc's attack, Barthrum thrusts his sword upwards. As the blade moves towards the orc, it begins to glow with a red sheen. As the blade held high for a moment, the red glow shines strong for a moment and then disappears. A long, deep scar is now featured on the orc's body going all the way from his left theigh to his right shoulder. It screems in pain, but doesn't fall just yet.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing that they were now closely engaged Thenmer knew that his more powerful magics would be a danger to his friends. Stepping up near Barthrum he reached forward with his hand, as he willed it sparks of blue-white electricity began to leap from his fingers towards the Orc he was fighting.
As he did so he felt a new source of power within him, replenishing him
"Perhaps I have some magic left after all"
(Cast shocking grasp. If they have metal armor I get advantage but I'm guessing they do not. To hit 18 damage 8
Then bonus action to replenish my level 1 spell slot using my sorcery points)

Or, Dolgrim interjects, you can keep one of the stones for now, and contact us using them.
"Ah, that's a good plan." He hands you one of the stones.
(Does Thenmer wants to do something before you head outside?)

Thenmer tried to hang back to give himself room to work his little bit of remaining magical power.
"I will do what I can lads but it may not be much"

By my beard, You're all going down.
Shouts he and attacks the nearest orc with his hammer.
