(We're expecting the place to be inhabited, but we don't expect to be expected. We may want to try the front entry if we have approached from cover. But if we've been out in the open we may have been spotted and a courtyard surrounded by arrow slits sounds like a terrible place to meet an ambush.)

It's on a rise in a thick forest that has grown up around the castle since it was abandoned. By the look of it quite a long time ago. If you scout the outside of the castle the only other possible way in is a postern gate on the south side. The front door looks like
If there are people standing watch here it would be through the arrow slits. Grond has a suggestion "If our sneakiest person drank the Potion of Invisibility they could check the arrow slits and the entrance hall."
"Could we use the trees to get onto the walls?" wonders Gijigume.
You could but I'll invoke the "In PbP games don't let players do things that aren't going to work and would takes days of wasted time" rule. You can tell from looking that the upper stories have long collapsed and there is no way in from there.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(I'm shocked that the more dexterous characters aren't proficient in stealth.)
Fah'lin agrees to take the potion and slip in to scout things out. (Stealth: 5, Perception: 18)
(I don't hear them, they don't hear me.)
(The heavy armor characters always stomp around and blow the stealth for the whole party. I took medium armor and stealth proficiency so the monk could sneak around better...)

You don't need a perception roll to see that behind each arrow slit is a room and in each room is an orc 'guarding' the approaches to the front door. As happens with chaotic creatures they got bored and aren't really paying attention.

Before we make an approach Thar suggests "For any who could benefit I'll use Mage Armor from the staff. Every little bit may help." He will use in on himself to start.
Fah'lin won't be slipping in and tying anyone's shoe laces together. He'll return to the party and relay the information. If anyone wants to Molotov one of these rooms we can. But here's Fah'lin's plan: "These potions only last about an hour. I'll go inside and knock on both doors. When I signal the party rushes in the unguarded gate. To get the drop on a bewildered pair of orcs. Meanwhile, I'll head a little deeper to get some more Intel." The signal will be a local song bird's call on his flute.
"If at all possible maybe someone could be out here and shot through the slit during the battle just peaking it so they themselves would avoid getting shot"

Grond "You're checking the other rooms before you knock on the guard doors? You do have an hour after all."

Grond looks at the arrow slits "If we wait just to the west of the steps I don't think anyone could see us through those slits."
