Busren, you don't find any valuables inside the basilisk's remains.
"Oh man.... thanks.... yeah we can't go into this place smelling like that! They're probably used to the fish smells, and I betcha they'd tell the difference between that nasty and this nasty in a heartbeat!"
You head back to #13, the Snapping Line Inn. It is basically in the middle of the village, and at this time of the evening the atmosphere is pretty lively. There are a few horse stalls and a nice section of land behind the inn where you can store the carriage. It is guarded by what seems like employees of the inn as they are not in the garbs that the guys at the gates were in. Although there are also those types of guards walking the streets on this evening as well, so you feel safe leaving the carriage and horses. "Rest up Betty, we be going riding tomorrow, girl!"
Upon entering, you see that this place is in fact very busy. The place is built from the planks and hulls of what looks like old fishing ships. Its decor is predictably nautical in theme, and its sleeping rooms look like renditions of a ship’s cabins! You see what you think are sailors and fishers eating, drinking, talking and enjoying the entertainment as an elf plays a lute on what looks like a performance stage.
The place is busy enough for you guys to not get too noticed, but you find when people start to see Busren, some of them start to whisper amongst themselves and you hear things like "here comes trouble" and "look at its face!" and "shite maybe we should just leave" etc. etc. No one is overtly violent towards you though and no one approaches you guys other than the server. He is a tall elf, and he only looks at Korrik and Ess.
"Evening, gents! Can I get you a table for the evening?
(this server is not a key NPC and therefore no images will be added)
Ben ignores the small town spork he has put up with his entire life and clears his throat to get the servers attention,
"Hello there! I was wondering if you needed some additional entertainment for the night? I'm bard of some skill. Is there someone I should speak with...?"
((Huh, that elf server looks almost exactly like the elf server at the Driftwood, they're just wearing a green tunic instead of a blue one... :P ))
"Maybe we should get a table and some food and drink first, eh Ben?"
"Yeah, we'll take a table, got any specials tonight?"
((Why no, Korrik's not at all apprehensive about Ben playing as... enthusiastically as he's heard him play so far and wearing out their welcome before he gets his dinner... not worried about that at all...))

Busren, the elf waiter kind of steps back when you clear your throat. He might have even jumped a bit. He then says: "You... you're a bard? Um, pardon me. Yes. Yes, I can go get the owner and you can ask her. I will be right back."
The elf doesn't even wait to take anyone else's order, or to even get anyone's name, he just leaves immediately and a few minutes later the humble looking NPC named Hanna Rist on the NPC tab comes over and greets you.
"Welcome to the Snapping Line, gentleman. First off, I must apologize for Brett, the person who greeted you. He came storming in my office all in a huff about a tiefling inside. *sigh* I grow tired of such closed minded folk. How he got on payroll is beyond me. Remind me to fire him! Alas, I've said too much. I am Hanna, the owner of this fine establishment. What may your names be? I understand you (points at Ben) are the bard, yes? Well, this should be very interesting, as you might imagine given how Brett reacted to you."
She's likely yelling as it's pretty loud in here, and she'd go into the normal pleasantries as well, exchanging names, explaining why you are in town, her saying she haven't seen any of you around before, etc. etc.
"I have one open spot in an hour that you can pick up. I warn you though, the tiefling thing is real around here. Folk are... afraid. They are... ignorant. You best be picking a set that you feel might be best suited to these kind of folk given who you are or it may not go well. Now now, not to worry, I've got the place locked and loaded with muscle should things get rowdy. And I hired them myself. I trust them. But don't worry. You'll be fine. It will be fine."
"Since you're new here and I really don't know what I'm getting myself into here, I'll say you can have the tips from the hour or so you'll get on stage. I can't put you on the payroll, obviously. You can have what you make though in tips."
"In the meantime, what can I have Brett bring back to you? I'll ensure he apologizes to you as well."
(let me know what name Ben will use with Hanna! Also, Ben, due to the overarching views about tieflings that the locals have, natural 20's and 1's will have more intense consequences should they be rolled vs. say in a place like the bean. Maybe even 2's and 19's. Also, you will have to strategically plan your set based on your knowledge that the folk for the most part are afraid/intimated/ignorant about tieflings, and you are now going to try and get on a stage and perform in front of them.)
Ess says "I'll take whatever the special is! Oh, and beers all around! Big ones!" Huge smile on his face. (-5 sp for his meal, and he buys 3 mugs of beer, -12cp. These have been removed from Ess's sheet. He should still have enough for a room tonight.)
If one of you doesn't drink or doesn't like beer, he will drink it.
"Lobster's the special? Been a while since I've had lobster! I'll take two!", Korrik says, beaming.
"Oh, and... Brett was it?"
He takes the server aside, keeping a smile on his face the whole time as he has a quite chat with him.
"I've worked in kitchens up and down the coast, so I know the sort of things that sometimes happen... accidentally, of course, when one of the cooks or servers feels a bit slighted or upset by a customer. If anything like that were to happen... accidentally, and our beers come to the table with anything floating in them, or spit on the foam, or our lobster gets dropped in the dirt, or there's pubes in the melted butter, or any of those other little mishaps that might happen... well, I'd be very, very disappointed. We're here to have a nice evening, a good meal, some beverages, and if everything is up to my standards, there's an extra couple silver in it for you. I do very much hope we can avoid any misunderstandings, don't you Brett?"

((Ugh. Can you prestidigitate food clean? Really don't want Ben drinking spit.))
"Hello Hanna! My name is Ben and don't worry about it, I'm used to it. Glad you're running the place instead of him though! I'll take the hour slot, I've played sea side taverns before and I will keep it to the tried and true!"
To Ess,
"Thanks for the beer, but I will need a clear head before. After, if it goes well, I will get you another. If it goes poorly I'll get you two."
Korrik, Brett the server after being talked to by Hanna and now also with you heeding your warning along with the silver offering, kind of looks a bit defeated as he now starts to look more at Busren, and then back to Korrik"ahem. Alright. Yes. I hope that too."he says this under his breath as well since this type of thing would likely get him in trouble (taking the extra money) even though it might be for a good cause.
((Yep no rush on the performance - I think that will be the next step here though.))
The food would arrive along with the drinks, and they don't seem to be tampered with. Brett would look at Korrik when he brings the food and drink and say "Here you go guys. I am sure this will be up to your standards." he half-smiles at Korrik. "Enjoy, gents." then he leaves.
Ben, Hanna responds "Nice to meet you, Ben. hahaha, alright then. Once Misty the gnome finishes her set, you'll be up next. You'll likely have time to eat before, so go and have a bite and a drink. Might help a bit!"she leaves and tends to other business as this place is very busy right now.
Ess is just loving it - he digs into the food and drinks, nods his head to the music, and talks about the basilisk fight.
Anyone can roll a perception check this evening to see if there is any interesting conversations going on via eavesdrop. It's loud in here though, so this will be difficult. Ess is too engaged in the food and entertainment though to make this check.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Korrik nods his thanks to their server, and raises a glass to Ess. He's enjoying his lobster, forgoing any provided tools and giving it a sharp rap with his knuckles as needed. Mostly just enjoying his evening.
Ben listens intently to Misty, while also checking her out, and gauges how the crowd is reacting to her.
He eats lightly and as Misty steps off he steps up. He looks over the crowd and lifts his hands up in front of him saying, applified us thaumaturgery if needed,
"I know, I know! A tiefling, aren't they nothing but trouble? What is he up to?"
He pulls his lute of his back and continues,
"Well let me just say, no! We not just trouble we're fun as well! As to what I'm up to? Well I'm going to play you some of my favorites tonight... which reminds me. You hear the story about the big horned tiefling eating grass?"
He waits a beat then says,
"It's bull!"
Before the inevitable peels of laughter can subside Ben plays a set of country comedies following the misadventures of a hapless halfling turned troll and eventually dragon slayer. He ends on a classic sailing tale where the sailors bravely defeat pirates, sea monsters and a goddess of the sea to return home wealthy.
He finishes and looks out to see how things landed before stepping off the stage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Korrik, you wouldn't hear anything really of interest other than people talking about the performances and their recent catches of the week out at sea. Ess says "wow, you're good at that!" (referring to cracking the lobster with his hand) Ess decides not to try it and sticks with the utensils.
Ben, Misty the gnome was singing some typical fisherman's songs and playing a lute, she was kind of making a safe play, but given the atmosphere it was working for her as the patrons seemed to love it.
Misty kind of walks awkwardly far from you as she comes off the stage as you head up and do your thing!
As you might've expected, the crowd was hesitant when they first saw you. You heard the same kinds of whispers as when you entered the place, and it was more obvious now that you could see basically everyone when you were on the stage. The whispers stopped eventually though, and they turned to laughter as the crowd reacts positively to your jokes as well as to your country comedies that you follow up with. The ending is also solid with a familiar sailing song that most of them know, and by the end over half of the patrons were standing up dancing and enjoying the performance overall.
Ben, as you step off the stage, a lot more people are looking at you with kind of a relieved, happy look. You hear some whispers "wow!""he's not scary at all!""i wonder where he's from!?" but you don't hear anything more than that type of stuff.
Hanna would also eventually catch up with you and say "Ben! Well done! I must admit I was worried for a moment and second guessed my decision. I am glad I was wrong! We need more of this type of thing to help with the unfortunate inherent racism that comes from a small village like this where most of the locals haven't been far outside of the village limits in their entire lives and have had no interaction with races other than the ones common to here. So, thank you, Ben. You can likely play here again should you desire. Anyhow, go enjoy yourself!"
After you guys eat, will you want to sleep here as well? It is busy, but there will be 3 of those cool looking rooms that look like ships cabins available. They are quite private and will be suitable locations for a long rest and a level up to 3! Happy to continue to RP in here though before bed, either at the table you're all at or if you want to perhaps talk to the locals after Ben's performance. I am happy to do either or.
I would say the cost for the stay is 8sp (comfortable level). I removed that amount from Ess's sheet.
Korrik's having a good time, somewhat pleasantly surprised by Ben's performance. He does a troll impression for Ess at the appropriate part of Ben's story. Having been around plenty of sailors and sailor dive bars, he's well familiar with the last song, thumping his staff on the floor to the beat. As Ben finishes, he's standing on his chair, cheering and applauding.
"Hey man, that was GREAT!"
((Provided nothing else occurs that warrants more detailed interaction.))
Korrik spends the rest of dinner enjoying himself, if Ess is drinking, Korrik will keep a mug in front of him to keep him (and Ben?) company, but isn't trying to keep pace. As their meal wraps up, he'll flag Brett down leaving a silver under his empty mug for him and ask. "What are the chances I'd be able to get a hot bath around here? Like to soak off some of the travel dirt and soreness."
He'll also procure a room for himself, warmly wish the other two a good night, and take his stuff up.
((Previously deducted 1gp for dinner, took off 8sp for room, and 12cp for buying a round of beers.))
Ess has enough beer to get happy, but not enough to have to roll a CON save for a hangover the next morning. This is his first night away from Neverwinter after all, and so he did indulge a bit. I've taken away 4cp for 1 more mug for him. That'll be 3 in total. He would've told the story of when he got bit by the wererat, and just repeating that he is so happy to be here with the two of you guys.
Korrik, Brett says "ahem, thank you. I appreciate it. I trust you found the meal to your standards? I assure you, no one did anything. Besides, I heard he crushed his performance. Wish I could've seen it, it's so damn busy in here!"Brett has lightened up a lot now since before. "Sir, each of the rooms has a barrel for a bath if you'd like! I'll ensure some boiling water is brought to your door, just let someone know once you retire for the evening."
"It was excellent, thank you giving it your attention, I know how busy it can get during the rush! If we're around for a while, I'm sure he'll play again. When I head up, I'll do that. Oh, do the rooms have candles? If not, I'll ask when I follow up on that bath. Thanks again."
Korrik sits back, pleased that he played a small part in helping Ben change a few opinions of tieflings... at least for one night.
((Korrik's just in a holding pattern in case Ben/Rod wants any interaction, then he'll head up to his room.))
((Ben would cover the cost of Ess's next beer, as promised! Is carriage and horse care included in the cost?))
"Thanks boys! Told you I knew what I was doing."
To Hanna,
"Thank you for giving me the chance! It only takes one open mind to change attitudes. I'd love to play here again. Maybe tomorrow night? Or the night after."
He bows to her and gives her a charming smile.
After he eats he'll head up to his room and practices a few new melodies then practice his most trustworthy smiles in the mirror.
((good point about the horse care. The stable and carriage storage is included in the price of the room, but you could flip the stable boy a few coppers and I'm sure he'd appreciate it.))
Hanna says "Sure thing! Come by same time and there should be a slot open. And don't be surprised if you go through the same BS tomorrow night at first, at least until all of the locals get to see you. Some nights are worse than others here as far as patrons go, and if the fishers have a bad day, look out. But this is a great start!" she accepts your bow and returns the smile.
Korrik, Brett would tell you that there are indeed candles in the rooms.
Once the evening comes to an end, Ess says "Night guys! I'm pumped for tomorrow! Let's meet here for breaky and then plan out the day! Great songs tonight Ben! Sleep well!"
Ok you guys can both level up to 3 once you head to the rooms and take the long rest! Let's RP the leveling via 1:1 threads.
As for Ess - I will post a brief RP for his leveling later, but he will reach level 3 'warrior' sidekick, so this will give him improved critical which grants him crits for rolls of 19 or 20. I'll update his stat sheet as well.
As Ess arrives in his room, he takes a sigh of relief as he realizes he has finally made it out of Neverwinter and has started his new life. The past few days have been a blur for him, and now that he has time to unwind in solitude, he is really feeling the effects again of the treatment he had at the temple just a few short days ago. He has time to sit and reflect on all of this as he also would request some boiling water for his bath and a candle just like Korrik.
There would be no meditation here for Ess... just relaxing and thinking about what might be next for himself and his new friends.
He eventually finishes up his bath and retires for the night. He feels good. More confident. Excited for new adventures. -> queue the 'Improved Critical' feature. I've updated his stat block as well. Also, I really like to roll for HP (totally up to you though for your characters. I don't think you guys rolled for L2, right? I rolled for Ess's L2.), so here's Ess's roll. 8
I will wait for Korrik's level up and then will kick off the next morning (in game time).
((I've been burned by low rolls on HP in the past, so generally take average when given the option. I my games, I usually let players roll, but take average if that's higher. Figure the more HP they have, the more I can take away. 😉 I didn't want to try to do K's level up RP on my phone, so will get that to you this morning. ))

Wish I could've seen it, it's so damn busy in here!" Brett has lightened up a lot now since before.

((Ready to call it a night!))
"Sounds good Ess, see you in the morning!"

"Night gentlemen. I will see you both in the morning. Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"
He gives the pair a wink.
😉 I didn't want to try to do K's level up RP on my phone, so will get that to you this morning. ))
