"Well, we're wanted by a cult now. 100 people trying to take us out for kidnapping the princess, which we didn't do. Also, the king is going to find out eventually that Rhun didn't really come see him, and he sent out a group of people he doesn't know to find artifacts he wants brought back to end the war. But I'm guessing the people around the king want the war to go on, and I'd bet a dragon's hoard that they're the ones who set this cult onto us. Fortunately they don't know who we are or what we look like, but they can guess. So we're headed to the first artifact, right? Anyone know anything about the place we're going?"Polly says, looking around, and thinking herself about her experience in the war and whether it brought her close to this place.
"My family lives on the edge of Mistbrook, and I've traveled to the elven capital a few times on business with my father. I might be able to remember something of value." History: 18
"Also, the spy swore to Tiamat. I wonder if the whole cult does, or just him. Also, Kolvak did see us. If he asked for a party with a gold dragonborn, an elf, a halfling, a human, a dwarf, and an unknown member, it really whittles it down. I'm willing to bet Kolvak isn't stupid, and if he finds out Ruhn wasn't there he'll inform the cult of our looks... if he hasn't already. The real question is if Kolvak is alone, or if others are with him. We should be more careful, disguising ourselves with what we can. Anyone have a disguise kit we could use? Muting scales, dying hair, all of those could help."
Turning to Brightmoon, "Do you want to try to unlock the book? It likely has answers we need."
Mason looks up "What book? I don't remember hearing about a book?" He walks over to examine and help and when he asks about magic protection he says "I have a spell that would help with that but we should keep it and study it to determine if my spell is necessary. Besides I will need a bit of a rest to study the spell again. I didn't study it yesterday."
(OOC - poison needle trap in lock to keep it safe)
Attempts to open lock (sleight of hand: 17, (not sure if you grant adv if proficient in thieves tools so : adv: 22))
To Caya "I have a disguise kit that we can use if needed, I should be fine I was already disguised so they should not even know I am an elf"
The lock opens up and disappears when you pick it. Inside the book is a special spell written in Elvish Script. (Make an arcana check to identify the spell. Anyone else who tries to read it must know Elvish first, otherwise the check automatically fails.)
While Brightmoon doesn't understand anything about what this book is saying, but as Brightmoon is translating(form of help) the book to Mason, he realizes...
(Mason only)
...That this book contains three uses of True Polymorph.
Mason almost jumps out of his skin "This book has three incantations of True Polymorph. This is a rare and VERY powerful book of arcane magic. It will be a while before I can cleanly use this, I'm still learning the arcane, but in desperation I would be able to try and might succeed."
"I think we shouldn't be chasing the shadows, and just move on with our mission. Maybe next time we reach civilization we might send some messages so people can find out more about the people following us"

"If someone can make sure it won't explode or turn whoever opens it into a newt, then sure," Polly says.
(Actually, I just did that as a play on the phrase "I swear to god")
"I can check for physical tarps, can someone check for magical protection?"
Brightmoon checks for traps on the book (Investigation: 29)

Lot's of stuff ...
(Why would there be physical traps on a book)
There are absolutely no traps of any kind on the book, it is just locked.
(OOC - poison needle trap in lock to keep it safe)
Attempts to open lock (sleight of hand: 17, (not sure if you grant adv if proficient in thieves tools so : adv: 22))

Arcana:8
Mason steps forward "I can undestand this writing, let me see if I can make out this item. Does anyone else know Elvish? They could help me"
Without help arcana check: 17
If someone helps adding another check for the possible advantage: 8

"I think the elf speaks it."
I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)

"Like a spell scroll, no? If so you could use it now and even copy one down into your spell book if you're a wizard when you get good enough."
"Well do we go back and try and deal with this Kolvak, or go on and keep a watchful eye? I vote go on."
