Ogres look confused and shocked when the the Firebolg shows the giant's head. Some seem shocked, others look angry or scared. But many look relieved. There is a pause while the ogres slowly process the current situation.
Ogres start whispering (or by human standards, nearly shouting) to each other. From what you understand, there seems to be general approval. Eventually a few of the ogres come forward.
One says:
"Fistsmash not here. At forward camp, command attack on fort, or get eaten, big Maw said."
The other continues
"We no want to fight hobgoblins. Tasty food is better than fighting. But what about the gods? They will punish us. Gods scary. Can hobgoblins beat gods?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

As the pair approaches, the firebolg reaches into the bag of bounty and pulls free a roast chicken, and just takes a bite while palming the bird. He nods as they voice their concerns, and tosses the bird to one of them as he considers, reaching back in to pull out a rope of sausages that he tosses to the next ogre.
((Bag produces 45 lbs of modest fare, and 30 gallons of water.))
"TASTY FOOD BETTER THAN FIGHTING. GODS TALK TO YOU? OR ONLY TO BIG MAW, AND HIM TELL YOU WHAT GODS SAY?"
"Big Maw god send big scary voice once. Voice throw thunder and say we obey or be punished. Says hobgoblin gods are gone, but Big Maw follow true gods, so he wins."
Nasaar sighs inwardly. He figures that some wizard got control of the giant, then faked out these ogres by using some magic to seem mighty. He keeps his mouth closed though, as telling Ogres they were fooled would do no good here.
"Agreed. Food for ogre, fight humans, but not fight gods unless ogres have friend god."
The firebolg feels himself unclench a bit as he continues tossing in some goodberries as well.
"You tell Fistsmash, no fight hobgoblins, we tell hobgoblins, no fight ogre."
((Depending on how far we traveled from the command post to get here, he can ritual cast animal messenger to send a bird to let the commander know that an accord has been struck with the ogres, and to pull back and cease hostilities. I can't remember how far we are from there.))

"Let's move away from camp? When we get a chance, I can let the Commander know.", the firebolg suggests to his fellows.
"We go, tell hobgoblins not fight ogres, but give ogres food.", he says, waving goodbye to the ogres and tensely walking out of the camp.
At the edge, he pauses and turns. "Big Maw have other hill giant friends? They not in charge anymore. We already kill two giants. If there more, ogres can catch up and prove to hobgoblins that ogres are worth feeding lots of good food!"
Once they're well enough away, he'll coax down a bird and ritually cast animal messenger, counting out the words on his fingers.
"We killed Big Maw, giant leader. Feed ogres and will fight against humans. Afraid of gods, will not fight gods. Are... returning.... now -- stop fighting."

"Well that went better than I expected." Nasaar says as they get far enough away from the ogres that the dumb brutes wouldn't hear and misunderstand his words. "I'm ready to get back to camp and see what the next mission will be."

The firebolg holds their breath while waiting to see how the ogres react, and if Fistsmash comes forward to take charge of the ogre army.

Ogres consume the food in mere seconds. They nod:
"Tasty food really good."
They continue:
"Big Maw god send big scary voice once. Voice throw thunder and say we obey or be punished. Says hobgoblin gods are gone, but Big Maw follow true gods, so he wins."
"Big Maw wins because he follows true gods?"
The firebolg flicks his held flame at Big Maw's head contemptuously.
"Big maw not win. How true can his gods be?"
