To me the Unseen Attackers and Targets and Dis-Advantage rules aren't all that realistic always but the ruleset isn't meant to be, it's instead meant to be streamlined and easy to use which in that sense they are.
This is why I love having a DM who can rule and make sense of any ruleset that cannot ever possibly cover every scenario! Its why I love D&D!

Remember there are Rules as Written (RAW), Rules as Intended (RAI), and Rules as Fun (RAF). There's some great RAW, RAI, and RAF here... please check in with your DM to determine how they want to adjudicate the RAW/RAI/RAF for your game.
