Sorry if this has been asked, I've read up on the spell and I saw sage advice stating "you can't move a creature in and out and back in again to deal damage over and over again" but what if you did it only once?
Example. First round you cast moonbeam on top of a creature, it takes the damage but decides not to move on its turn.
Second round, you are a Stars Druid with a 1 lvl Genie dip and have the Crusher feat. You bonus action Archer the creature and move it 5 feet out of Moonbeam, then use your Action to cast Thorn Whip and pull it back into Moonbeam. Is this allowed? You're only moving it back in once in this scenario but it did start its turn in the beam already which is where I wasn't sure if this would work. Can you only forcefully move it into Moonbeam if it is out of Moonbeam to start?
The Sage Advise is clarifying that the requirement for Moonbeam's damage "When a creature enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn . . ." is only met when a creature moves into the spell's area, not when the spells area is created or moved into the creature.
Sage Advise specifically brings up forcing an enemy into an effect like Moonbeam is a valid strategy. This can only be done once per turn however due to Moonbeam's damage only triggering the first time a creature enters it's effect in a turn.

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Thanks for the responses everyone. Sounds like I can do it since i'm still forcefully moving it myself only once on my turn even if it started in Moonbeam. My next build is a Stars Druid with Genie dip with the Crusher so plan on using the Moonbeam and yes Spike Growth forced movement situations quite often!
