If a fighter readies and holds his action what does he loose if he never uses that action?
If a caster readies and holds his spell what does he lose if he never casts it?
Its starting to sound like you want to be the super hero starting out at level 1 and not work at it through the levels.
Without adding in feats and anything else, which class is the most powerful in the first tier? Its not any of the casters. Add in subclasses and its even more in favor of the martials.
Casters rarely get opportunity attacks because of their casting limitations. But martials always get that extra free swing in on an opportunity attack.
Others can figure it out but whats the maximum damage a 1st level martial could possibly do vs a 1st level caster? Even if the caster only used a cantrip for no real spell slot(ammo) cost.
