So, while theorycrafting a fighter character this question came to my mind, could Battle Master, Monster hunter or a pc with Martial Adept use their manouvers with improvised weapons,
For example: can you use trip attack with a net? Or sharpened attack with alchemist's fire? How would you rule this?
An improvised weapon is still a weapon, but not all objects would count as an improvised weapon and there are logical limits that I would personally observe. Tripping with a Net is perfectly logical, but maybe doing damage doesn't make sense.
I'll agree with SladeTracey, and also mention that the Tavern Brawler feat allows you proficiency in improvised weapons, as well as giving your unarmed strikes a d4 + Str mod for damage. Additionally you can attempt to grapple your target using a bonus action (If you so desire) when you hit with either using that feat. The means to how creative you can get with improvised weaponry as far as using maneuvers is limited by imagination, but as noted there may be inconsistencies at the DM's discretion.

That is really up to the DM but RAI you can use improvised weapons to do almost anything including maneuvers even if you are not proficient with them. At that point it will probably be considered more of a context and flavor thing why they are using their improvised weapons. The same thing can be said about the special weapons which if I remember correctly things like a net are catergorized as such but still make sense to be able to use for things like a trip attack.

Not gonna lie, the net trip attack with tavern brawler grapple does sound pretty sweet, enemy being grappled, prone and restrained on one fell swoop.
