"standing on a spot" should probably be read as "in a space". Or, you could say that prone creatures auto-succeed, since they can't lose their balance and fall into the chasm, but instead are already laying on the ground and able to hold on as the ground moves? Hell, maybe it's intentional!
The fissures don't spawn until the castor's next turn. So anyone knocked prone from the initial casting will have time to stand up before the fissures spawn. I dont see why a player would choose to remain prone and I guess the spell doesn't see why either. Frankly if they were still prone I'd have then automatically fall into the fissure.

Why? Dex saves don't depend on you standing. Particularly with this one, it can easily be represented by the character grabbing the edge of the fissure with their hands. Prone does not limit your ability to flop, roll, grab, etc.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
I just dont think grabbing the edge of the fissure is accurate. It's difficult terrain and you can only crawl. A standing person is trying to keep their balance while moving with the opening of the fissure. I would see a prone person try to get away from it. I know that's not how the spell works it's just how I see it in my head.
But then I suppose a prone target has a better chance than a restrained or paralyzed who have no movement so i could see prone just getting disadvantage.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
