If my ally is being attacked. can i move them with the shove action to get him away without provoking attacks of opportunity. so like i am now within the enemy's 5 feet and my ally is 5 feet behind me now
To put yourself between an ally and an enemy, instead of shoving, you could also move up to your ally, use at least one of your attacks in your attack action to grapple them, and then move a little bit of distance to "drag or carry the grappled creature with you" in a way that puts them on the other side. Speed is halved by grappling, so for most 30-speed characters, you'll need to have moved probably no more than 10 feet to get to your ally to be able to move at least 5 feet afterwards to drag them behind you.
I'm pretty sure that's correct. In addition to shove you could probably also use things like lightning lure, thorn whip, grasping vine, etc., but your ally will take a little damage from it.
Well, it's basically correct. For full clarity, if something forces a creature to use its own movement (like say, Dissonant Whispers), that does provoke an opportunity attack. But stuff that moves a creature without it using its own movement does not.

Yes, although the geometry is pretty particular. You move the shove target five feet away from you, so you’d have to do some diagonal stuff.
so forced movement doesnt provoke Op attacks

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

im sure they wont mind a vine to the arse if it means getting away from a bugbear

Heck, in a session just last night someone lightning-lured me back onto a boat after I fell in the drink. :)
This is correct

Correct enough for the purpose of this thread at any rate.

I only mentioned it because I recently screwed up that rule.
