Replying to this like a year later to say that, well, assuming you do go for Bladesinger's extra attack, with intent to work with War Magic from EK, you're going to get a total of what? 2 attacks and a cantrip cast at the cost of both your action and bonus action, whereas if you just go all-in for EK to the same level you can do two attacks and a cantrip with just your action alone via fighter's three attacks per action interacting with War Magic, leaving bonus action shenanigans open. I'd say the wording RAW works as others have pointed out the action type required is not explicitly stated, despite this RAW almost certainly not being as intended, but that it's actually mechanically worse than just sticking with EK as far as action economy goes, so I'm not really sure what the problem is?

No no no, an Eldritch Knight cannot cast spells via their attack action. That's not what the War Magic feature does.
War Magic
Beginning at 7th level, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action.
Improved War Magic
Starting at 18th level, when you use your action to cast a spell, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action.
So the best a pure Fighter can do is one spell (cantrip or levelled depending on your level) and then one attack and this would use both the action and bonus action.
Really didn't intend to come back to this topic but with all the playtests going on it might be good to parse this out fully so that people can make their opinions clear.
While you are correct in what you say, the Eldritch Knight features were written when the divide between the Attack action and casting a spell was absolute.
Yea that divide might have been absolute but there was ways to cast spells with your action without using the Attack Action all the way back when the EK was first written. There are several items that lets you cast a spell without using the Cast a spell Action.
