The party is super human. Or are you missing the fact that base human stats are 10 and they have on standard only what 2 abilities close to that with standard array? They ARE super human. What's your point? And I'd love for you to explain how it is mechanically different. its a bowed piece of material holding tension on a string that flings a straight, fletched object at a target, the mechanics couldn't be simpler. Just because it has a winding system to pull the string back vs arm power doesn't mean anything.
No, it doesn't take multiple people to operate a cannon. 1 person can do it just fine. as for the other points you are just responding with "NUH UH YOUR WRONG". I stated my opinion, you tried to shout down my opinion with your realism. Its a role playing game. nobody wants to spend 3 rounds of combat to shoot an oversized bow.. They are super human. A barbarian could pull back the string on a ballista without using the mechanism with a belt of hill giant strength. 0 difficulty, so it would operate like a heavy crossbow for a goliath barbarian. he could rip it off the aiming mechanism and fire it at a tarrasque with the same difficulty as a fighter with a heavy crossbow.. Same mechanism. same principles, same process. same thing. You just want to get nitty gritty... And yes. a grandfather clock, a wrist watch, and a pocket watch are 100% all the same thing, with the same mechanisms, following the same principles, and if you can work on 1 you can likely figure out the other. Just like a dirtbike and a car are both motor vehicles. Difference is, a car is easier to operate than the SMALLER dirtbike. imagine that size doesn't have to mean more difficult.
My apologies, I did not realize you are an experienced artillery man. Nor did I realize that you are mechanically inclined and understand the intricacies of both small and large gasoline engines. It is funny you say a dirt bike and car are the same but difference in size. Because I know small engine mechanics tell me that there is a huge operating difference between a car and a dirt bike.
Yes I said you were wrong, but I was mistaken. You know and have operated cannons and I assume ballista and crossbow. While I hear there are distinct differences from people, they are the ones who are wrong.

It does take multiple, at least two and usually three. One to pack and aim, another to fire. One cannot do it "just fine" compared to it being correctly operated. If you think someone disagreeing with you is them "shouting you down" then maybe you shouldn't be participating in a forum. As for realism vs game, my initial position was literally "The game mechanics say X so that's how it works". You tried to invoke "realism" (incorrectly) by saying a ballista and a heavy crossbow were basically the same, so they should use the same action to reload. I merely pointed out your real-world comparison was incorrect by pointing to the real-world. You honestly need to pick a lane.
This sounds like you have zero justification for this homebrew rule other than "Well it's fantasy so I can do what I want" (which isn't justification)
If you’re going for “realism”, a cannonball is heavy as all hell and needs to be shoved in the cannon, the cannon needs to have a proper fuse and be cleaned from the previous explosion. If you don’t do any of these steps the cannon will not function at best and kill everyone around it at worst.
If you go for mechanics it says it takes 3 actions to shoot it so that’s what it does, no ifs or buts.
