My first character that I played for more than a week was a red dragon (homebrew race based on dragonborn) fighter named agyroth. He attempted to steal a 20 foot tall stone pillar among other things and would try to buy strange items such as a pickaxe, axe, shovel, and spear built into one tool, and a crossbow that shoots anything fits inside the cannon barrel built into it. We were playing waterdeep dragon heist so it was very fitting.
Hollow unbreakable arrows are the most OP common magic item, and my current method of coming up with insane combat shenanigans.
if you make a steel pipe with one end closed and a nozzle on the other, you can enlarge it, fill with any liquid, and then drop concentration, creating a high pressure squirt gun. (or a pipe bomb, depending if it holds)
Human fighter. I don't remember his name, because this was back in 1981 and back then we didn't waste much time making personalities or backstories for characters that were probably going to die soon anyways.
But I DO remember losing a set of perfectly good armor to that gott-dang rust monster in the Caves of Chaos! Damn near cost me everything I made on that adventure just to re-equip myself.
I think it was just called a magic user (not a mage or wizard) in the red box. Think the name was Morphos, well there was Morphos, then Morphos II, Morphos III etc. because red box 1d4 magic user hit dice. Morphos IV got to level 2.

I don’t know how many characters I had with a 2, 3, 4, etc. after their names, but I did have one friend who hit 14 before he finally decided the name was cursed.
And those 1st level magic users back in the pre-cantrip days were so awful. After you cast magic missile, the player could pretty much go home because there would be nothing else for them to do that day.

Not even the pre-cantrip days, even in 3rd Edition it stunk because if you were reduced to casting Ray of Frost for a might 1d3 damage against a target was an indication that you were completely screwed.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Cisriel “Sora” Moonscale, a Dragonborn Draconic Sorcerer from 4th edition. Got her all they way to 30th level where she became Io reborn (Avatar of Io epic destiny). She could use her multi-damage type breath weapons all day every day and all of her spells where bursts of elemental destruction. She could also become a full dragon and maul her enemies to death.

Thursagan the mountain dwarf fighter with classic barbarian kit. Played him in a dungeon then in the Scourge if the Slavelords module. Had a +4 wooden plate at some point that got destroyed by an ooze due to a few unlucky rolls. Wore metal armour only once in his life. Played till lvl 9.
My first ever character? Wow this gives me some flashbacks. May I introduce to you, Kell, my first character, and a middle aged, true neutral human fighter who is just bored and is looking for some excitement. I got him to level 8, and then we finished the campaign. He was pretty fun to play, and got himself an ale horn that never ran out.
Lara, female human Magic User. Don't remember much about her but she hung out with Bengerd (Human female Ranger) and Mimer (Human Odin Cleric, quite martial), a fighter of some kind and a thief whom I can't really remember. We played that party several years, back in the early eighties
Saleadon Morgul, the AC Tank. I accidentally built a Battle Smith that abuses Elven Plate, an item specific to the Module we were playing. We ended up basically getting two sets of Medium Armor that starts at AC 19. Then, two points of Dex got me to 21. An infused shield an Ioun Stone later, I got to 26 AC. I somehow made a good character by accident.

Playing AD&D around 1980, I had a half-elf multi-class Cleric Fighter-Magic User level 1. I think he had 8hp. Str 15, Int 16, Wis 18, Con 12, Dex 12, Cha 10. He hired a huge posse be promising a large portion of the treasure. He got a lot of it back because he was the only healer in the group and it was agreed he would get money back for each hp of healing he provided and didn't use on himself. Back in those days healing was a premium. While it was more "realistic" it also slowed the game down while we rested.

My first was a Kobold rogue named Seel but I didn’t know how to make a character sheet and I didn’t have any sourcebooks so I looked up “Kobold” on ******* and tried to copy and paste the monster statblock in place of the racial statblock because I forgot there was a difference. Also almost gave him 6 int.
i remade him recently for a discord server dedicated to just RP and I’m marinating in that nostalgia because I had fond memories of it.
My first character was an elf fighter name Glorfindel because my siblings just created LOTR characters for their first game and I wanted to be included. Don't really remember most of it because I was 4 but I remember it was 2e and I loved it.

Edit: agyroth is my profile photo.

It was on 3rd edition, a half-orc barbarian without much personality.
On 5e, my first was a hill dwarf life cleric called Belorond that was pretty fun to play. Textbook lawful good, had a prayer to any scenario.
3.5 Wood-elf ranger; written in early high-school and thus, basically just a self-insert.

Human Wizard in a mix of AD&D 1st and 2nd edition. I had been playing a different game before I started playing AD&D in the end of the Eighties.
I was 11, like 30 some odd years ago, his name was “Saga” a barbarian - I basically took my brother’s Conan comics and built Saga around those comics.
