Very cool story. I'm getting some Mandalorian vibes with the hired gun paling around with their "adopted" infant. Maybe with a little Last Samurai thrown in. I did find it a little odd that he went back to being a mercenary (though an independent one) after swearing to turn from that lifestyle. A traveling healer of sorts sounds a little more appropriate imo but I guess you do what you know.
Damrus Gemweaver, happy go lucky lovable Druid Forest Gnome.
Damrus is a famed Cartographer within Gnome society. He is well known as a great up and coming tradesman who spends great lengths of time outside the relative safety of the cities. When out of the cities you can be sure to find Damrus in the deep wilderness constructing great maps of uncharted lands for the benefit of all Gnome-kind.
A traveler approached Damrus a short time ago, the traveler, a dwarf who said his name was Baltor, requested Damrus to set out on a quest under a mountain in the name of a great dwarf king. Damrus excited for this opportunity jumped at the chance and set out almost immediately, once he had finished questioning the dwarf from pure excitement.
After months of exploration, Damrus had created the most perfect and realistic multi-layered map of the mountains, both above and below, that had ever been produced. However, during his exploration, Damrus had became suspicious of Baltor's intentions. Wherever Damrus travelled all he saw were happy and prosperous folk. They had food, wealth and family. What more could anyone ever want? and why had none of these inhabitants never heard of Baltor?
They had agreed to meet back at the Royal Guild of Cartographers guild headquarters to exchange the map for the coin, as well as to trade stories of the past few months. Damrus, suspicious of this meet, now appeared with a fake map, a map almost perfect bar one small detail, the scrolls had been magically imbued with a spell often used by the Gnomes in times of worry. If the word 'TREACHERY!' was yelled by a member of the guild, the map would immediately burst into magical flames.
Baltor had arrived with an armed escort of beings that Damrus had never seen before. They both seemed to be elves, but there eyes were sunken, they skin was more of a dark soulless grey, rather than the beautiful silken glow that he had seen previously. He produced the map and follow-up to question Baltor on his intentions. Baltor claimed he was only interested in acquiring a great collection of maps for his leader who would do with them as he pleased. Damrus, underwhelmed and unconvinced by this blatant lie, accused Baltor of tricking him into carrying out reconnaissance for whatever evil he had planned!
Baltor began to laugh and the two beings he had arrived with looked at each other and spoke in unison, "The Gnome isn't as dumb as he looks". Damrus, shocked, horrified... humiliated, by this betrayal had only one option left, he drew a great breath into his short frame, and with the great raw of a storm giant, he bellowed "TREACHERY!", then he ran for his life. Baltor and his party, shocked and panicked by the maps, now inflames, grew great in their rage and began destroying the headquarters of the guild in search for the only Gnome who could recreate the maps they longed for, any poor and unfortunate Gnome they encountered in the halls in their rage, was slaughtered without mercy or hesitation.
Within minutes the entire building had erupted in flames. With the attention this drew from guards, townsfolk and the local tavern, renown for homing great heroes passing through, the dwarf and his guards decided to make an escape with great haste.
From that day onwards, no one is sure what happened in that building. All that is known is that Damrus felt suspicious, he had powerful wizards from the guild imbue the maps with trap magic incase his suspicions were true, and that the building erupted in flames and no bodies were recovered. Damrus, has been presumed dead now for over 6 months.
He feels in his heart he cannot, and will not, return home until he can walk through the gates with that evil, soulless, liar of a dwarf in restraints, ready to answer for the crimes that he committed that ill-fated night.
My backstory is I don't have a backstory. I appeared in session 1 with amnesia. I had discussed some ideas with the DM prior to the amnesia idea, so maybe that's part of my backstory, but all I really know is what I learn from in-game lore. A lot of what my character does is motivated by the desire to learn who they are, where they come from, where they belong, and what their purpose is.
I've never posted to this thread before, but I've had this character in my stockpile for a while and I'm excited about finally getting to trot them out for a campaign! Meet Kitten, the tiefling rogue:
Kitten has never known their family. They were left at an orphanage as an infant, where they were given the name Nicholas Low. Life there was unpleasant, particularly for a tiefling child, being picked on both by the staff and the other children. At the age of 10 Kitten ran away and began living on the streets. This was where they met Lucky, an older tiefling urchin, and the two became fast friends. They pickpocketed and ran cons to make ends meet. It was around this time that Kitten changed their name, choosing it because of their ability to "always land on their feet" in sticky situations. Kitten and Lucky grew apart eventually; Lucky was getting tired of the grifter life and now that he was an adult he could leave town and start over somewhere else. So he did. Kitten has had a variety of jobs since then – bar tender, clerk, croupier, sex worker – but never manages to stay employed at one place for long, as they’ve never been able to resist scamming customers or keep their fingers out of the till. They live in a rundown tenement apartment with a couple other tieflings and do what they can to scrape by. They’re handy with a deck of cards and running rigged games is a favorite con.
Kitten is genderfluid and uses any and all pronouns. They tend to dress in a feminine, somewhat hypersexualized manner: heeled boots, tight pants, short skirts, corsets, cropped blouses, heavy makeup. They're flat-chested but sometimes use magic or padding to create the illusion of a more feminine figure. Kitten is friendly to the point that it might seem suspicious. They address everyone as "sugar" or "honey" regardless of how long they've known them. Flattery and flirting are their weapons of choice, closely followed by daggers. Kitten is admittedly materialistic, vain, a kleptomaniac, and a con artist, but they aren't really a bad person. They're good to their friends and can actually be quite motherly, and they will always go out of their way to help a fellow tiefling. Amassing wealth is more or less their only goal in life.
Signature phrases: "I'm a cat, honey - I always land on my feet." "The world owes me a living." "Can't no god do nothing for me that I haven't done for myself."
Inheriting his father's debt as a boy, Jaskar made the decision to work for the Zhentarim in order to pay back what his family owes. With no useful skills to speak of he is thrown into the gladiatorial pits beneath Zhentil Keep as entertainment for the masses. There he’s trained by a manipulative Tiefling fighter named Stolas, who teaches him to survive for the price of his dependency. Tired of earning other men wealth, prestige, and power, all things Jaskar yearns for himself, he and Stolas plot to escape the gladiators' cells and flee Zhentil Keep for other lands. Their freedom is short-lived as bounty hunters track down and separate the two, leaving Jaskar to wander aimlessly looking for what he understood to be his only friend. His aimless meanderings drive him to the Sword Coast where in the small town of Phandalin he takes an ill advised stand against three bugbear ruffians who are harassing the townspeople. Beaten, bloodied, and left in the mud Jaskar is saved by a small band of adventurers: two Aasimar (Theia and Ahura), a Changeling (Silverstrike), and a Triton (Nixie). They ask him to join them on their adventures, an offer which he eagerly accepts. In later adventures the group adds more allies to their gathering, this time: a Warforged (Bastian), and a Goblin (Bog the Magnificent).
Since forming this informal adventuring party the group has slain dragons, thwarted the hidden plots of clandestine cults, taken up arms against the Black Network, and more recently committed to a mercenary contract to rebuild a ruined township twice victimized by unfortunate fates.
His name is Keldon and He was part of this tribe of elf’s that protected there sacred forest for many generations but he didn’t want to he wanted to go and explore, go on adventures, and create new inventions. One day he showed his dad one of his inventions a handheld machine that could shot fire. His dad slapped it out of his hands and said “your inventions could never help anyone, and you can only train to use a sword and bow to help people.” Later that night he ran away out in the cold night with a full moon bright above, he could hear wolfs howling of in the distance so he decided to find somewhere to rest, he found a cave and stayed by the entrance and started making a fire for warmth but before he could start the fire he heard a growl from in the cave and out ran a werewolf full sprint towards him, Keldon ran for his life but he was so weak from running all night that he tripped in a log and the werewolf was over him snarling at him as the werewolf brought his claw down and scratched out Keldon’s eye, after seeing how weak he was the werewolf grabbed him by the ankle and dragged him through the forest till Keldon saw a flickering light of a camp fire. As he got closer he could slightly see with his one eye that there was four other werewolf’s, as he reached the campsite the sun was just coming up and they were transformed back to there original forms, they saw Keldon in the one now mans hand and said “Fred you did it again we almost ate another person, just tie home to that tree over there.”
“Ok sir.” Said the one that still was dragging Keldon. As he tied Keldon up one of the others put a bandage over the hole that was now his eye. He was tied there for three days with no food or water. He could feel his lips and tongue cracking from dryness he reached out for his bag as a spectral hand appeared and grabbed his bag and brought it to him, and he grabbed the bag from the spectral hand and pulled out the machine that his dad slapped from his hand and pushed the little buttons on it as flames began spewing from it and burnt the rope, he quickly reached into his bag and grabbed his food and ate it so quick that he almost choked, he grabbed his water and he could feel the cold water going down his throat and getting rid of all the dryness in his mouth. He went back to the hand and thanked it as it disappeared. Keldon decided he needed to go to a town of something. He walked for two days and found a small town that he stayed in for a few days staying at the in with the money he stole from his dad and restocking for his next journey. After the two days he left and told the people that helped him he would remember them and how much they helped him. He started to walk away from the town going wherever the road takes him.
I've really wanted to play this character concept for a really long. Hope it's good enough to be picked by the DM.
Zed was born as a human in the desert country of (Insert appropriate name). When he was three, a famine struck the land that lasted for nearly 5 years. When he was four, both of his parents died of starvation. They would feed Zed rather than eat themselves. A local gang of street kids took him in when they found him wandering around. They taught him how to steal to survive. He picked it up rather quickly and was soon helping them conduct their grand "heists" that often involved stealing food from vendors when their backs were turned. Zed had a talent for being sneaky and a knack for evading capture. During one of their heists, a member of a crime guild was how talented he was. Impressed by now much potential he had, he kidnapped Zed in the night and spirited him away to the crime guild's headquarters. There, he learned the more refined ways of stealing. He was taught how to target higher marks than food. The crime guild quickly became his new "family."
Years later when he was 18, the guild assigned him to be part of a mission to steal a large, pure diamond. He succeeded with great success. The guild leader was impressed. As Zed's reward, the leader gave him to the guild wizards for a set of magical 'enhancements.' Not knowing what was going on, Zed stayed confident that he would be fine and even better than before when the wizards were done with him. The wizards gently put him to sleep and then began their grisly work.
When he awoke, all he knew was pain. Endless torment greeted him as soon as he awoke. He was no longer human. He was a transparent mass of ooze and muscle. The pain shattered his psyche leaving him insane. One day, the wizards brought in a man who double-crossed the guild. The mages killed the man in front of what once was Zed. Zed felt the other man's spirit drift away, and he seized it. As soon as he did, the ooze transformed into a replica of that man. The pain disappeared when he assumed the dead man's form. He was a perfect replica, and fragments of that soul became locked away in Zed. He could draw upon memories of those he absorbed, making him able to become the perfect spy. The mages were pleased that their experiments worked. They brought in hundreds of others and killed them near him. Every time, he would absorb portions of those souls as they passed on and gained the ability to become them. The mages put mental shackles on Zed so he would do their bidding.
He soon was sent out on special missions as part of a team. His team would capture an important target, kill them near Zed, and Zed would become them. He would then infiltrate and complete the mission appointed to him. He couldn't resist due to magical compulsions. He became the guild's secret weapon.
Having hundreds upon hundreds of souls in one body was bound to have consequences. When he would absorb a soul, he would absorb their personality, their wants, their desires. Whenever he would shift into one of them, he would literally become them for a while, but he was trained to control their psyche. Having just a handful of souls was difficult, but thousands was too much. He would lose his true identity piece by piece when someone else was absorbed by him.
One on of his missions, he finally cracked under the pressure. All of those souls bottles inside of him shattered the magical bonds binding him. They all sought to control his body, their body, all at once. This happened while at a Noble's party at a mansion overlooking the ocean. He had taken the form of a noblewomen just hours before. His goal was to assassinate one of the nobles at the party. When he broke down, he went into a murderous frenzy and slayed several guards and nobles before finally throwing himself out a window and into the ocean hundreds of feet below. As he struck the ocean, Zed was lost in a whirlwind of tattered souls. Zed's persona was ripped into thousands of pieces and was lost. A new creature was born.
He awoke on a passenger boat setting sail towards the new land. A fisherman had dragged him out of the water late last night. What once was Zed was confused with a sense of being lost. Who was he? He was thousands of people all at once, yet he was no one. Which persona should be become? Who was the true him?
He arrive at the continent of Tharivanne. Not knowing what to do, he shifted into a child beggar and lived in the streets. A few weeks later, a wandering bard of the name Natton Bventun passed through the area and took pity on him. The bard took the child in and taught him the ways of the bard. The child and his other fragments of people fell in love with music. Music soothed them and made them feel better.
In a different city on a cold night, Natton Bventum was slain by a member of the crime guild in front of the child. The guild was seeking what was Zed to take him back. They saw the child with the bard, and recognized the child. They kill Natton in front of him to test to see if the child was what once was called Zed. It absorbed and transformed into Natton. It fled from the guild member and disappeared in the night.
He tries to keep his abilities secret to avoid being noticed by agents of the guild. He has a feeling he wasn't always like this. While he now doesn't personally know the guild, he knows people are after him. What is now called Natton but once was Zed seeks companions to help protect him. But above all, he wants true friends. He wants to do find out what he is and why he is the way he is. Who is he?
((That's probably a bit confusing, but it's pretty much a magical and severe case of multiple personality disorder.))

Help me out with Game terms. Is he a changeling? What class is he?
Telepathic Divination Wizard (maybe multiclass with Warlock or Sorcerer)
My whole life I had looked up to the stars, almost as if I was looking for something. I was an Astromancer sage of good standing in the city, until one night while studying the stars I happened upon a new light in the southern sky.It was a brilliant comet with a long blueish-green ghostly tail on a strange course that defied the typical patterns. It was undiscovered and without any record within the crumbling tomes. Realization set that I may be the first ever to have seen this celestial body as it sped through the heavens for untold ages. As I alone looked upon the comet, IT had looked back upon me. My gaze had drawn the attention of an ancient entity who was the comet itself. With my first sight, it had given me the ultimate Gift. It had created an eldritch organ (or unholy tumor to some) that began to grow within my mind allowing me to look deep into the void of the far realm and its infinite expanse. The Gift also granted me knowledge of the Eldertear Comet and its origin. The comet was an entity known as Ith-Pag-Iral. The youngest of the all the elder gods, but with the greatest hunger to feed its ancient frozen embryonic form. He had formed from parts of all the stars infested by the far realm, consuming bits of detris and vestiges as it passed through their orbits on its path through the heavens.
As the organ grew, I became a conduit of sorts, seeing visions of the far realm along with experiencing waves of great pain. My mind was flooded with a cacophony of incomprehensible voices along with vistas of blasted barren lands, raging cosmic epic storms, twin black holes as they swallowed entire galaxies, viscous rain dropping from toxic purple skies on to seas of unending larvae, gargantuan horrific bodies of dead gods orbiting cold suns, and a glowing purple amoebic sea, where I was digested over the course of a thousand years.*
Seeking to free my mind of the pain and unrelenting imagery of madness, my fellow adepts looked for ways to help. Trepanation with protection ward magics was the diagnosis where a triangular section of my skull was removed in the shape of the sacred geometric all seeing eye. This removal was to blind me from the visions and to control my thoughts because the organ (or tumor as they called it) could not be removed. The arcane procedure instead opened a doorway to my new Third Eye, releasing my consciousness from the prison of the flesh.I could look into the minds of others and between the spheres of this reality. The powers of divination had become second nature for me. I could see the future in all the known ways but most accurately, in the stars and in the entrails of beasts and men.
I had foreseen that the course of the The Eldertear Comet or Ith-Pag-Iral will someday intersect with this planet, bringing The Time of Summation where we will all be absorbed into His light. My mission was then clear, to create well-being, prosperity, happiness, goodness and positive energy on this world, so that all can be consumed by Him on the great Day of Union. Where we shall join with Ith-Pag-Iral and our souls shall ride together in the tail of the comet through the cosmos for eons without end.
I must enlighten the masses of His arrival, for it is certain. To believe in Ith-Pag-Iral, one must confess nescience and preach the new mentality, the Sentience of Light.
Long live the new light!
(*Some of these visions also appeared in the article Wish Upon a Star by Bruce R.Cordell. So surely, they must exist!)

You hail from the Orkan grand city of gold, a center of the arts for the region: The Black Garrison. Scholars and artists far and wide come for the knowledge within the gold- and silver-lined marble halls and towers, and travelers partake in the delight of the wonders of Orkan trade. You are the eldest daughter of the Chieftain of the city's artisan's district. As Orkan tradition, you must venture into the world and live among the peoples of the land to decide if you wish to return to the Garrison and take your place in duty to the city's splendor or remain as a member of the greater Orkan nation that is to come.
You are still just an apprentice to your parents' well-renowned tinker trade, but you have learned some skill of your own with tinkering.
(NOTE: In the setting, the Orkan invaders are a glorious society of extravagance and elegance. The existing High Elven kingdom under the severe rule of Kings Oloquess and Eilinos is full of barbarism and brutish culture, making them particularly difficult to conquer even with refined Orkan warfare. Expect harsh welcomes from locales of strong High-Elven presence.)

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
Blade; Reaordus, an assassin raised by a guild that kidnaps children and trains them, fast forward, and he is mentoring another and if he ever dies she will be my new PC, contact for more info, I really when into depth on the guild (the Thorn Blades) don’t ask why I wasted so much time on it, but... it’s a thing.
This is only my second character ever created and my first time creating a backstory. I honestly don't know if the story fully lines up with D&D lore as I'm still quite new to it all. Figured I'd post it as I'd like to know if it actually works. Also, yes I know I went a bit overboard haha.
My character is called Aaleyah Selmah, a half Drow-Elf/Human that is a Sorcerer (divine soul)/Warlock (hexblade).
The day my mother found out she was pregnant with me would change the lives of many. A slave to a powerful Drow Elf sorcerer, there was nothing she wanted more than for me to live a life far from the darkness that he brought. She had been a gift to the sorcerer, a princess in exchange for peace within her kingdom. At the time it seemed a fair trade, her life for her many subjects and it was one she happily made. But the peace her sacrifice bought would not last forever. The King, once in good health, was agonised by the guilt of losing his only daughter and passed two summers later. It was his demise that would spark the onslaught of destruction and death to what had once been a thriving kingdom.
That spark came from my uncle, as he was overcome with a murderous rage and hunger for vengeance for both his sister and father. Within weeks of his rise to the throne, he had rallied the army and stormed the sorcerer's home. The battle lasted barely an hour as they discovered their mundane weapons and armour were no match for the power of the sorcerer. As their numbers diminished and they slowly retreated towards the safety of the walls of the kingdom, they brought the enemy closer to the homes of the ones they loved.
Death plagued the kingdom for many weeks after that, citizens lining the streets, either dead or dying wherever you looked. No matter what they tried, the royal army was no match for the powerful sorcerer and his followers. Eventually, the young King surrendered to protect what was left of his empire, but it was already too late. The sorcerer still angered by the Kings defiance, continued to annihilate everything and everybody in its path. What little remaining citizens there were fled, my uncle solely staying behind to distract the sorcerer after realising his surrender did little to appease the sorcerer.
With the kingdom finally fallen, its destruction was simply another instrument of torture used against my mother. Day after day, Mother’s captor found pleasure in torturing her, recounts of the obliteration of her kingdom and her brother’s death almost driving her to insanity. He would make her see it in her mind, the blood running through the streets, bodies of men, women and children in large decaying piles. She described the smell as the worst, rotting corpses mixed with the burning flesh of her brother. It would stay with her for days after every time she was forced through the experience and follow her into her dreams every night.
As the years drifted by, the sorcerer broke her spirit into nothing more than that of a ghost. She was simply a tool to him, taking care of his every need and desire. He had grown bored with the torture, as a numbness had befallen her, and she could no longer feel pain from either the physical or mental torment she once received. The only time she could not hide her emotions was at night, for when he touched her, her eyes would burn with pure hatred. It was the one reason my mother was kept alive, as he revelled in the knowledge that her only emotion left, was loathing for him. It was during one of those dark nights that I was conceived. I was a conception of nothing but hatred, evil, torture and despair. But it was my life that gave my mother a newfound hope, a desire for freedom. Though my father would taunt her about my birth and the evil that grew within her, my mother believed that if she could escape, she could avoid my corruption.
Over her time with the sorcerer, my mother discovered everything about him, including the primary source of his power. Although she had only glimpsed the room once and could barely believe her eyes, my mother had seen the Angels. Bound and trapped in shackles engraved with runes to stop them escaping, she knew these Angels were the source of his unimaginable power. They would be the only thing powerful enough to destroy the locks that blocked her exit. A plan formed in her mind as her spirit once again grew strong, and she knew what she had to do. Unsuspecting of her newfound desire for escape, my mother was able to execute her plan within the week. Her time with the Elf had taught her a great many things about magic, and for once, she dared to try it.
It was the morning of one of his meetings when he would be gone that the plan was put into action. For days she had been preparing for the task at hand, and if she failed, she would never be able to try again. Father owned many books about magic, and it was with the spells in one of these, that her plan came to life. Stolen from the shelves after first arriving years ago, she had kept the book secret to plan an escape, but after her kingdoms demise, she had abandoned all thoughts of freedom. Thrilled to have taken it so long ago, she made her way to the darkest parts of his home. The winding corridors seemed to stretch on for miles with no end. It had been so long since she had ventured further than the few rooms she was allowed in. If not for the illumination from her dancing lights spell, the darkness would’ve swallowed her whole as she ventured deeper. Finally reaching the door she was searching for, she unlocked it with the whisper of a few words full of longing and hope. It was here that she would have to hurry, for the spell would only work for 10 minutes before it trapped those left inside the room.
Shock hit her as it swung open, they were gone. At that moment, she believed she was defeated, and a thought crossed her mind that plagued her for the rest of her life. Killing herself would be the only way to stop my father from turning me into another monster to destroy the world.
“No, my child,” sounded from the far corner of the room.
For a moment, she thought it was the sorcerer disguised, about to unleash his wrath. But the voice was too sweet, too harmonious and peaceful. Inching towards the corner, she uttered the spell to reveal those invisible and joy flooded her heart. He had made the angels invisible, but they were still there. She set to work freeing them, burning away the runes that kept them in place. Weak and drained, the angels followed her towards freedom, she had finally done it. Too busy enjoying her victory to think of my father, she led them through the corridors, ignorant to the fact that she had just cut off his largest power supply and he had felt it.
As they reached the door that would open to the world and their escape, it burst open with a force that knocked Mother off her feet. Enraged, my father attacked the angels, more determined to prevent their escape than keeping his power source alive. No longer draining their magic, he was weaker, but after their years of captivity so were they. Unable to watch the fight unfold, my mother hid under a table; after all, there was no escape with the sorcerer blocking the doorway. The fight did not last long, as the sorcerer had realised, even weak, the angels were too great a force for him to take alone. He left as quick as he had appeared and though he was gone, my mother knew it would not be forever.
Helping my mother from the floor, the angel who had spoken earlier told her that they were indebted to her. Together they fled to the woods, needing shelter to recover for the night before they could once again ascend. It was that night that the Angels gave my mother two gifts. First was a necklace bound with the soul of an Angel who would have otherwise died in the fight, able to still use magic to prevent my father from being able to use spells to find her. The second gift was the knowledge that her child was blessed with magic, but not just the dark magic of my father. The Angels told her the Gods had chosen me for a higher purpose and that their power filled my soul. What that purpose was, they would not say, and till this day I still do not know. I received my name from the angles that night, Aaleyah Selmah, the great gift of God and divine protector.
I have never thought the name fit, especially after my 21st birthday. Though I had grown up knowing I was different, the only half-elf in the village my mother raised me in, I never knew the true story of my father. She told me that day and so many things began to make sense. I couldn’t believe she had kept it from me for so long, and the anger that boiled inside was uncontrollable. The ground shook like that of an earthquake as the sky darkened with clouds full of lightning and thunder. For years I had been ridiculed for the way I looked, my skin a dead giveaway as to my heritage. For years my mother had told me that even though my father was a Drow Elf, he had been a good man. For years I could not explain the feeling that my body and spirit have felt as though at war. My father’s evil magic running in my veins and the power of the gods in my soul. My world came crashing down that day, and it was the cause of my mother’s death. Word spread of the power I had shown as the villagers’ fear grew. The story of the half Drow Elf with skin the black and blue of obsidian and strong magic spread. Within days they had arrived. Demons sent by my father found our village and were destroying everything to find us.
Unbeknownst to me, my mother had prepared for the day that we were found and leapt into action as news of the demons reached us. Shoving a backpack into my hands, she dragged me through the village alley towards the forest. It was there she hugged me, and we said our farewells.
“You are the reason I live and the reason I survived all those years ago. Make me proud and do what you were always destined to do.” She uttered those words as she placed her necklace in the palm of my hands and sprinted back towards the village. I cried out after her, but it was at that moment demons appeared at the edge of one of the houses. For a second, she turned back to face me, a look of sadness and love upon her face. As she rose her arms to the sky, I felt my heart break and tears begin to rush down my face. Suddenly I was blown backwards into the forest as the area around her and the demons exploded with a bright light. Knowing that she had sacrificed herself for my escape, I got to my feet and ran until I could run no more. Drained both physically and emotionally, I fell against a tree and cried. As I uncurled my fists to rub my eyes, the necklace my mother gave me shone against my palm. Feeling a wave of calmness wash over me, I put the chain on and whispered a silent prayer for my mother. Though she had told me about the necklace with an angelic soul, I honestly wasn’t sure such a thing was possible. But as I placed the jewellery around my neck, I felt a presence with me and heard a voice within my mind.
It has been a year since that day transpired and I am still unsure as to what it is I am destined to do, or what the gods want from me. I have travelled throughout villages looking for answers or somewhere to fit in yet have found neither. Ansel has guided me where possible and has kept me hidden from my father’s magic as he did for my mother, but even he does not know my real purpose. With his guidance, I have started learning to control my powers, though the progress has been slow. After all, with whatever it is the gods have planned for me, I need to be ready.
TLDR
My character's father was an evil Drow-Elf sorcerer that kept my mother (a princess of a destroyed kingdom) captive. The mother helped free angels that were held captive by the sorcerer and escaped with them. One of the angels had their soul bound to a necklace otherwise they would have died while fighting to escape. This necklace gives my character access to hexblade warlock magic as the angel can access the Shadowfell due to being trapped between death and life. The angels told my character's mother that her child was blessed by the gods and destined for something. The gods' blessings give my character her divine soul sorcerer power. The mother sacrificed herself to save my character from demons sent by her father to find them. My character is now alone trying to find her purpose or a place to belong.

The full backstory isn't finished as of yet, I still have things to work out with the DM, but until then- Here is the character.

This is Ezozia Hansen, a CE Human Ranger:
Chaotic EVIL?
My backstory is I don't have a backstory. I appeared in session 1 with amnesia. I had discussed some ideas with the DM prior to the amnesia idea, so maybe that's part of my backstory, but all I really know is what I learn from in-game lore. A lot of what my character does is motivated by the desire to learn who they are, where they come from, where they belong, and what their purpose is.
Yep. She's gonna be a lot of fun. Worked a bit more on the backstory, and so far, I'm enjoying the way she seems as if she's going to play out.

Solace Redgrove | tiefling | bard

Augur of New Days
Doomsday Haruspex Prophet of the Eldertear Comet
Telepathic Divination Wizard (maybe multiclass with Warlock or Sorcerer)
My whole life I had looked up to the stars, almost as if I was looking for something. I was an Astromancer sage of good standing in the city, until one night while studying the stars I happened upon a new light in the southern sky. It was a brilliant comet with a long blueish-green ghostly tail on a strange course that defied the typical patterns.
The arcane procedure instead opened a doorway to my new Third Eye, releasing my consciousness from the prison of the flesh. I could look into the minds of others and between the spheres of this reality.

Full-blooded Orc Artificer - Level 1
