As the sun begins to rise, the party prepares to have breakfast before continuing on their journey to the Galtic Citadel. Lore goes to check in on Jakarys, but instead finds that Moira is back and has taken control over her body. The two of them go fine to breakfast where she is met with a very angry Aeshthra intent on not speaking with Jakarys after his actions last night. However, her anger dissipated somewhat as she realizes that Jakarys is not present.
Over breakfast, the party discusses the next steps while also filling in the time that Moira has missed. They also discuss the current situation surrounding Jakarys and Moira reveals that she doesn’t necessarily trust the party, and that she doesn’t care what happens to her hitchhiker. She simply wants her body and life back.
The Queen briefly interrupts their conversation to speak with them asking them to work on her behalf for peace. After making her plea, she remarks that at first, she has almost mistaken Moira’s body for her brothers. She also shares a dream that she had of Moira riding into battle. A dream that Moira takes as an omen, whether it is good or bad only time will tell. Before she leaves, she and Seven briefly discuss the financial side of upkeeping the Tower of Taroglin.
Before leaving Lore finishes running some errands and Aeshthra buys herself a musical instrument.
As they leave the city, Seven questions Moira further and brings up his theory that he believes that Jakarys may be her brother Alistair. She is curious about his theory but does not want to put any hope into it. Seven apologizes for bringing up a tense subject but he thinks that Moira is very antsy to get rid of Jakarys, and maybe the possibility of it being Alistair might give her pause.
They continue their travel to the citadel. When they make camp that night, during Moira’s watch, she thinks back on the war, where her brother dies saving her life. In remembrance and beholden to dwarves tradition, she cuts off a lock of hair to bury with his body when she returns to him.
The following day, the party approaches the Citadel, and admire its splendor and beauty right before they see it explode right before their eyes. They ride up to the city to search for survivors where they are met by the Arch-Mage Bronclivius. However, Moira finds it odd that the Arch-Mage, who she knows very well, doesn’t seem to recognize her. She grabs him by some very delicate parts and threatens the imposter. The disguise falls away to reveal a changeling Wisp knows as Luck. The party interrogates them, although they refuse to give up any information, other than to say that the mages guild is now framed for this crime. Unfortunately for Luck, their luck runs out and they are executed.
The party travels further into the city where they find the real Bronclivius at the gate. He imparts as much information that he can while Lore heals him. Overhead they hear the sound of a dragon’s screech. Bronclivius tells them that moments before the explosion sage brothers and sisters were being executed thanks to an order from Gino, who is Vindon’s current form. They give him the treasured texts, and a horse so he can travel to safety. Before he leaves, he tells the party to travel and meet him at Sympaticos’ estate.
They travel further into the city and manage to track down a dragon with black and white coloring, being ridden by Vindon. Seven takes a potion that gives him the ability to fly and battle commences. The party is victorious, killing both the dragon and its rider. However once Vindon is killed, it is revealed to be just a drow in disguise. They continue on further into the city and help a group of survivors find a transportation circle. However as they lead them to safety they come across a shadow dragon and rider. Headstrong, both Seven and Moira decide to charge in headfirst to defeat the threat. The rest of the party joins them in battle. Tired from their previous fight, they take a lot of damage with Wisp, Aeshthra, and Lore dropping unconscious before Moira manages to rip the top half of the dragon’s head off.
As the party is stabilized, Wisp receives a message in her head: “You have defeated my finest warriors. Very clever of you to use such tactics with your friends- but I doubt it will save their lives for very long. War is inevitable and you and your mages guild friends are now fugitives in almost every single kingdom. Good luck.” To which Wisp responds: “We won’t need luck. Luck’s dead.”
