Fun question, Am I the only one who when you have a character level up instead of directly doing it in the character sheet in the app you create a copy of the character and level it up? Basically I have an archive of all of my characters at each level back to when they were started. Im not sure if this is just me being crazy OCD or if others do this too, so im curious :)
Unsubscribed members have a limit of 6 character slots, so I assume the majority of users use them as efficiently as possible.
If I were a subscribed member with unlimited slots, I might keep a copy of favorite characters at certain levels in case I want to recycle them later (1, 3, 6, 14, 20), but any more than that would feel like hording trash. Most likely, I'd have a copy of a character at a playable level (3rd), and then a 20th level version as a leveling guide.
O am subscribed and an alt-oholic. I currently have about 80 characters here. Some are characters I've played, some are ones I hope to. Some are NPCs or villains for when I DM. But for my current characters i tend to have their 'main' that I play. And when I level up, or plam.to, I may make a couple copies to play with to see where I want them to go. Usually those get deleted once I update the main. Also may make copies if I'm trying to see how they will look leveling up. I consider this a.fun pastime. ☺
I, too use it for a lot of theorycrafting mixes to see what I can get from them. When I find one I like and want to really try, I set them to level 10 (we've had discussions about starting at 10 for some things) and if I opt to start earlier, I use the level 10 as a guide for how to get where I wanted. Also as others have said, some NPC's for when I DM, a couple NPC Sidekicks I made to assist the group in our "main" campaign I run.
Keeping a copy of each level? Yup, some OCD type behavior there for sure, lol. However, you are obviously subscribed, so it hurts nothing and nobody, go for it!

I don’t keep copies for every level but I do have copies as others do of NPCs for my world, characters I would like to play eventually and characters I am playing now. I generally make a copy and play with that first before leveling the original version. The other thing I do frequently is try building potential characters when theory crafting for others on here - it helps to see what happens when as they level and change.

Yikes. That sounds cumbersome.

That would have made early editions with all their level drains much easier.
