So I’m playing a new D&D session and one of my friends i play with came up with some really interesting little tricks that anyone can do in game for example:
One player has a really shiny cane, he looks in the reflection of it when he meets new people to see if he can see them, if he can’t he knows they’re a vampire (because there’s a lot of them in this campaign)
Another, is one player carries around a bag of dust and dirt, because there is this invisible creature following us, so when he’s around them he throws around this dust and sees what it lands on, finding out the location of said creature VidMate
I’m wondering if anyone knows of any other smart and useful tricks players can use in game? Keep in mind we’re starting again at low level.
I'd like to encourage players to remember that an Insight Check isn't just a lie detector. You can use it to try and get a sense of what a character you meet prioritizes... perhaps their regimented, stiff movement makes it clear they won't tolerate joking, or maybe you spot this seemingly nice person who is subtly examining any expensive object you or your allies are carrying, so you know they can probably be manipulated with money more easily. Maybe you might even come across a bandit, and if you can spot that they're nervous and hesitant you might be able to convince them to leave you alone without needing to roll for initiative.
It is verbatim the same thing. So far, all three times have been by someone with a different username, and a single post (this exact one) made on the same date as the join date. Seems like about every six months, they post it again.
So, the real question here isn't if you have any tips or tricks. The real question is why is this person doing this?
Huh. I thought the comment about the dust sounded vaguely familiar, but I know that's a relatively common tactic when attempting to suss out invisible creatures so I didn't give it much thought. That is really weird that this exact post is being made on a semi-regular basis. I could see why someone would do it if they were deliberately trolling and posting inaccurate or bizarre "facts" and just liked working people up, but this is just bizarre.
Exactly. It's not really trolling, and it is a fairly legitimate topic. I can't tell if its someone who's really happy about the mirror cane and wants credit for it, or its some kind of psychology experiment, or just a glitch in the matrix.

I'm sure I've seen this post before too.
Its from an account created today with 1 post, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bot or equivalent.
I can't imagine it's a bot, because who would program a bot just to post a single, fairly innocuous post to a forum once every 8 months or so? I think it makes more sense if it's maybe an experiment and they're just waiting to see how long it takes for people to catch on.

Does that mean I win!!!
Yeah, whether or not the person doing this had this as a goal, I'm gonna count this as a win.

You can scotch a hair on the edge of your window/door in any inn. When you get back to your room, you know someone broke in if that hair has been cut.
I always like to buy chalk so if I explore a new area I can mark the wall or write a message on the floor if we are trying to sneak up on someone.
