Hi! First post here! Don't know if this is the correct page of the forum but I'll try it.
That's the request: I want to build a Word Mage / onomancer (?), so all of his spells are based on words and names of the things, basically if he says that you are a turtle you become slow, or even turn you into a real turtle. The character is based on Ichibei Hyousube from Bleach (spoiler for those who are not on pair with the manga). I'm not strict to build him as he is, I just like the concept.
Another of his abilities is to summon a giant hand, this is simple, thanks Bigsby.
Now I have some issues with classes and levels. I didn't find any wizard similar to this concept, and his ephitet is "Monk who calls the real name" and he is considered dangerous for his "wisdom" so I was into cleric or even bard (maybe sorcerer), since cleric doesn't have access to all power word spells, even a multiclass could be good, but still need 17 levels for 9th level spells. For bigsby's hand I could even go with mark of sentinel human. Background maybe lorehold college. How would you build this concept?
There's an Onomancy subclass available via the Unearthed Arcana playtest documents. Just be sure to ask your DM about it beforehand, as it isn't officially part of the game.
Purely through flavor. Just about any spell in the game can be boiled down to a one-word definition, allusion or even just onomatopoeia (fireball could simply be, "Boom")
Bladesinger is the obvious choice for subclass if you want to lean a little more into the martial side of the character, and a "bladesong" (however you want to flavor the words being spoken to maintain the feature) would fit the concept nicely. School of Conjuration would work well if you want to lean more toward summoning creatures (calling on them by their true names to aid you, etc.)
Otherwise, just find a casting subclass - wizard, sorcerer, whatever - that has features you like, and reflavor the whole thing as being word-based magic
As for the "monk" part, you can cover that with his background (Acolyte, etc.), or just make it his personal style that he dresses like a monk

We usually don't use UA if are too old, so I wanted to use only official material. The mechanic of the UA is nice, it even gives some cleric spells (bless and bane wow!) which are perfectly in theme, it is just too bound to the "true name", what I have in mind is more wide, as the wiki states:
"Ichibē can give and change the name of targets who have been struck by the ink of Ichimonji by writing kanji on their body; doing so gives his target the properties and powers of the name granted. For example, by changing their name to Black Ant, his opponent would be as weak and powerless as an ant."
Or even:
"When used as a weapon, this brush does not cut flesh, but instead names; for example, if Ichibē lands a blow on his opponent's arm, he can reduce the physical capabilities of that arm by half if he cuts its name in half to Ar." (This is what he does with a blade, but a spell that gives disadvantage work similarly).

That's actually a really awesome idea. There isn't anything in 5e (to my knowledge) that emulates that, short of homebrew. I would recommend talking to your DM about reflavouring some mechanics.

I like the part about the onomatopoeia but I really wouldn't go for bladesinger (just cause I want to focus more on the caster part) or conjuration (cause he doesn't summon at all if not the hand). My thought was for a mark of sentinel human with a background that gives more spells. I'm stuck with classes, I need at least 17 levels in a full caster for 9th level, I was for cleric / bard, but bards can't prepare spells... Even a full arcana cleric couldn't change spells it gets from wizard at higher levels.

Thank, now I just have to find a good class or multiclass for it to work. ahahah
Bard, College of Creation, is where I would go for this. Vicious Mockery, Bardic Inspiration, Bestow Curse, Blindness/Deafness all seem like they can re-fluff to support the concept early on.

College of creation is mostly focused on create stuff, you suggested spells which are already in the bard spell list, so any bard could reflavour them. But this character doesn't create or influence objects.
Am I the only one that thinks Warlock could be a good fit here? Debuff spells like Curse or Hex could sub in for this kind of "naming" thing, Hexblade's Curse or Hound if Ill Omen could be applicable too. I feel like there's something there.

Warlock lose some of the "pure caster" type that I'm looking for. Higher lvl spells (6th to 9th) could be casted only once every long rest, if you have many short rests could be good too for spells under 5th lvl, but you could only cast four 5th lvl spells (even upcasted). Hound of Ill Omen is a shadow sorcerer feature, so hexblade can't use it. Hexblade's curse has effect only on attacks made by the warlock, so lose some of the wide effect and course/hex are spells, so if even another caster could use both. For a moment I was thinking about go 1 lvl in hexblade just to capitalize charisma, but it really goes off topic. And I don't want to always use hexblade ahahahahah.

Oh yeah I didn't mean to imply that you could use both Hound and Hex Curse, just listing options. Though what the Warlock lacks in spell slot availability, I feel it makes up in eldritch invocations, boons, and the sheer amount of cool concentration spells where you only need to cast one spell at the top of a combat.
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

But yeah those are fair reasons.
Yes, warlocks are very versatile with invocations, but I lose some of the spell flexibility I want.
Bards use a lot of verbal style stuff, command, vicious mockery, suggestion, bardic inspiration etc.
Maybe multi class in wizard and get a dictionary
Yes, bards could work great, even with the ability to steal spells from other classes, why do you suggest college of secrets (I think you mean whispers)? It has many assassination vibes. I could multiclass too, but the only thing I can do with both classes is go 17/3 or 18/9 cause I need 9th level spells (power word kill). Could be an enchantment wizard, but I don't need bard if I go enchantment, maybe other classes could work better. What do you think?
