You can change which masteries you use on a long rest, so you can (if you have the weapons) play around with them to see which ones fit your style best.
I am really liking the Topple mastery. I am a level 5 Battle Master with Trip Attack and I can use a Battle Axe with the Topple Mastery and Trip Attack to force an enemy to make two saving throws on one attack. Combine that with Shield Master, and you'd have three opportunities to knock an enemy prone.
We played Saturday night and I knocked a Fiend Cultist prone and it turned the entire tide of the fight.
Mathematically Graze is the best weapon mastery for single-target damage. A good choice would be to mostly use something with Graze and switch weapons should you be in a position to actually use Cleave.
Thanks. Yeah Graze seems like the safe choice, as it guarantees at least some damage. You’re always targeting one enemy, so this is always in play. It seems like insurance.
Cleave on the other hand is a nice free extra full attack. The question is reach. Since this build has better reach from 1) using Polearm and 2) +10 reach from World Tree, should be more opportunities to use Cleave? (Even more if I use Bugbear).

Favorites of the new 2024 weapon masteries?
In particular, I’m considering Graze or Cleave for a World Tree Barb, which can Push or Topple at level 10. Thx!

I like Cleave, Graze and Nick depending of builds.
