So I've been thinkin' that if the feat great weapon master works with ALL heavy two handed weapons, then would using a musket or longbow be an ok idea? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm still going to be rocking a greats-word and other similar weapons, but I think it would be pretty cool if I could use eldritch knights weapon bond ability to call of a bonded great sword and the whip out a gun to surprise their enemies. (edit: while strength will still be my primary ability score, I could also use true strike, as that works with both ranged AND melee weapons. For most of my adventuring career I'll have 16 int, so +3 should still be decent, yeah? Either way, that should be fun!)
The other thing I wanted to ask regards heavy armor master. The damage reduction for piercing, slashing, and bludgeoning is reduced REGARDLESS of whether or not the attack is magical, yes? If so, it makes me want to take it for my fighter!
also this is last second addition to the thread but the telekinesis feat for EK, yay or nay?
You can summon your bounded weapon as a Bonus Action and attack with a different weapon as an action, provided it isn't Two Handed because Two-Handed weapon requires two hands when you attack with it. Meaning if you wield a Musket or Longbow and summon a Greatsword in your hand, you can't attack with either weapon.
Not all of Great Weapon Master feat works with with Longbows, the Hew feature only works with Melee weapon.
Yes, the new heavy armor master works even if the damage is magical. And of course, it scales with pb. It’s a big upgrade from ‘14.
And telekinetic could be nice on an ek. Most anyone can get used from mage hand, and a little battlefield control from moving folks around. Both allies and enemies, is good for most anyone.

it works for all those damage types, regardless of how it was administered (ie weapon or spell attack, or a proc off a weapon)

Telekinesis feat is great on any type of caster ( which EK is a 1/3 caster anyway). The free mage hand and the BA push feature (is great for emergency, if you need to get out of trouble) move the monster (hopefully fails str check- allows you a free movement wo Op attack).

Heavy Armor Master's damage reduction effect works on both magical and non-magical damage of those types, but it does have to be from an attack. That includes the vast majority of damage sources of those types, but it wouldn't for example reduce the slashing damage dealt by Cloud of Daggers, since that isn't an attack.
Alright. Thanks guys! I appreciate the tips and information. Im thinking if I reach higher levels, I'll take boon of spell recall and telekinesis. Although I'll be giving up 20 in constitution, and only have 18. But 18 should be enough right?
Sure you can reduce the damage from spells that cause that type of damage, but I think there might be better options.
True Strike works with any weapon you're proficient with, including both melee and ranged weapons.
The Attack/Save says Melee.
That "Attack/Save" thing at the top of the page is part of the metadata that D&D Beyond put on their compendium page for the spell, not part of the actual spell description. The actual spell description in the Player's Handbook does not include anything like that and does not restrict what type of weapons can be used, other than requiring proficiency.
