Well for one, Rogues cant normally learn true strike and for two you can use the optional bonus action Steady Aim to give yourself advantage on your next attack at the cost of your movement.
Strictly better and free true strike. You could also just have an ally go stand next to your target to get the extra damage.

I like True Strike with a purely save or suck spell that you reaaaaaally want to work. I’d say Contagion might be the one spell I’d use this one for.
True strike does nothing to saves though. Contagion doesn't benefit.
Contagion isn’t a save vs spelL to inflict the initial effect - the poison happens automatically on a hit, that’s what I meant. Obviously maybe Mind Sliver would be a better cantrip on latter rounds for this one.

I only read as far as it being listed as a save spell. Sure enough the description is clearly an attack with a save secondary effect. Spell is mislabeled...

It’s one of the few that does this “primary” hit and then “secondary” save. Ice Knife is also a weird one for that, showing a ranged attack, but also a save. Confusing for sure 🙂
True Strike should be made to be a Bonus Action cast time imo.
I do really think this would fix it for the most part.
I know as a greatsword welding fighter I might pick it up as an option then to always get ADV on my first strike (after the first round of combat of course)

Change target to self, action to bonus action, and make it just have advantage on first attack next turn against any target.
Fixed. It can even keep concentration at that point.

Same here. But the way if currently is, it is so hard to use it, and when you finally do, it just comes out as being "okay".

If you could cast it as a bonus action, then every Fighter who's not a Samurai would just pick it up with Magic Initiate and spend every turn casting it and attacking. Seems really boring to me.
Frankly the advantage/disadvantage system negates the use of the spell. It should do something else. Make you automatically hit, or give you advantage when you would otherwise have disadvantage, which would reflect the way the old True Strike bypassed concealment (such as invisibility or Blur).
A good point. Short of using True Strike from a spellwrought tattoo or spell-storing ring, using True Strike with Bigby's Hand or Mordinkanen's Sword wouldn't work. And storing True Strike to use later would likely be a waste of the spell storing for a caster, with the possible exception of an Arcane Trickster.
This discussion has convinced me that True Strike is nearly useless as a cantrip. But if you could use it in an item so that you didn't have to concentrate and it wasn't limited to a caster, True Strike might have some utility. Monocle or Gun Sight of True Strike?
True strike is the spell that all anime characters cast when they're going through a mental monologue as they are flying through the air to punch someone for two whole minutes.
A rogue can use it to negate disadvantage, potentially setting up a Sneak Attack on the following turn, and still move; something which Steady Aim from Tasha's doesn't allow.
Sorcerers can also use it with Metamagic: Subtle Spell to cast it without being detected.

True Strike is useful if you are Bard the Bowman facing Smaug and you only have one black arrow.
And Smaug is polite enough to get within 30 feet of you without trying to turn you into hamburger.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Arrgg, I thought it was a "target self" spell. Sheesh, the spell is even worse than I thought.

You could line up Bigby’s hand or Mordinkanen’s Sword. Both use spell attack rolls.
Unfortunately, they're also both Concentration spells, so they can't be used in conjunction with True Strike.

That's because the anime version of the spell has a two minute casting time and the verbal component requires a huge speech.
