Hi I'm gonna be playing a revised ranger with the monster slayer archetype in a campaign soon, and while my dm is fine with it, i was curious if anybody here played that combination and knew if it worked well together especially cause I know the revised ranger didn't have monster slayer in mind.
Hi there. I really don't see why it would not work, so you could give it a try... The features of UA-RR that a few people find OP are not really overlapping with the Monster Slayer in my opinion. If your DM is okay with it, I would go for it. For what it's worth, I have worked for a long time with a few folks to arrive at this hybridised version of the core class, which ports in the best parts of UA-RR and the alternate class features proposed by Mike Mearls in November last year, with a bit of home brew. Link below. You will see that I propose to use a mechanic based on the Paladin's smite ability, which gives the ranger another way to use spell slots and allows for a more 'martial' manifestation of the class. Not directly related to your Monster Slayer query, but you might find it interesting all the same. External Link: https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-Lid95yK6stEottqrbJL
