Nope, this is intended. Samurai likewise has a limited use on long rest ability.
It's worth keeping in mind that the Cavalier gets three features at 3rd level; the bonus proficiency is okay but for a sub-class intended to be used with a mount Born to the Saddle is quite a significant feature.
Unwavering Mark is also a fairly tactical ability; you mostly want to use it when an ally is in danger, as not only does the mark seek to force an enemy to attack you instead, it means they'll be at disadvantage if they try to make an opportunity attack against your ally if they move away (no need for them to disengage), and if they harm the ally, it gives you a bonus attack with advantage. While the long rest makes it a bit tricky to manage, how many uses you have is partly up to you as it's tied to your Strength (prioritise STR increases and you'll get more uses sooner).
Warding Manoeuvre at 7th then comes in and kind of stacks on top of Unwavering Mark; it has its own uses per long rest (this time tied to CON) and while you can potentially spend both at the same time, in reality you'll probably only use one or the other, so you're getting more total uses between the two features, and it's a good one; make an ally less likely to be hit at all, and give them resistance if they get hit anyway.
When I played a Cavalier a while ago I expected the long rest reset to be tougher than it was, though it does take some getting used to, and I ended up having a lot of fun with it. Battle Master may be more accessible, especially with the increased overlap thanks to new manoeuvres like Bait and Switch, but Cavalier is still fun IMO.

Why does the Cavalier regain their abilities on a long rest? Most other fighters get them back on a short rest? Is this a typo?
