You can add Great weapon fighting style to Two-handed but, according to several sites, it only adds 1.33 damage. I think that's average over time. You can take the Great Weapon Master feat and do -5 to hit +10 to damage. Obviously. if you hit, there will be massive damage.
I took the Dual wielding feat, so I used 2d8. Keep in mind that Levels 1-3 are only 2d6.
Pole Arm Master is difficult. I am using a Quarterstaff. You can use a spear. I then took Dueling fighting style which adds +2 to damage to each attack. You can opt for a two-handed reach weapon which does 1d10 damage, but dueling would not be an option. You will get a chance for an opportunity attack, as well. You can carry a shield. Keep in mind that levels 1-3 are only 1d6. I would ask your DM if you can change fighting styles to dueling at level 4. I went with defense and a two-handed Maul at first.
As you can see, Polearm Master does a bit more damage on the low end without much sacrifice at the high end. I think PAM has the greatest chance for the most damage without the GWM feat conundrum.

We are all in danger!
I added a few things to Polearm master to be fair. I also fixed a couple math errors. I hope...
