I'm looking to build a samurai out of either a genasi (currently thinking earth) and a warforged homebrew. Anybody got advice as to what I should focus on statwise?
I don't know if this is really advice but it's just something that I happened notice when levelinglmy character. I took the resilient feat and was torn between dex or wisdom. I couldn't quite remember with the level 7 sub did so i checked and remembered its gave you prof in Wis save. It was at that moment that I realized is if i got Dex saves from resilient, by lvl 7 I would have prof in the most common saveing throws. That kinda changed how I looked at how I was going to continue with him going forward.
That what i am doing with mine. The cool thing about this sub class i feel is its flexibility. Its key ability is super simple and useful in giveing you advantage that works with preaty much any build. Then you get wis saves witch is never a bad thing with just how many spells use Wisdom saves.
Kinda depends, but I'd agree on bumppin wisdom after your combat stats. You get too many cool benefits from having a decent Wis to not take advantage of that. I suppose if you really wanted to play up the courtier you could try for Charisma, but it would be redundant given the samurai's abilities.
you could multi class into a kensei monk as well to put your wisdom to good use.
This is a nice concept, and one I had thought about for my own Kensei (multiclassing Fighter-Samurai), but unfortunately the most interesting feature the Samurai gives (Fighting Spirit) is a Bonus Action, conflicting heavily with the most interesting bits of being a Monk.
You'd still get WIS bonus to unarmored defense, but that does not really seems worth it when compared to a steady progression in Samurai.
Probably the most interesting combination could be multiclassing with Paladin (Vengeance or Conquest, I'd say), as the divine smite looks like it could have a very good synergy with Fighting Spirit (just a random thought I had just now, didn't really look into it much)
I'd go with Str/Dex depending on what style of fighting you want to do, secondary to that of course CON. As another poster mentioned you'll get proficiency with Wis saves later on any way so no real need to bump that stat IMO. Resilient Dex is a great feat to take to help further bolster your saves, giving you proficiency in 4 of 6 saves pretty early on.
Probably best to go for a Dex based fighter and then go con after that. You can actually get a 19 for AC if you roll stats and use defense as your fighting style (iveI done that with a tabaxi fighter I'm running now) and you'll have someone very hard to hit, tough, and who hits well (since dex goes offensively and defensively). If you go for the earth genasi, you'd also get pass without a trace which could pair with that dex and make you a very hard to find fighter.

So I should invest in wisdom/dex?

Born in Italy, moved a bunch, living in Spain, my heart always belonged to Roleplaying Games

For rerefence, I'm looking for a fast moving striker, similar to a monk
