I've been recently playing the gunslinger subclass for the past few months until Tasha drops in DDB and gives a new feat "Gunner" which i'm very excited since I like playing classes that more incline the uses of technology which artificer been release at the same time.
My question is how dose "Gunner" works with gunslinger? is it same to Crossbow Fighter that uses the "Crossbow Expert" and is their damage out is greater or lesser then a crossbow fighter using the best range weapon gunslinger- [Tooltip Not Found] | crossbow fighter-crossbow, heavy and ignoring the gunslinger's missfire score. calculating the average score of both weapons.
I thought of respecting my gunslinger into Fighter 17(Gunslinger)/Rogue 3(ignore subclass for now) since rogue can have steady aim as their feature and i know i miss some ASI/Feats,Class features but is it worth to sacrifice a class feature for the steady aim feature?
the only real issue at all is that Matt's guns don't use the loading property. So by RAW that part of the feat wouldn't work and the firearms skill is redundant. Otherwise it actually works at least as well for his weapons as Crossbow Expert does for Crossbow users.
Though I'm of the opinion that you might consider talking to your dm to sort out a solution that works for you both on the loading vs. reloading issue in how the feat might work with the difference in property. But Matt did work to balance Bad News for 2 turns of basic attacks when he was doing the damage from what I've seen.
Ahhh i tend to get confuse with the Reload and Loading action as they kinda of function in the same way the way how i read it and your right about it. and thanks a lot i will contact my DM about this problem since Matt's gun have it's own rules and the DMG has it rules too.
Reload is a characteristic that is on some other of the "modern" guns offered. But they tend to be capable of multiple shots so can attack multiple times a turn if they have enough ammunition anyway. And it's not lumped in with loading. So it's a bit individual. So it's a discussion to have. You may decide that because of the power of the weapon and the way that Matt wisely worked that particular property into how his subclass works that you don't need a change and your ok with that one part not working on something like Bad News. you might jointly choose to replace it in some way for your particular table... or you may decide it works differently with things with reload like Bad News and your ok with the potential up in power it gives.
So as long as you and your DM agree on how you handle it you should be good. But even without that it's a fairly solid Feat for the gunslinger and arguably better than crossbow expert which you were only using part of anyway if you used guns.
I've really been thinking " how could matt's guns coexist in harmony with DMG guns? " and they really just can't really, gunslinger is a beautifully done subclass and matt's firearms are actually BALANCED, but I really think they're just two different beasts entirely.
