After Listening to episode 118 of the Dungeons and Dragons Lorecast, which was one of their patron round table episodes in which they all drafted a fantasy D&D party, I thought it would be fun to create a thread about it and see what y'all come up with. The members of your party can come from any form of media, or from real life. Try to limit it to 5-6 members, and tell me what race and class they would have.
Kaladin (Stormlight Archive - Brandon Sanderson). Human Oath of the Windrunners Paladin, uses Great Spear (greatsword that deals piercing), his oath grants him 3-dimensional combat.
Rayla (The Dragon Prince - Netflix). Wood Elf Scout Rogue, uses dual shortswords, good scout, excellent swordplay and mobility, and loyal guardian.
Alinua (Aurora - OSP). High Elf Nature Cleric, exceptional healer with plant and animal-related abilities.
Wallace (Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade - Intelligent Systems). Human Champion Fighter, heavy hitter and very good tank.
Zuko (Avatar: the Last Airbender - Nickelodeon). Human Pyromancer Sorcerer/Fighter/Rogue, impeccable damage dealer, decent swordsman, good sneakiness factor.
Aragorn (The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien). Variant Aasimar Ranger, great swordsman, shows skill in tracking, foraging, etc., can talk to animals.
Link (The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time version). High Elf Valor Bard, with 3 levels of Warlock (Archey) or a helping DM to have a Sprite Na'vi as a familiar. Sword and board frontliner, maybe a Level 1 dip into Artificer or some proficiencies to handle all his tinkered shenanigans (bombs, grappling hook, etc.).
Gandalf (Lord of the Rings). Aasimar Celestial Warlock. Given LotR's magic system, Gandalf would definitely not be a D&D Wizard.
Illidan Stormrage (Warcraft). High Elf Fiend Warlock. Dual-wielding Pact of the Blade. Skirmish warrior and mandatory edgy character.
Moreina "Blood Raven" (Diablo). Human (or Reborn) Scout Rogue. For all exploration and trap-disarming needs.
Conan (Conan). Human Barbarian. Berserker? Probably some levels of Rogue and possibly Fighter.
Couldn't decide between Alucard (Castlevania), Sombra (Overwatch), Kerrigan (Starcraft) Faris (FFV) and Sephiroth (FFVII) for 6th, ended up stopping at 5. :)
Talion (Shadow of Mordor) Human, Monster Hunter Ranger / Undead Warlock with Celebrimbor (the Elven spirit inhabiting his body) being his patron and giving him his powers
Ooh this is fun, I'll try to come up with some that others haven't already drafted:
Mordin Solus (Mass Effect series) - Lizardfolk Artificer Alchemist. He's got all the cold cunning and smarts that a group would ever need. With his infusions, picking locks, and general magic tech, he'd be a great fit.
Master Namer Elodin (Kingkiller Chronicles, Patrick Rothfuss) - Human; dude's gotta be a Sorcerer with his wacky innate 'magic', and given the state of magic in that series, probably Wild Magic. Maybe a few levels of Bard as well? He names things and they change form under his command. Mechanically he might be closer to Wizard, but thematically I'm sticking to my guns. Good stuff.
No one else said it? Okay, I'll take this one 100%:
Captain America/Steve Rogers - Human Paladin, Oath of Devotion. Do I really need to describe this guy? He's the Good Guy. Might be a bit blinded by his lofty ideals but damn if it ain't inspiring.
Augustus Cole/Cole Train - Human (I gotta think of some nonhumans) Barbarian, is there a sports subclass? Probably Berserker. I wanna throw in a level of Bard because the guy's just so charismatic, but I'm not sure if that's appropriate. He's a front line tank, a force to be reckoned with, and he'll look damn good the whole time.
HK-47 (KoTOR, The Old Republic, Star Wars in general I think) - the quintessential droid. Warforged Rogue, Assassin subclass. He'll kill you in your sleep. He'll take all your stuff and use it to kill someone else. Oh wait, are we talking about enemies or allies? Eh, he'll suck it up and help out some of these meat bags. Somebody's gotta keep the team alive. Just now realized the dynamic of him + Captain America would probably be terrible but this is my dream team so I'm sticking with it.
Nurse Joy (Pokemon) - Human Life Cleric. She keeps you on your feet, happy and healthy, with a smile the entire time. Also if she somehow dies, I can guarantee she has a cousin ready to step in the next town over.
This sounds amazing! Here's my super video game team of 5!
Mario Jumpman Mario (Super Mario Series): Lightfoot Halfling Draconic Sorcerer with 3 levels in Battle Master Fighter, and another 2 in Moon Druid. Wields a warhammer and fire spells.
Luigi Mario (Luigi's Mansion): Ghostwise Halfling Blood Hunter with 4 levels in Artillerist Artificer. I couldn't have one brother without the other, and Luigi seems like a cool character!
Papyrus (Undertale): Skeleton Champion Fighter with 3 levels in Glamour Bard. Just seems like the most fun character to RP, and we needed a tank on the team.
The Guide (Terraria): Human Monster Hunter Ranger with 2 levels in Fiend Warlock. I wanted to incorporate some lesser-known characters on the team.
Isabelle (Animal Crossing): Lightfoot Halfling Glamour Bard with 3 levels in Artillerist Artificer. I wasn't sure who the last character would be, but I think I made the right choice.

Fun! I don't usually comment in the forums but I've taken the time to come up with a curated list of favorites.
Kharazim (Diablo)
Human Way of Healing Monk. Perhaps a strange first-pick, being that I'm only familiar with his Heroes of the Storm variant. I am a big fan of his mobility and versatility, aligning really well with the D&D support role while being able to traverse the battlefield with ease. You can count on him exacting divine justice as well as dispensing monastic wisdom when the times call for it. "I have trained all my life to serve the Thousand and One gods. With their insight, I walk the dagger's edge between peace and war. By their grace, I can heal the wounded. When they wish to strike, I am their iron fist. I am Kharazim, Monk of Ivgorod. The gods speak through me. And they want a word with you!"
Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler(Marvel's X-Men)
Tiefling Way of Shadow Monk. "But Lucky, you already have a Monk. Are you sure you want two?" Yes. Yes I am. An old favorite of mine since I was a young lad, I adored his ability to instantaneously appear where he needed to be, reappearing 10ft away to release a flurry of strikes with limb and tail or grappling cowards. Throw in Fey Touched for the extra teleportation without requiring darkness and we're really thinking with(out) shadows. Great for ambushes, infiltration, and general sneakery. This young man is loveable, cuddleable, and has a strong sense of what is right, even as he struggles with his public and personal identity. "Every so often, liebchen, since I look like a demon... I have this irresistible urge to play the part."
Millhouse Manastorm(World of Warcraft)
Gnome Evocation Wizard. The quintessential mage, blasting away at enemies with nary a second thought. Sure, he's a dubious sort that acted as an antagonist in several encounters, but reality reveals he's just quick to provocation and easily offended. Short legs, short temper and all that. Requires a full party of folk to take him down on every occasion and is a named champion of Archmage Khadgar. Sure, he isn't the most stable or even the most powerful mage of his own universe, but he is a consistent and reliable threat since his introduction who will never let you forget his name. A big fan of charging his fireball, so look out horde. "I'm gonna light you up, sweet cheeks!"
The Red Prince(Divinity: Original Sin 2)
Lizardfolk Oath of Glory Paladin/Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer. If you're at all familiar with the game, you either love him or hate him. I happen to be the former. The Red Prince is, to me, someone that you will never want to associate with nor should aspire to be, yet you find their whole force of personality to be awfully alluring. Not one lacking in confidence or skill, he will lead the group through perilous encounters with only glory in mind and believes that his strength will win out in the end. At first, you're just the help, but over time he will open up and be more loyal than any companion. Emboldened by his beliefs, he is a powerful frontliner and controller. "Famed, of course, for my unique red skin and unparalleled skills as a general of the House of War, I, the Red Prince, was raised within the vast palaces of the fabled Forbidden City. I was destined to become the next emperor, but my ambitions suffered a bit of a setback when I fell from grace for cavorting with demons. Now I'm exiled and hunted by assassins, but I assure you: I remain undaunted - and as determined as ever to claim my rightful throne!"
Clinton Francis "Clint" Barton aka Hawkeye (Marvel)
Human Battle Master Fighter. In a world inundated with supernatural or extraterrestrial monsters, magic, and literal gods, this actually feels like a perfect fit. A person we can easily empathize with because he has no room for error lest he seems "regular". If he fails, then he is just another person. So he pushes and excels, attempting to do whatever he can to be a hero to the common people, and a symbol of humanity. While humans tend to not have any outstanding qualities with the exception of the rare magic, it's possible to show the determination and compassion shared in every community, while loosing trick arrows to boot. This is not in any way an indictment to the Fighter class, in fact they're in my top 3 as I adore them so much. I just genuinely believe that they are the best "pure" archers in D&D 5e that give you a little variety mechanically, and of course a perfect fit to the character. "I Knew I Should Have Stretched."
Black Star(Soul Eater)
Variant Human Swashbuckler Rogue. Now, see, I had a tough time with the subclass for Black Star. Assassin was the most obvious choice at first glance because he's literally described as such. Problem with Black Star, though, is that he doesn't have any social wit or much use for disguises. In fact, he tends to take the spotlight where he can, proclaiming his name before he takes on an enemy so they know who defeated them. Where he fails as a ninja in that regard, he is superior in every martial endeavor. Speed, precision, and what some may call panache, makes for an elusive and frustrating enemy. I specified Variant this time around so that he may pick up the Aberrant Dragonmark feat, born with his namesake birthmark/tattoo and familial bloodline that will ultimately power him up in the long run. If the party finds themselves on the course of confronting a god, you can bet Black Star will be up front. "Compared to a man as big as me you realize how small you are, don't you? I understand how you feel. Even I can be frightened by my own greatness. So I find it difficult to stand in front of mirrors."
The Bench
Kate Bishop(Marvel) - A replacement for Clint Barton, figuratively and metaphorically. I'm not familiar with her, but I'm enthusiastic to see more of her in the MCU. I'm sure her next appearance will be enough push to make it happen.
Xenomorph(Alien Franchise) - I know, I know. It's a monster. If they ever showed any signs of cooperation or anything more than hive-mind or sapience, then they would have made the list. Unfortunately, they're only fodder or spooky villains. Perhaps they can act as a party pet/sidekick, in which case they'd be a Specialist (or Assassin Rogue, to be specific). Good at hiding, spooking, and one-shot kills.
Lohse(Divinity: Original Sin 2) - I did my best to keep characters of the same franchise out from my list (I don't count X-Men and Marvel as the same still). Lohse was a super close second to The Red Prince, due to her likely having a fun multiclass of Warlock/Bard and much-needed levity. Red Prince still wins out in my heart, and so he deserves a place in my team.
Saul Buchanan (Wasteland 3) - My first thought with this guy is Battle Master Fighter, as he is a leader of a whole nation and a real champion in battle. However, I'll end up with Barbarian since he has been taming a temper since childhood and using his violence as a means to a (more or less) noble end. Maybe let's give him Land Vehicles proficiency.
I tried to incorporate something from all my favorite things. There is no conceivable reality in which this team functions coherently, but I would love to see it.
Duncan Idaho (Dune): Human Battle Master Fighter, uses a longsword, remarkable swordsman and master strategist. Natural Leader.
Laszlo Cravensworth (What We Do in the Shadows): Vampire Whispers Bard, very charismatic, adept at magic (specifically charming and seducing people), composer and musician.
Northernlion (Real Life): Human Conjuration Wizard, fantastic debater, expert at summoning animals, encyclopedic knowledge of famous people and individuals, pogger.
Aziraphale (Good Omens): Angel Peace Cleric, very polite in a way that leads everyone to assume he is English, lots of books, used to have a flaming sword but gave it away.
Shawn Spencer (Psych): Human Swashbuckler Rogue, attention lover, incredible observation skills, very good liar.
Edit: had to edit to add Shawn Spencer, thick tufted boy genius, skating through life on blades of snarky eloquence.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Mort- (from Mort by Terry Pratchett) Is a human but might be better to make as a Shadarkai, Hexblade Warlock or maybe Phantom Rogue
Moist Von Lipwig-(Also by Terry Pratchett) Human, college of glamour bard
Hellboy- Tiefling (but it might work better mechanically to make him a half-orc), Gunslinger Hellboy uses guns because they are the weapons most available but he is terrible with them. Because of his indestructibility and habit of angrily beating monsters to death with his fists, he would be a barbarian.
The Florid Sword- (From the Wingfeather Saga) Human, Either a fighter or a rogue
Henry York Macabee- (From 100 Cupboards) Human, Circle of the Wildfire druid
Moonknight- Human (Maybe Reborn?), Way of Long Death Monk

Samus Aran (Metroid): Human with 0.1% Aaracokra (Chozo) DNA: Monster Slayer Ranger with 2-3 levels in Armorer Artificer
